THE PEDAL COLLABORATIVE
США
Добавлен 19 окт 2022
Hey! How's it going? Welcome to The Pedal Collaborative! We're here to explore effects pedals in a different way. Sometimes we make videos about different ways to use a pedal. Sometimes we do a review of sorts. Sometimes we just play through a few at a time and let the pedals do the talking. Whatever brought you here, welcome! It’s truly a pleasure to have you join the conversation!
There's a bunch more to dive in and explore

FIRST SOUNDS // Walrus M1 Mkii - This is Not Just a MKii, This is a Whole New Pedal!!! // NO TALKING
We've been big fans of the @walrusaudioeffects Mako series since they were first released several years back. We got some early insight into the new Mako II line and now that we have them in our hands we're so excited to share the first sounds with you! Walrus has updated these in a big way and the OLED screen is such a welcome sight! (Yes we see the screen jitter. 100% promise you it's due to the refresh rate of the lighting and FPS of the camera not jiving with the refresh rate of the pedal's screen. You see no such thing in real life!).

They've done so well with drives and their own show that some feared a new delay may not come...and even if it did, it wouldn't be exciting. We're happy to say this one is worth the salt! Josh and the good folks at JHS have taken 3 classic delays, the digital @BOSSinfoglobal DD-5, the analog @EHX Deluxe Memory Man, and the reverse...

Digital, tape, or lo-fi delay? You got it. Need reverb? Yup. Chorus? Absolutely! Can you blend these effects together, with or without delay? 100% doable. The Wet Hot American Bummer is an impressive new delay pedal that covers a ton of sonic ground and is super easy to navigate. The BFR and Artifact modes are sublime..in the same league as Prism and Gravity 👽
Absolutely! Not as tweakable as the MercX but not as expensive or big either!
@thepedalcollaborative Exactly..we are lucky to have Merc X all the same..🤘
Great demo. Clearly an amazing sounding pedal and I remain a Walrus fan. Surprised they didn’t call it the M2 instead of M1 MKii. Anyway, looks like it’s massively easier to use than MKi with all those confusing submenus and switches that it had. I got tired of referring to the manual and boxed it up. I think Josh Scott recently said no ‘classic’ pedals have screens. As multi-effects pedals like this go, I think the classics will be ones like Hologram Chroma. A lot of us use pedals to escape screens or to hear an analog circuit - otherwise we’d just use the many high quality, low cost DAW plugins. The M1 MKii seems to me like a hifi Zoom MultiStomp, except those actually can do more things. My conclusion (with the help of your demo) is that this sounds great but I prefer the form factor/design of other pedals. If someone is going to look at a screen and pay $399, I’d recommend they get a used HX Stomp. So you going to keep it?
oh that's a hard question to answer! When I got the first M1, I liked it so much that I used the vinyl lo-fi sound on a lot of tracks on the first Swallowed by Sound album, then it inspired me to get their Julianna because I like the chorus so much, and then the Monumental because I liked the tremolo so much! This Mkii can do a whole lot more, so we shall see!
Ive been trying to choose a Modulation pedal with midi and canniot choose. Synesthesia..Mobius...terrorform...etc etc. Should I choose this one??
I should add....this video didn't sell it to me :(
I wouldn't say this video was intended to "sell" you on it, but to give you an idea of the sounds it can make right off the bat. The First Sounds videos are meant more to show you how easy it is to get sounds, the depth of parameters, etc.
I haven't tried the Synethesia or Terraform, but I believe the Synethesia can do 2 modulation effects at the same time. Definitely something to check out!
@@thepedalcollaborative for sure! That’s what it did too..I want to love a modulation pedal but am yet to find the one. This may well be the one or the synesthesia…but then I think..just get a h90. Haha
@ACIDLOVE. Oh the H90! I want one too haha
I actually enjoy when you are talking through what you are doing/thinking. Great demo, as always!
I second this!
Why thank you! I'll do a deeper dive into these where I talk. This is more just exploring the sounds of the pedals!
thanks so much!
would be interesting to see a CB pedal midi-sequenced. it's funny no such videos exist, while people do that with decades-old Echoplex..
Ooh interesting! What specifically would you like to see?

great review ...maybe the best of this pedal ....maybe a longer one soon ?! Hope you'll do another one
We’d be happy to do a longer one! What would you like us to cover?
@@thepedalcollaborative maybe deeper fuzz territory ( or a comparative with the singularity - does the clipping mode change a lot with the blackhole - ) .....and the others two ....but the real deal is without interface (just a few people do this but it's actualy a lot more informative .....if you can ?

