Here’s a tip ☝🏼 When doing your first layer go to your mid nail & down stroke with the brush, not all the way to the top by cuticle. Doing this will add a nice curve to the nail vs looking straight & flat on top :)
The apex method is amazing! But here's another tip: if the nail you're adding dip color already has an apex, just do two or three thin layers over the entire nail. Doing an apex over an apex doesn't come out so great lol I learned that the hard way. Sometimes I'll build my apex with clear first
I've been dipping for a yesr and a half but still found a couple helpfuls. One thing I found when I've hardened top coat brushes Is, they are removable from the cap. Amazon sells replaceable brushes in a bag. Buy not only that, the original brush can be soaked over night in acetone (I use a small jar with lid), wash with soap & water, let dry and it is reusable too.
I just take my brush that needs to be cleaned and change it with the one in the bottle of brush cleaner, when I need to change it again, it's ready to go!
You are awesome! I used to do my dip nails about three years ago myself and then I stopped doing them. I went last month and had them done at a salon for $55 and they came beautiful! Now it’s time to take them off I said wow this is going to be challenging. So I just saw your video and said wow I can do that myself again. I’ll just be careful about all these mistakes. I have all the stuff I had so I’m going to try on my own again thanks for all the tips.💜
This video is so helpful.. the product videos just shows a quick minute video and skips all these steps to make the products look so easy to use.. and then you wonder why you don’t get the same results
Planning to do my first dip today 🤞🏽 so I found your video very helpful. I just want to give a big shout out to that one finger that was sacrificed for our knowledge. Your sacrifice was not in vain 😂 thank you.
What I do with the top coat is generally do my dip through the activator in the evening, and wait until the next day to put top coat. I wash my hands in water only, no soap, dry them, and then do the top coats, waiting between coats. I've ruined bottles of top coat at the beginning by not waiting after the activator. This tip is also great for moms because it gives you a good stopping point if the kids need you!
I’ve been using dip powder for a month and couldn’t get my nails to turn out like I wanted them. These tips helped me achieve the perfect dip manicure! Thank you so much!

I just did my first dip today…I SO wish I found this first! My nails are so bumpy and basically a hot mess. Can’t wait to try again with these tips! I definitely need to buff my heart out.
Mine look like a hot mess as well and I just did them this afternoon. Definitely hope my next set look better. Thank you for the tip on flooding the cuticle! That’s exactly what happened to mine
This was SO helpful. For so long I struggled with dip because these brands advertise their kits being a complete set for a manicure. Not true at all and led to me quitting dipping so many times after being a hot mess. After doing my research and practicing so much I finally got good at it!
Thank you so much, Carole Annette!! I really appreciate the time you've taken to do this video. It's an active kindness. Been doing my nails for a little while now since COVID ( immuno compromised ). Was getting bored, so decided I would learn to do nails on my own, but only discovered dip kits last spring. II have had most of these problems, criticized myself severely, despite getting lots of compliments. I did not realize there were solutions which mostly require a little patience. I will be checking out your channel for more wonderful advice!

I know this was a long video but the information was extensive, really helpful for someone who’s never used dip nails. I mean priming your file who would have thought, the times I’ve hurt my skin with a new file. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Absolutely amazing video. The fact that you SHOWED what people are doing wrong first !!! And you were right. They were the most common mistakes lol thanks for the amazing tips
New subscriber here... I LOVE the "priming your files" tip! I've cut, or scraped my cuticles, too many times and I've never thought to file the edges! THANKS! 😃
My nail tech moved so I decided to dip. I didn't take the time Friday when I did them so I took the time today. I've watched many of your videos and they've been so helpful! My nails turned our much better!
I did my nails twice this month and now I understand why they came out so badly! LOL I cut my fingers twice from the nail files, cuticles were flooded and have bumpy bulky, warped nails. They don't look as bad as that sounds, but they aren't good still. I'll definitely be using these techniques to do better. Thank you so much!!
Fantastic advice thank you great tips. I have been doing my own manicure for three years, although I have to use a lamp to cure the product i use your advise is Brillant.
I've been using dip powder for 2 years now but still learned some things from your video. I have always used a soft brush to brush off excess powder and have contaminated several bottles of base because of the bottle brush picking up powder that was left on my nails. I am now switching to a toothbrush as you recommended!
When the bottles are contaminated do they go thick and gluggy? This is whats happened to my Revel Base Coat and Top Coat. The gel thinner isn't helping either :(
I did mine they look pretty darn good for the first time! No lumps, no filing. I’m so pleased. Mom had me do hers they turn out great too. I am not a professional for sure. Nailboo
Love this video! I’ve been doing acrylic nails since I was in my teens til my early 30s, and then glue on nails since then. Now want to try dip nails, and your video taught me a lot. Thanks bunches for all this good information. ❤
Wow I wish I saw this months ago I have lost so many brushes due to the activator and top coat mixing and could never figure out why that happened.. thank you so much for all these videos 😘
Thanks for this. I'm glad I watched before I started dipping. I think I'm going to get mine done professionally before I start doing them on my on. Too many mistakes to make and I want to watch her first.
