Any other licensed nail techs watching this like “😐” PSA: dip powder is the exact same as regular powder and monomer acrylic, you just apply it in a different way. Be careful, it can be unsanitary and extremely difficult to remove.
Dip is actually very easy to remove and faster then gel and acrylic. I just started dip, it took 10 minutes of acetone soak and they were completely dissolved off of my nail.
If you want to grow out your nails just leave them alone. Filing your natural nail bed ruins the nail which makes makes it weak. It’s ruins your nails and makes them super thin

Dip looks best on natural nails than as extensions! Save extensions for acrylic and builder gel and polygel! Before a dip service or any service for that matter, the hauk tech is to assess the hands for any maladies such as fungus or infection and cuts, scrapes, bruises, warts, or the presence of blood BEFORE doing any service per most State Boards of Cosmetology! If there are no problems assessed then the nail tech can proceed to have the client wash and thoroughly sanitize their hands with warm soapy water and hand sanitizer! Do your own. It's really not that hard. You can just stick with the gel polishes or get further into it with the thicker builder gel for longer lengths. Either way- you can learn and eventually it may be a hobby you set aside to do with your daughter as she gets older.
Step 1 - never let anyone drill your natural nail. Not even if they tell you it’s gentle ... by their definition only, this is not good for your nails at all. They are officially ruined at that point. This whole video in general didn’t show good technique and I’ve had lots of dip and gel.
Never had my nails e-filed beforehand. It’s always after the extension is added. I had dip powder recently but they didn’t dip my fingers in the powder. I actually prefer powder after that because I only had to put my hands under UV for a few times unlike with biogel.
these are so pretty! Idk why there are so many people hating...a sanding band efile is perfectly safe to use to get shine off natural nails, it isnt even strong enough to nick skin if tested on it
Still growing mine out after trying these two months ago :( so thin and painful, lady had no idea what she was doing filed the hell out of my real nails left underneath, got acrylics removed the next day
Be sure to use cuticle oil daily, it won't really cure the thinning of the nails right away but it'll keep them hydrated and the new nails will be healthier.
i used to bit my nails sooo much it was crazy. but i got into doing my own nails and i haven’t bit them in over a year. now, the thought of biting them is so gross
IT IS. What she just did to that client can damage her natural nails for many years to come. Just look at the end result...It was awful in every way, either she fell asleep during nail classes OR shes not qualified. Did she mention at the beginning she worked in the Corporate World? I dont think those nails would have been appropriate if so
I don’t want that file used on my nail, since it thins out my nail. I was hoping that this wasn’t involved in dip powders, but I was wrong. They all damage your nails.
If any tech goes near your natural nail with an e-file or Dremel you should run away. It can damage the nail layers. First thing they taught us in school.
Any nail file can damage the natural nail! An efile doesnt apply pressure and it doesn't choose its own grit between fine, medium, and coarse! That being said, an efile helps you get through a procedure like prep quicker because it spins faster than you/I can file. An educated nail tech should know to use nothing less than a 180/medium grit diamond pepper bit or sanding band on the natural nail and definitely should know NOT to take more than just the natural shine off the nail which doesn't take more than a few light passes of the 180 grit or higher sanding band/diamond pepper bit!
@@crux6331 actually this is what I was taught in esthics school the Ontario Health Board doesn't allow them, and we were taught not to use them (I am going into finals for my license now).
Samantha Timms interesting. I guess it differs on the region. I wouldn’t go far though to tell clients that e files are bad. They can be beneficial with the right training and right tools used.
I’ve used dip powder extensions but they really don’t last long. Plus when you want to fix it you’ve got to do it all over again but yeah it’s softer on the nails and somehow protect them so they can grow.
I tried dip for a few months and my natural nails started to curl. She had to cut them down and apply tips. This was never an issue when I had gel done on my natural nails. Going back to gel.
Dip powder is the best. It doesn't ruin your nails like acrylic tips / gel. My natural nails have gotten so long using dip powder and I haven't gotten any chips/breakage! They also don't lift like acrylic/gel nails.
First thing they teach in nail school is that acrylic is in everything (polish, gel, liquid and powder). It is why the product hardens. Also dipping your finger into the jar is unhygienic and can cause bacterial infections like pseudomonas (greenies) in the nail plate. If they are gonna do the “dip” method always have them pour the product over the nail and excess product thrown out. If they don’t, you are probably in a non standard salon. Also arbor bands should NEVER be used on the natural nail.
I'm a nail novice so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but why is there always that hump in fake nails? I want to try something like this but I don't want the hump.
NOOOOO dip powder is the worst. It is probably one of the worst things to get done at the nail salon because the nail is being dipped into the container containing the powder and will only end up becoming contaminated for any future uses. If people use the powder after it has been contaminated, it can lead future clients to have infections
Sis... I get this done maybe twice a year or for special occasions, this exact nail method (SNS), my nails are horrible and thin and my beds are very bad but my nails always end up way better than this...
I disagree. I got dip back in March and it ruined my nails. It pushed back my hyponchium and now dirt gets under my nails( I work in a garden a lot) but it’s hard to clean them because it’s so far back now. They’re not perfect but are JUST now starting to get better. I’ve never had this problem before trying dip. It’s probably the specific shop I went to also. She used the drill on my nail so much that it hurt. So, I could be wrong but just be cautious.
