    Nice review and overview... As someone who was in the market to buy a reverb pedal anyway, I immediately grabbed the BigSky MX. I was using the Line6 Helix reverbs before. They can sound wonderful, but I am amazed every single time that I play through the BigSky, how it is close to impossible to dial in a bad sound with it... Even dialed up to 20 seconds (!) the reverb does not sound overly muddy. With the Line6 reverbs I had to fiddle with the virtual knobs a lot more to get them how I imagined it. I was either going for the CXM or a Neunaber (fck UAFX's phone apps and horrible user support; that's why the "Golden" never was an option). I didn't want to buy the imo outdated old BigSky (the new algorithms sound so much better btw), so the MX came exactly at the right time for me... The one thing that I worry about is the new display... These LEDs will burn through and change their brightness significantly over time. That's why Strymon put in those scrolling screen savers. I unplug mine, when I am not using it, which is mildly annoying.

    The reverb game is suoer hot right now with this, the Mercury X, CXM 1978, abd even scalled back options like the cloudburst, blue sky, illumine, Mako R1 and the Mercury7 remains super relevant. I'm waiting on a used CXM 1978 to arrive today. At £500 it was hard to ignore for someone not loving screen parameters etc. its also one of this epedals that i think will still be relevant in 10 years due to the UI. Sou d wise, it feels theres not much headroom for reverb to get better. more creative - undoubtedly, but not better quality

    I was JUST about to get the Mercury X. Two strymon pedals into one with an IR loader seems really hard to beat. I feel that is a big justification for the price. But I saw a comment around here saying that dual reverb discussions haven't been made yet. I'm conflicted whether to go with the Mercury X as I have been planning for so long, pairing it with the LVX, or now opting for this Big Sky mx. Please any help or thoughts would be much appreciated. This would be my first reverb pedal purchase ever.

    This thing sounds amazing, and the demo is really great, as always.
    This pedal is $679 USD. Not saying it’s not worth the asking price, but $679? Holy sh*t.
    I love my Strymon Flint and Volante. Expensive, but worth every penny to me.
    But $679 is just a lot of damn money for most, I would think.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial Месяц назад +7

      That’s not far off from how I discuss the price in this video. 679 is steep. 200 above the original but that extra 200 buys a shocking amount of functionality and isn’t priced well out of step with most modern studio reverb devices and I think it’s worth placing it in that category

    I asked Meris and they said one of their newer engines on the Mercury X is actually dual engine..

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial Месяц назад +3

      I love the Mercury X. I demoed it on this channel and that video speaks for itself in terms of how great of a reverb device it is. Having said that; “we have a reverb that is two reverbs” is definitely not the same as “you can run any two reverbs in this device in any configuration you want”

    • @STROA13
      @STROA13 Месяц назад

      @@markjohnstonofficial I think I only mention that because the Mercury X might actually be capable of doing that. It's unclear what their processor power is because I could not find it anywhere.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial Месяц назад +2

      I mean only the crew at Meris knows IF the processing power is there to be able to run dual reverbs. My gut says "not the way they do things" given HOW many customizable blocks and parameters go into building any given reverb preset. Verb tends to be one of the most processed intensive DSP effects and their engines are really complex both in terms of the core sound and the flexibility. I'm skeptical that it could handle two instantiations of reverb in its current workflow but more importantly; it CAN'T do it because it's not part of the firmware. Like I say in this video re; the Nixie editor's future roadmap: don't make purchases on promised future updates. And the idea of the Merit being dual reverb hasn't even been discussed.

    • @STROA13
      @STROA13 Месяц назад

      @@markjohnstonofficial I totally agree. I think any sort of dual reverb iteration from Meris would be a paired down version of the parameters they offer right now.

    imho Strymon just waisted an opportunity to relaunch this pedal in a smaller form factor, such as the half of it, like the blue sky and the others. Real state optimization in pedalboards is on top of the mind of guitar players nowadays

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial 26 дней назад

      “They should have doubled its capabilities in half the size” feels like something that’s easier to ask for in a RUclips comment than it is to implement.
