This video is so helpful.. the product videos just shows a quick minute video and skips all these steps to make the products look so easy to use.. and then you wonder why you don’t get the same results
I’ve been using dip powder for a month and couldn’t get my nails to turn out like I wanted them. These tips helped me achieve the perfect dip manicure! Thank you so much!
You are awesome! I used to do my dip nails about three years ago myself and then I stopped doing them. I went last month and had them done at a salon for $55 and they came beautiful! Now it’s time to take them off I said wow this is going to be challenging. So I just saw your video and said wow I can do that myself again. I’ll just be careful about all these mistakes. I have all the stuff I had so I’m going to try on my own again thanks for all the tips.💜
What I do with the top coat is generally do my dip through the activator in the evening, and wait until the next day to put top coat. I wash my hands in water only, no soap, dry them, and then do the top coats, waiting between coats. I've ruined bottles of top coat at the beginning by not waiting after the activator. This tip is also great for moms because it gives you a good stopping point if the kids need you!
I’ve been doing my own nails for a year and still have technique questions. My results are pretty good, but it takes *hours* to do them because I’m unknowingly making mistakes and have to correct them. Your videos are just what I need! Count me in as a new subscriber. 😄
I just bought my first dip kit, watching tutorials on how to do it, but the past 2 months I've been getting into doing nail art and nail stamping by myself and it takes me hours to do it too lol
I've been dipping for a yesr and a half but still found a couple helpfuls. One thing I found when I've hardened top coat brushes Is, they are removable from the cap. Amazon sells replaceable brushes in a bag. Buy not only that, the original brush can be soaked over night in acetone (I use a small jar with lid), wash with soap & water, let dry and it is reusable too.
I just take my brush that needs to be cleaned and change it with the one in the bottle of brush cleaner, when I need to change it again, it's ready to go!
Absolutely amazing video. The fact that you SHOWED what people are doing wrong first !!! And you were right. They were the most common mistakes lol thanks for the amazing tips
I just did my first dip today…I SO wish I found this first! My nails are so bumpy and basically a hot mess. Can’t wait to try again with these tips! I definitely need to buff my heart out.
Mine look like a hot mess as well and I just did them this afternoon. Definitely hope my next set look better. Thank you for the tip on flooding the cuticle! That’s exactly what happened to mine
This was SO helpful. For so long I struggled with dip because these brands advertise their kits being a complete set for a manicure. Not true at all and led to me quitting dipping so many times after being a hot mess. After doing my research and practicing so much I finally got good at it!
Thank you so much, Carole Annette!! I really appreciate the time you've taken to do this video. It's an active kindness. Been doing my nails for a little while now since COVID ( immuno compromised ). Was getting bored, so decided I would learn to do nails on my own, but only discovered dip kits last spring. II have had most of these problems, criticized myself severely, despite getting lots of compliments. I did not realize there were solutions which mostly require a little patience. I will be checking out your channel for more wonderful advice!
Thank you for the kind praise 🙏🏻💖 I’m happy you found this video helpful! I hope you enjoy what you see and if you ever need any help with anything nail related, just holler 📣 and I’ll help you the best I can. 🥰
Here’s a tip ☝🏼 When doing your first layer go to your mid nail & down stroke with the brush, not all the way to the top by cuticle. Doing this will add a nice curve to the nail vs looking straight & flat on top :)
The apex method is amazing! But here's another tip: if the nail you're adding dip color already has an apex, just do two or three thin layers over the entire nail. Doing an apex over an apex doesn't come out so great lol I learned that the hard way. Sometimes I'll build my apex with clear first
New subscriber here... I LOVE the "priming your files" tip! I've cut, or scraped my cuticles, too many times and I've never thought to file the edges! THANKS! 😃
My nail tech moved so I decided to dip. I didn't take the time Friday when I did them so I took the time today. I've watched many of your videos and they've been so helpful! My nails turned our much better!
Huh! I didn't know that a new file could be bad for your skin/nails. I mean, well, now I do! Lol. Thank you so much! This showed and answered "problems" I didn't know we're problems or shouldn't be doing until I watched this! Wow! I'm so glad I watched this before doing my nails again.
I've been using dip powder for 2 years now but still learned some things from your video. I have always used a soft brush to brush off excess powder and have contaminated several bottles of base because of the bottle brush picking up powder that was left on my nails. I am now switching to a toothbrush as you recommended!
When the bottles are contaminated do they go thick and gluggy? This is whats happened to my Revel Base Coat and Top Coat. The gel thinner isn't helping either :(
Great tips! These have become so popular and we're all ready to quit paying a fortune for our nails! I'm about to do them again I will use your tips this time thank you!
Thanks for this. I'm glad I watched before I started dipping. I think I'm going to get mine done professionally before I start doing them on my on. Too many mistakes to make and I want to watch her first.
This is my plan too. I've gotten it done once and I'll go once or twice more (this month and maybe the next) so I'll be ready. I also ordered a cheap kit (Kiss nails) with a light color powder so that even if I make a mistake, it won't be as noticable.
Fantastic advice thank you great tips. I have been doing my own manicure for three years, although I have to use a lamp to cure the product i use your advise is Brillant.
I did my nails twice this month and now I understand why they came out so badly! LOL I cut my fingers twice from the nail files, cuticles were flooded and have bumpy bulky, warped nails. They don't look as bad as that sounds, but they aren't good still. I'll definitely be using these techniques to do better. Thank you so much!!

