Dude a couple of these sounds are absolutely killer….wild stuff. This pedal is a goat imo. it’s on my shelf atm but keeps staring at me and wants its place back
Definitely a fun revisit, I find the need to shelve it every once in a while or I get too familiar, but that’s kinda what this video was meant to be anyways!
3 of 5 I already knew/use. I’m usually a set it and forget it guy but after so many years I did a deeper dive and stumbled across some of these sounds. With Shimmer example you can also do a convincing RV5 mod reverb and a Soft Focus style verb as well. If you go outside the U2 shimmer thing, it’s probably the most underrated setting in the pedal.
I really haven't done tons with the shimmer, I'll have to spend a bit more time on it, but there really are some incredible sounds to find it you escape the gravitational pull of the cloud mode. Out of curiosity, what were the 3 you use vs the 2 you hadn't?
This made my heart happy. The impression I get from other users that I know personally is an overwhelming focus on Cloud, and that's quite sad, IMO. Yeah it gives you instant pads, BUT there are other great algorithms and sounds therein and I'm glad to see someone else making use of them. I don't use Magnetic, Nonlinear and Shimmer in quite the same ways you do, but there is a lot of overlap. Magnetic I'm actually using as a timed, discrete delay this week (but I typically use it with 6 heads, uneven spacing, to do a relatively normal reverb thing.) For those that don't know, you can find out the tap value by dividing the ms by the number of heads. So the longest delay possible (with 3 heads) is actually 500 ms, iirc, but in any case you can time them with precision, if desired. In Nonlinear I tend to use in Gauss (although I use Bounce as well), and I love the fact that you can control modulation speed as well as time. It is such a cool 'repeating reverb,' and far more than just reverse reverb. I do like the flexibility of 'normal' octave up sounds in Shimmer, but the Micropitch thing (+/-10 cents) is my jam. I never tried to get quite as straight up of a chorus sound as you did, but that could be fun. I like it as a more obvious reverb, with the Micropitch baked in. Very wide, lush sound, and for my money as good as many chorus sounds (though MPT is not technically chorus.) FWIW I think Swell is incredibly underrated. The modulation, by '4 phase oscillator' is so lush. It's really less about the rise of the wet or dry/wet than the overall sound of the reverb with this one, IMO.
Really helpful video, sir! I only play acoustic so not many of these (extremely cool) tones make sense for me right now. BUT this has lit a fire under me to dive a little deeper. I was gifted my BigSky and was so overjoyed with some of the presets (with minor tweaks) that I have just happily suspended my exploration. Time for a deeper, broader dive!
Glad it was helpful! I think it's got a ton of fun to dive into the weirder side of pedals like this, you'll have to let me know how they sound on acoustic!

What are you using instead?

loved this video! u have to do a timeline one
hmm, I think I might just have to
Bruh! There’s something wonderfully wrong with you🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 thank you for sharing your genius

Loved these, new sub here 🤟🏽🎸
Thanks for checking it out!!!
I wish there was a way to upload these presets like the ToneX does as a big pool for everyone to contribute
Technically you can share presets from Nixie, but yeah nothing like a cloud share/storage system. Would be nice!
first.
It's less funny when it's true
First.
This guy gets it