This is my plan too. I've gotten it done once and I'll go once or twice more (this month and maybe the next) so I'll be ready. I also ordered a cheap kit (Kiss nails) with a light color powder so that even if I make a mistake, it won't be as noticable.
Huh! I didn't know that a new file could be bad for your skin/nails. I mean, well, now I do! Lol. Thank you so much! This showed and answered "problems" I didn't know we're problems or shouldn't be doing until I watched this! Wow! I'm so glad I watched this before doing my nails again.
The kit I got came with cuticle pusher, soft ish brush, files with different grits, as well as a heal oil for the end. It came with bond liquid to put on after you push cuticles and file/buff your nails and sanitise, to prevent oils affecting the bond. then the base for dips, the seal to activate, and the glow top coat. Only thing it didn't come with was a sanitizer of any sort to sanitise with.
I also use a cosmetic wedge to press the powder into the dip base after I've dipped. Not too much pressure but a bit of a firm pressure to help create more of a shape.
Thank you so much for this…. Have just bought a s******d of nail dip powders & all of the varnishes, am hoping I’ve not messed up!!! So much useful info, appreciated xx
Great tips! These have become so popular and we're all ready to quit paying a fortune for our nails! I'm about to do them again I will use your tips this time thank you!
Very nice video. I tried dipping several years ago, and accumulated lots of Revel an Sparkle &Co products. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of good knowledge, and damaged my nails. I became discouraged and switched to gel. Now, perhaps I should revisit my dips. Great information here. Thanks!
I just ordered my first dip powder set. I wish I would have done more research. I will definately be watching tutorials for beginners before I attempt this. Thanks for the info.
As a nail technician more than 25 years and being used this system since 2000 which it was when it started what was called dip in acrylics , the so called liquids is simply glue meaning with that that base coat and top Coat it’s simply glue on 2000 you had only the glue and the spray to dry that glue after the second dip sometimes third and you start first 3/4 of nail to dip because you want to create some Arch to the nail

Thank you 💕 ive been struggling with this is doesnt help that every brand is different, and the nail tutorials and 2 min and extremely basics ans they dont talk about the does and donts, thanks again
I just got mine and after watching how to apply. Now I only tried on 1 nail where I had gel previously. When I got to the activation stage, I admit I made the mistake of not waiting long enough and didn't buff enough. But when I added the top coat it burned. I think it was because my nail was already thin from having gel before. I think I'll wait for my nails to recover from a gel to try again. But this video was very helpful 👌
I found this very helpful. I'm just starting to try doing this at home as I am tired of paying so much money to get them done at a salon. I just ordered everything that I will need and after watching some more of your videos, I will start to practice :)
@@sashasaint-sulne518 I am slowing improving and figuring stuff out. I seem to have to best luck using the dipping power rather then poly gel. The real important thing is that your nails are prepped properly. I'm working on that bit LOL
I just made my first attempt with dipping and, although I followed all the instructions of the brand, I did make some of those mistakes. I will try to remove it now and try again tomorrow. For the videos I have been watching, removing seems to be a time consuming process.
Lifting is mostly prevented in the prep work. Pushing back your cuticles, removing any cuticle on the nail bed and removing oils (dehydrating) the nails before application is super important. Then, if you’re not careful in your application, and get liquid/dip on your skin, that will cause lifting as the mani grows out. Also, make sure to hydrate your skin with a moisturizing cream or cuticle oil daily to keep your skin and nails from drying out. Having your nails too dry or too oily will cause lifting.
prepping such as pushing cuticals back, making sure to buff the main nail as sometimes they are to smooth, making sure to use rubbing alcohol or a pre nail dehydrator and avoid any lotions or ect on hands before doing nails, getting a clean smooth transition from edge of nail by the skin is also needed as having build up can actually cause the nail to come off. also like she stated not all dip base is equal some are crud, anything sally hanson never lasts me long
Great helpful video. Although your not suppose to dip the way you are. The nail should go straight in and your finger shouldn't be bent. Your suppose to dust the nail with each dip. Learned that from my nail tech. So many good tips thank you.
I just finished doing my very first dip powder products and came out a bit awful and was regretting buying the products. Your video popped up few minutes after and I did all of those mistakes mentioned in your video lol Thank you so much once again! I hope my next set is better using your advice
Thanks for the tips and tricks. I do have a question though. I've noticed that on some tutorials other people are saying to use a gel base coat and a gel top coat instead of the dip powder basis and top coats what is your opinion on this? I've not done dip Nails yet all my supplies just came today so I came out to watch more videos and I found yours
The appeal to dip powder is the fact that you don’t need gel or a curing lamp to use the system. Those who are using gel to do the dip routine are doing the “gel method”. It’s very common for those who experience sensitivities to the dip powder liquids.