@@sashasaint-sulne518 I am slowing improving and figuring stuff out. I seem to have to best luck using the dipping power rather then poly gel. The real important thing is that your nails are prepped properly. I'm working on that bit LOL
@@CaroleAnnette thank you soo much I recently purchased peppi nails I am a beginner on dip nails but I am curious if it would work doing it when there's nail ridges
It does. I have pitting from psoriasis and dip fills it in nicely. That said I do add an extra step - I do a base layer or two to get a good coat all over, then I harden that with the activator and file/buff to get a nice even thin layer with all the pits filled in and smoothed out. Then wipe off dust/activator residue and resume dipping to finish to your desired end result as normal. I find I get a nicer end result this way than if I build all the layers and need to buff/file a ton at the end to get rid of all the lumpiness from the underlying pitting. Also then you don’t risk having to file through your clear cap at a particularly high point. I usually use a natural/nude color for the first layer then do the finish layers with whatever color I like - saves wasting the pretty colors by applying them just to file it off again.
The kit I got came with cuticle pusher, soft ish brush, files with different grits, as well as a heal oil for the end. It came with bond liquid to put on after you push cuticles and file/buff your nails and sanitise, to prevent oils affecting the bond. then the base for dips, the seal to activate, and the glow top coat. Only thing it didn't come with was a sanitizer of any sort to sanitise with.
Thank you 💕 ive been struggling with this is doesnt help that every brand is different, and the nail tutorials and 2 min and extremely basics ans they dont talk about the does and donts, thanks again
Can I use an electric buffer like on a nail drill instead if manually buffing. Just asking because I have fibromyalgia and a lot of back-and-forth with my arms makes my wrists and arms for a sore
I also use a cosmetic wedge to press the powder into the dip base after I've dipped. Not too much pressure but a bit of a firm pressure to help create more of a shape.
I have a question so I learned the hard way that you need to clean your brush with 100% acetone between each and every topcoat to prevent the brush from hardening I’ve been using modelone dip powders and I did not know that wiping after the layer of activator with alcohol can prevent the brush from clumping is that with every brand or do you happen to know if the model one brand in specific you’re able to wipe with alcohol after the activator layer to prevent topcoat brush from hardening
I personally don’t have to do that when I use ManiBoss dip liquids! They’re my favorite. Thin formula and hard to contaminate/harden the brushes! maniboss.com/collections/liquids-and-mani-essentials
What if you want to add tips onto your nails. I just did that last night and used gel nail glue. They popped right off. I buffed them before hand and all. What about using an efile? Could I use that to prepare my nail and buff it? So much easier.
Thank you! And yes! I’ve actually gotten a few requests before so I added the website link and style name in the description box of the video. The link is one of the first few links I share.
Thank you. I have sensitive skin and this happens even without products on my nails, while using my hands. We moved last year and my nails didn’t have product on it and it was a brutal time for my skin packing all those boxes 😅😅

What if you want to add tips onto your nails. I just did that last night and used gel nail glue. They popped right off. I buffed them before hand and all.
What about using an efile? Could I use that to prepare my nail and buff it? So much easier.
Can you put dip top coat on gel polish?

We moved last year and my nails didn’t have product on it and it was a brutal time for my skin packing all those boxes 😅😅
