  • ‪@strymon‬ has jumped right back into all the latest reverb headlines with their long anticipated release of the BigSkyMX (BSMX), setting out to dominate the world of big box multi-reverbs for another decade. They upped the ante with 3 times the processing power, updated layout and UI, but most impressively, the ability to do dual reverbs and load IRs! However, with this upgrade also comes a hefty increase in price! Jumping from the $479 all the way to $679, one has to ask, "is it worth it?"
    Let's dive into some of the features and what makes the BSMX stand out from the crowd and let's see if it's worth the price of admission!

    Mercury x just sounds so phenomenal in my opinion. This is a great pedal, but I don’t know. I think it’s maybe the timing. Maybe they should’ve waited a bit longer to release it to let the mercury x air out a bit.

    Maybe I am just too at home with all of the eerieness offered by the Nightsky, because I am not being pulled to this, though it is really cool and sounds great. We all know the price point is a bit steep, even for Strymon. Your demos are always well done!

    I can't stop thinking the "MX" really stands for "M[ercury ]X" on this thing. I get the UI is very different, but it seems somehow a Strymonesque response to the Mercury X, which I think was designed by a former Strymon employee?

    It "built up" because you had it on FREEZE mode, instead of INFINITE. FREEZE means all signal keeps getting added to a Verb.

    • @thepedalcollaborative
      @thepedalcollaborative  4 месяца назад +1

      “Jesus man you are an amateur. Great sound otherwise.” Quite the backhanded compliment there eh?
      I don’t mind correction. I welcome it actually because it helps us all. However correcting with wrong information doesn’t help anyone. Per the Strymon manual, your description of INFINITE vs FREEZE is quite the opposite of what it is. Here’s what they say, “Freeze - Play a note or chord, then press and hold the footswitch to capture and sustain the reverb applied to your signal indefinitely while the footswitch is held.* As you play new notes/chords while still holding the footswitch, you'll hear them on top of your "frozen" signal without being added to the reverb.
      Infinite - Press and hold the footswitch to hear reverb applied indefinitely to all input signals while the footswitch is held.”
      As for the parameter mapping function, the original BS had them pre mapped with no ability to change what the parameter knobs adjusted. While the BSMX comes pre-mapped, I was showing how you could re-map those knobs based on preference. You’re right in than you don’t need to map them for them to function.

      @@thepedalcollaborative I think the misinformation that it was distorting the reverb, when it was clearly user error, was triggering. You literally set it to a mode where it collects and builds up all new tone. Great sound otherwise, I was impressed by your custom verb. Param 1 and 2 already set to control ensemble and low end right out of the box.

    • @mmatthewias280
      @mmatthewias280 4 месяца назад +1

      @@thepedalcollaborative That alone may be reason enough for me not to consider. I switch between 3 presets often and was really disappointed when I got my timeline only to realize I couldn't bypass the tap function for a 3rd preset. The Boss 500 series pedals enable you to choose differing functions for the 3rd and Strymon needs to as well IMO.

    • @thepedalcollaborative
      @thepedalcollaborative  4 месяца назад +1

      @mmatthewias280 couldn’t agree more! This is part of why I love the Meris MercuryX and LVX. 3 presets on tap each with their own switch plus a 4th switch. On the LVX (delay), the 4th switch is dedicated tap tempo or hold to do into looper mode. Switches 1-3 can be assigned to do a variety of things when you hold it down like crank the feedback or change the subdivision.
      On the MercuryX, the 4th switch can be assigned to pretty much anything. Infinite hold, tap for the predelay, ramp up the mix, whatever.
      Big miss by Strymon

      For this one I’m using an HX Stomp as the interface for the amps (jazz chorus…clean baby clean!) and my VO mic is going into my phone.