I use buff to help my natural nail stay strong because I have thin nails. (Nail biter) But long story short, I enjoy using it because it strengthens my nails enough to where it won’t bend. I usually only go with a light pink or a clear or white.
@@heatherlynn9591 There is oil that you can apply on your Cuticle to not only ensure that your cuticles do not crack, but it’s supposed to add nutrition and nutrients to your fingernails to help strengthen them and to help them grow faster. I am a nailbiter, so my nails are naturally unhealthy half the time anyways. Well I got the oil and I’ve been using it for about nine months now, and I have seen a lot of improvements on my nails. My cuticles don’t look red and irritated as much as they used to and they don’t crack and hurt as much as they used to. It’s called blossom cuticle oil, And you can get it from Walmart. You can get it with rose scent or you can get unscented. I personally enjoy to put cuticle oil on my cuticles and my nail beds and then put my favorite lotion on top so that it’s not just getting on my cuticles it’s on my entire hand. I rub it into my fingers and the rest of my hand. It’s helped with calluses since I’ve been doing this. If you want to try it, you should do it twice a day. Once in the morning ad once at night. I hope this works as good for you as it has for me!
@@potatochipblueberry thank you!! I am also a nail biter... dip powder has definitely helped. I started using cuticle oil from revel nail, but I don’t apply it as often as i should. Sounds like it would give me a lot more long term benefits then I realized
@@heatherlynn9591 i know! My natural nails used to be super thick and strong, would grow out super long and would not bend at all! Now, when I take the dip off, they're paper thin! 😭 and they advertise dip powder as not being harmful and go as far as making it sound good for your nails. I feel like I got duped by the dip, in that regard, but I love the look and everything so much that I don't want to stop. Regular polish just doesn't work for me and I'd rather have pretty thin nails than thick unpolished nails, so I pretty much accepted the fact that that's just the way it is. Good to know it's not just me! I'll definitely try what she suggested though, can't hurt. 🤷♀️
@@nunyabidness6045 girrrllll me too, lol. I experimented with poly gel. Like a thin layer on my natural nail, then apply dip. And that seems to help. Poly gel can’t be removed by acetone. You HAVE to file it off. Soo my theory is, my natural nails will appear strong with a clear poly gel. Then i can change the dip
To your bling gel comment, so far my favorite combo is the Modelones bling gel + Modelones gel top coat 🙂 I also haven't tried the Poochies Nails combo yet, which I'm sure is AMAZING
I’ve got all of my supplies here, ready to do my own dip nails 💅 for the very 1st time! I watched a zillion tutorials, but I NOW FEEL READY TO ACTUALLY DO THEM! THANK YOU FOR SHARING! 😊
For me I put to much base to it makes them to thick so I have to file more I am learning slowly I keep using a soft brush aswell this video was so help full thankyou so much 😊😊😊
Thanks for the vid! I've tried both brands and I like both of them 🥰. I think as long as you don't put too much product of any brand, you wouldn't have to worry too much about overflooding the cuticles 💖 I really like Doubledip products and so I feel like they're kind of placed in a negative light here.
Thank you! Almost every brand with a thicker consistency can cause cuticle flooding. Since I can’t recreate the flooding with a thin consistency liquid, I had to use a thicker one. I made sure not to mention or press and say they were bad liquids (because I don’t think they’re bad, that’s why I own them), as this can happen with any thicker brand liquids. I also want to emphasize, as I did in the video - it’s not the liquid that is the issue, it’s the technique. That is why when I showed “how to fix it”, it was the technique that I focused on. But as I mentioned before, I can’t recreate the flooding with my thin liquids, so I had to use something thicker. In this instance, it was double dip. It could’ve been any brand (I would’ve used Revel but unfortunately I’m severely allergic to their dip liquids).
I think some of it depends on the shape of your nail, too. My nails aren’t all the same shape at the cuticle and over the nail bed, and some of them are WAY more prone to flooding than others.
Here’s a tip ☝🏼
When doing your first layer go to your mid nail & down stroke with the brush, not all the way to the top by cuticle.
Sometimes I'll build my apex with clear first
In your opinion, what brand of adhesive is best for long lasting manicure?
I’d say 3/4 where the apex should be and then the rest near the cuticle looks thin and flawless.
Great tip!
Why would I want it curved? Is that a thing? Is that powder so thick? Sorry, I never had powder nails...