Ok I’m sorry but I literally got anxiety when they dipped her nail into the powder like sprinkle the powder separately. My mom got dip nails and they dipped her nail into the powder and she got this super bad nail infection. Just use acrylic it has the same affect and it’s more hygienic
As someone who gets dip powder nail extensions every month (pre pandemic of course) I have never seen such horrendous nails. They're so thick and bumpy:(
I’m just curious why some of her nails (after it was done) as a bump? I’m new to all this, but I could really see a bump…especially on the ones with just silver polish…not the ones with crystals. Anyway, it looked nice, just didn’t like see the bump.

Do your own. It's really not that hard. You can just stick with the gel polishes or get further into it with the thicker builder gel for longer lengths. Either way- you can learn and eventually it may be a hobby you set aside to do with your daughter as she gets older.
Why wasn’t the powder filed/buffed before applying the top coat? I prefer a thinner nail and smoother.
Step 1 - never let anyone drill your natural nail. Not even if they tell you it’s gentle ... by their definition only, this is not good for your nails at all. They are officially ruined at that point. This whole video in general didn’t show good technique and I’ve had lots of dip and gel.
Yes i cringed so hard when she filed her natural nail's surface😭
I love dip. It helped my nails grow pretty long.
+ros_a_bear That's awesome!
How beautiful. I just got a dip powder manicure this week..
i used to bit my nails sooo much it was crazy. but i got into doing my own nails and i haven’t bit them in over a year. now, the thought of biting them is so gross
I really like them also matches her skin tone very nicely! ☺️
I’ve been led to believe e file on natural nail is no no...
IT IS. What she just did to that client can damage her natural nails for many years to come. Just look at the end result...It was awful in every way, either she fell asleep during nail classes OR shes not qualified. Did she mention at the beginning she worked in the Corporate World? I dont think those nails would have been appropriate if so
Life's Journey actually it isn’t if you use the right bit. Obviously you don’t use a coarse bit on a natural nail.
"My nail goals are to have nails long enough so that I don't need nail extensions." Same girl, same
I don’t want that file used on my nail, since it thins out my nail. I was hoping that this wasn’t involved in dip powders, but I was wrong. They all damage your nails.
You don't need to file the surface of the nail or use tips to use dip powder.
Before the video: nothing can change my mind on gel
After video: I’m still staying with gel after this I’m even more convinced
Lela Robinson thank you. So many people are terrified of the e file bc of uneducated technicians/clients
@@crux6331 I suppose so! I know even between provinces the rules are different here so who knows.🤷♀️
her before nails are my nail goals. I would have just gotten a regular manicure with nails like that.
Beautiful nails Ashley!
I could watch this all day. So mesmerizing ❤💅🏽
that lady looked really nice but there's no way she bites her nails
yaay R29 listened to our feedback and toned down the sound fx! 😄
The dipping part was oddly satisfying to watch
That was such a coarse grit sanding her natural nail down
First thing they teach in nail school is that acrylic is in everything (polish, gel, liquid and powder). It is why the product hardens. Also dipping your finger into the jar is unhygienic and can cause bacterial infections like pseudomonas (greenies) in the nail plate. If they are gonna do the “dip” method always have them pour the product over the nail
and excess product thrown out. If they don’t, you are probably in a non standard salon. Also arbor bands should NEVER be used on the natural nail.
Those nail clippers .....ahhhhh... 🙀🙀🙀 stOOp
It's just fake nails lol
Nah I mean her real nails they use the clippers on. Nice way to cause breakage 😥
the cuticles omg theee cuutiiicllesss brrrrrrrr
I smelled every prouduct in this video🙈😂😂
I'm a nail novice so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but why is there always that hump in fake nails? I want to try something like this but I don't want the hump.
This video is so therapeutic I love it! ❤️😍
Very pretty colors. ☺️
NOOOOO dip powder is the worst. It is probably one of the worst things to get done at the nail salon because the nail is being dipped into the container containing the powder and will only end up becoming contaminated for any future uses. If people use the powder after it has been contaminated, it can lead future clients to have infections
Is exposing nails directly under UV light safe enough?
It's not ultraviolet light...it's a blue colored light...the similarly kind dentists use to set dental fillings.
Sis... I get this done maybe twice a year or for special occasions, this exact nail method (SNS), my nails are horrible and thin and my beds are very bad but my nails always end up way better than this...
Why did she use the e-file on her natural nail bed 😰
Looks great!!! Wow.
Hey refinery 29 I was wondering if you could do an A aliyah transformation.thanks
Great video 💛💛💛
“It was painless” girl did you think it was gonna hurt tf?
I will try the dip powder nails
Damn bro you got the whole squad laughing with those nails🤣😂
So acrylics???
Nail techs are just doing whatever these days
Extremely relaxing, loved it
Its beautiful 😍
Wait is the dip powder thing like not clean since their just putting everyone’s nails in the powder.
I get mine done with dip powder no extension just o. My natural nail cause I am a nail bit and having if helps me stop biting
As someone who gets dip powder nail extensions every month (pre pandemic of course) I have never seen such horrendous nails. They're so thick and bumpy:(
Very wonderful idea! Great job with the nails!
i cringed sooo bad when she used the electric file on her natural nail bed....
did anyone see the burn /dark spots around the chrome middle finger
I’m just curious why some of her nails (after it was done) as a bump? I’m new to all this, but I could really see a bump…especially on the ones with just silver polish…not the ones with crystals. Anyway, it looked nice, just didn’t like see the bump.
I just started getting DIP nails, (SNS is the brand or type). It DOES feel like a procedure!! 💅🏼