@@thepedalcollaborativedefinitely, i already loved my polytune 3 minis . But now i have a picture of my dogs on my board 😅
@ianlovelessofficial it’s such a great idea!
I'll take your word for it. The sounds for each example didn't sound much different.
In hindsight I realize I set them all up the way I play…which is transparent to light OD. Next time I’ll pull some variety 😆
Thank you for showcasing the vibrato in a normal way! So many reviews cranking it up and it sounds ridiculous. Great sounding pedal.
You’re quite welcome! Just tried to showcase the sounds that were the most musical to the ears!
This might sound stupid, but you know what keeps me away from JHS? The generic artwork. I just can’t get past that.
Toan is in the aesthetics so no judgement! There are some brands I can’t get past because of looks so I totally get it!
What keeps me away is how generic they all sound (minus a select few), their super limited feature sets, and the prices for said feature sets (among other things).
Fair enough! I think what they did for the “boutique” pedal world early on was pretty great. As with everything, not every release is a home run, and some could say many more recent JHS releases haven’t been. This one is pretty good though and worth the price of admission I think. You get the 3 solid, albeit generic, delay modes and the ability to do chorus or vibrato on all of them. It’s basically the modulation from the DMM and giving you the ability to put it on the DD-5 and DL4!
@@thepedalcollaborativeThe reverse mode is what kicks it into “oh yeah” territory for me. But i’m a shoegaze person
@sub-jec-tiv it’s so good!
Day 2 of asking you to review the raster 2