@@sashasaint-sulne518 I am slowing improving and figuring stuff out. I seem to have to best luck using the dipping power rather then poly gel. The real important thing is that your nails are prepped properly. I'm working on that bit LOL
Same!!! I love having my nails done but hate paying those prices!!
Looking forward to trying nail dip on my own after watching this video. Thank you!!!
This is an excellent video!! Thanks for all these tips. I’m a new user of dip nails and am learning as I go. You really helped me!
Your first mistake is what led me to your channel!! Thank you!
Thank you for watching 🥰🤩
This explains so much about why my nails came out looking weird!!!
I just made my first attempt with dipping and, although I followed all the instructions of the brand, I did make some of those mistakes. I will try to remove it now and try again tomorrow.
For the videos I have been watching, removing seems to be a time consuming process.
This was helpful, but I have couple more questions:
1. How do you prevent lifting?
Lifting is mostly prevented in the prep work.
Pushing back your cuticles, removing any cuticle on the nail bed and removing oils (dehydrating) the nails before application is super important.
Then, if you’re not careful in your application, and get liquid/dip on your skin, that will cause lifting as the mani grows out.
Also, make sure to hydrate your skin with a moisturizing cream or cuticle oil daily to keep your skin and nails from drying out. Having your nails too dry or too oily will cause lifting.
prepping such as pushing cuticals back, making sure to buff the main nail as sometimes they are to smooth, making sure to use rubbing alcohol or a pre nail dehydrator and avoid any lotions or ect on hands before doing nails, getting a clean smooth transition from edge of nail by the skin is also needed as having build up can actually cause the nail to come off. also like she stated not all dip base is equal some are crud, anything sally hanson never lasts me long
Great video! Thank you Carole for the educational tips!
Game changing!!! Thank you so much
Just have to say, YOU'RE SO GORGEOUS!!! 💕
Also, love your videos. 🥰
Thank you!!
Great video, like others, I wish I watched before doing my nails
I wish I had watched this a year ago!! I actually gave up on dip altogether I was frustrated with so many things u covered!!! Gonna Subscribe !
Thank you so much!
And this video is newer (less than 2 months old) so I wish I had made it sooner 🥲
Oh boy I wish I had seen this in May 2020! I’m much much better now and no longer have 1/2” tall nails’ 😂
Omg thank you so much for the tips!! So helpful. My nails are going to be looking so much better now.
Excellent video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
This is very helpful information, thank you so much for sharing!!
Great helpful video. Although your not suppose to dip the way you are. The nail should go straight in and your finger shouldn't be bent. Your suppose to dust the nail with each dip. Learned that from my nail tech. So many good tips thank you.
I found that a coffee filter is great to wipe off top coat brush between coats.
Lint free.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Just received my first kit. Love the tips !! 💅🏻
I just wish I'd see you before my firt trial!! It's ok, I will try agai 😁
I just finished doing my very first dip powder products and came out a bit awful and was regretting buying the products. Your video popped up few minutes after and I did all of those mistakes mentioned in your video lol
Thank you so much once again!
I hope my next set is better using your advice
You got this!! It only gets better from here 💖🥰
Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us ❤️❤️, I want to start during my own nails soon ! U give me hope lol
You can do it!
Such a helpful video. Thank you so much❤
Love these tips! Now I see why I had issues. Thank you!
This is a great dip tutorial. Thanks for doing it! 😄
(Nail biter)
But long story short, I enjoy using it because it strengthens my nails enough to where it won’t bend. I usually only go with a light pink or a clear or white.
I’m running into that problem.... no matter what my nails keep getting thin! I want to keep playing with dip. But idk how to keep that from happening
Thank you so much for this video! It's super informative!
Great video, even after I’ve been dipping for 2 years!
To your bling gel comment, so far my favorite combo is the Modelones bling gel + Modelones gel top coat 🙂 I also haven't tried the Poochies Nails combo yet, which I'm sure is AMAZING
I getting ready to do my dip powder for the first time. Thanks for all the tips and hints.
I’ve got all of my supplies here, ready to do my own dip nails 💅 for the very 1st time! I watched a zillion tutorials, but I NOW FEEL READY TO ACTUALLY DO THEM! THANK YOU FOR SHARING! 😊
🙌 yessss!!! Sending you good vibes on your first time!!! 🥳🌸
Hi, great vid. Very helpful. After a few days my dip nails can peal/ping off. Any tips to prevent this?
I have those same glasses. LOVE THEM. Also bought them in black and silver and tortoise shell and gold.
I need them in all the colors!
Now if I could just get this french tip right on short nails I would be great! It ends up looking square with the french dip tray 🤷🏼♀️
Thank u for ur help, I definitely put too much on my nail and was supposed to do 3 coats and ended up doing 2, buy they looked so bad
I am a first timer, GREAT VIDEO. Thanks
Is nice someone talks about the mistakes