Interesting. I just checked and had sound.
feel like this question was asked backwards..
…simply to continue the theme of what the MercuryX can do
Blackout Mercury X sighting! Very jealous, but the blue is much better than the all white LVX
I will say, the Blackout MercuryX with the white LVX is like walking into a formal event wearing a tuxedo. They look great together!
Thumbnail has a typo. Should be "Can Golden Compete With Mercury X?"
Typo? Or strategic word placement? 🤔
@@thepedalcollaborative Or clickbait 🤐
Weak uncreative clickbait 😆
thats what i came here to say as well
I bought the mercury x a few months ago and I only find myself using the deep blue preset, I need to find a new sound.
It’s a great preset..hard to move away from
First there’s nothing wrong with having a favored preset you don’t ever leave. You still have the other 98 slots for when you want or need to move to something else. If you have any of our preset packs they can be a great place to start exploring more as well!
I feel you. think I would do way more exploration if there was an editor so i wasn't bent over for 30 minutes menu diving all the time
@azazabacheche3973 there IS an editor for MercuryX! It’s amazing. It’s called prEDITOR and you can get it here: www.meris.us/product/preditor-editor-librarian/
Just be brave and use the other sounds. That’s what I had to do 😊
Some great tones here! And the stereo is fantastic.
Thanks! Demedash makes some great pedals!
Cheers guys, enjoyed that and given me some Julien baker and Explosions in the sky related homework!
Right on!!!
Do you have the output from your interface and the amp model running into the pedal and the output of the pedal into the input of the interface? I’m trying to get my head around the signal path for this, sounds beautiful
Great question! The Audient Sono can reamp, and it had optical in, so I have my guitar going straight into the tube preamp on the Sono. I have it then going into the Benson VST then out the reamp channel of the Sono into the Too Positive, into the Meraki. Out the Meraki into channels 3&4 via a Behringer ultra gain optical 8-channel preamp. Only the final stereo signal is being recorded in Pro Tools. Hope that helps! Any questions let me know!
@@thepedalcollaborative Ok great thank you for replying!! I have a Nano Cortex which I am going to try and make work with this.. So guitar into NC, then out (line level) in stereo to Meraki, then into my Apollo twins inputs. Do you think the Meraki will accept line level inputs from the Cortex? If not could you suggest a workaround? Thanks.. loving the cahnnel!!
That should work! The Meraki should have no problem with the level the NC sends. Have fun! And thanks for being a part of the channel! Check out the podcast too if you want to hear us just talking about pedals and such 😂
@ ooh nice I need a new podcast for the commute! See you there
@gibsguitars we post episodes most every Wednesday to here as well as Apple/Spotify etc. pick your poison and search for “The Pedal Collaborative Podcast” See ya there!
The Halo isn’t true stereo is it?
According to Keeley’s website it is!
Not a looper
Which one?
@@thepedalcollaborative chroma console is not a looper. It's just an effects pedal.
@Swel_Remarkable it’s not traditionally a looper, but does have the ability to loop 30 seconds in a completely different way than the microcosm
@@thepedalcollaborative Ah, well thanks for explaining. It's too expensive for me anyway haha. I had a boss rc-505, now thát's a looper :) I had much fun with it.
@Swel_Remarkable it’s nowhere near the looper capabilities of that boss RC! Such a cool pedal
but i love that pedals are starting to put the jacks in the back it allows a bigger case with cables out of the way a pedal with jack's in the back uses less space that a smaller pedal with jack's on the side
Whatever helps save real estate on the pedalboard to give more room for more pedals!!!
slanted is worse in the first row as it messes with the second row 😂
Come to think of, even more so if the second row is ALSO slanted! Then you can’t get to them at all!
@thepedalcollaborative exactly is the worst idea! also as most of the pedalboard are now also slanted (another idiot thing the best is to have a raised second row were you can also put your power supply under)
@electronik808 tiered pedalboards are great for this!
❤
❤️ indeed!!!
Ordered this pedal and waiting for it to come in. However, I'm not a stereo user; my pedalboard is hooked up in mono. I was wondering if I was simply succumbing to G.A.S. (basically yes) or if the pedal would sound unique enough in mono to want to keep it. The dedicated modulation controls for depth and rate are ultimately what sell it for me. And this thing can get weeeeeeird. Thank you for fully exploring these controls and with high feedback.
I think you’ll really like it! It’s a really great delay.
I've ran a Polymoon paired with an Alexander Pedals History Lesson, until I upgraded to their Rewind, on my board for a few years. And I've tried most of the decent delays on the market. The one notable shortcoming I've found with the Polymoon (excluding presets) is that it always softens the initial attack, regardless of how low you set the Dimension knob. While I often don't mind this at all, sometimes I want exactly what I play to be echoed. But the interface and level of control on this thing is absolute top notch. You should give the Alexander Rewind a look. It sounds excellent and covers so much ground in a single unit sized pedal housing.
I want to try out more of the Alexander stuff! Everything I’ve tried so far is top notch!
Im very excited to see how tariffs affect the importation of cheap forign made pedals. I feel like it will help the US pedal manufactures.
Good point! That leads me to question what sort of tariffs will affect components coming in that US pedal manufacturers use. PCBs, capacitors, diodes, LEDs, etc. we could ultimately see price increases all around!
@@thepedalcollaborative it depends on what the tariffs are focused on. The US generally takes low level components already built and use them to build higher level equipment. If we keep that focus they will likely put most of the imports on finished goods and not 'raw materials'
@seanbrooks2583 we shall see! Fingers crossed we don’t get hosed all the way around
Yea. I heard lots of people putting the idea of tariffs down, but when I asked if they had a better idea, they stop talking!
Tariffs are economic and political suicide for the U.S. It will swell inflation immediately and take a decade for domestic industry to catch up. Of course, manufacturing moves around, so Tariffs on Mexico would be next, then the next country on and on. It's a pretty backward idea.
Sloer doesn't even come close to the capabilities of the Mercury X... 💥
You are correct! Some users may want the ease of use provided by the Slöer as opposed to the capability of near-infinity on the MercuryX
Huh?
??
hi mate do u think you can get the cloud thing from the bigsky in the nightsky ? cheers
You can get close with the shimmer but it’s not the same
@@thepedalcollaborative thanks for answering. the difussion thing in the nightsky sounds in the same side of the cloud? i mean big lush almost drony sounds or not? i just check the youtube videos of the nightsky and im wondering to trade my bigsky for a nightsky . (im only using the cloud mode in the bigsky.)
@jakobDium if you only use the Cloud mode then try the nightsky and if that doesn’t do it, get the Cloudburst! Of course you can get a Meris MercuryX and get very cloud-like as well
Can you control the predelay of the reverb on the mood mk2?
Yes, you can adjust it. It’s more noticeable here in this video: ruclips.net/video/s_x5xNO70lA/видео.html
@thepedalcollaborative awesome! Thanks. But can it be adjusted on the face of the pedal in any way without using midi devices?
Yes, by adjusting the time, modify, and clock knobs you can make adjustments to the pre-delay without needing midi clock
The Meris has a better signal to noise ratio. Beautifies what you play. Interesting comparison.
Agreed!
Am I missing something? Aren’t the algorithms that appear in the CXM built by Meris and appear in the MercuryX…? EDIT: I guess they’re not identical, and the audio is processed differently on each device. To my ears it sounds like Meris wanted to sustain the epic/cinematic/si-fi character of the MercuryX across the board, which means the 78 reverbs have a little seasoning of that character where the CXM does not. On the other hand, the CXM is really leans into that lush, lofi vintage charm. Hard choice indeed…
Nailed it! 🙌
Can you please replicate this with the red panda raster 2?
I’ll have to get my hands on a Raster!!!
Why the mono output ?
You’re experiencing it in mono? 🤔
I was actually just wondering about Valhalla vs Meris! I’ve been debating these two for my own recording, as well as the Poly Verbs. I think the Valhalla wins for me
Great minds think alike!
I thought the Meris was an impressive pedal, but I decided to return it. Spending $600 on a reverb pedal that I’d mainly use for experimental sounds just didn’t feel worthwhile.
Some people wouldn’t dream of dropping that kind of $$ on a reverb. Or a delay. Or anything really. To others it’s nothing. Whatever is best for you is what you should do!
Are you Rob Boss, and where does a happy delay live? 😂
There’s a happy delay over here…and another little one of there. And look! There’s another happy little delay right here
I don't know... the Meris sounds too digital while the Valhalla sounds too digital. 😂. Just kidding.. two great reverbs. The Valhalla is amazing and free. I hope they can think about making a pedal version of their plugins. It would be a dream come true. Super video as usual!!! ❤
😆 😆 😆 brilliant! Yeah a Valhalla pedal would be awesome! Even more so if it were free as well!
I had the syntax but I could never get it to do 100 percent wet
I think there’s a way to do a wet out and dry out but I’d have to look at the manual to confirm
from 6mins on is where its at. for a guitar demo at least.
Why thank you!
