  • Making your own delicious Mango Chutney is easy. WATCH THIS VIDEO on how to make Mango Chutney and enjoy it with different Indian dishes. For my Dhal recipe check this video • Dhal Lentil Soup Recip...
A good Mango Chutney Recipe is sweet, spicy and full of flavor! This recipe is so easy you will never have to buy one again. It is so versatile you can add it just about anything.
    Makes approx. 4 Cups
    Ingredients
165ml (2/3 cup) white wine vinegar
(or alternatively 100ml of vinegar and 65ml of lemon juice)
    100g (1/2 cup) brown sugar
    1 onion, finely diced
    4 cloves garlic, peeled
    1 tbs fresh ginger
    4 mangoes, peeled and slice
    5 cardamom pods bruised (optional)
    3 cloves (optional)
    1 cinnamon stick (optional)
    Chilli to taste (optional)
    Directions
Prepare the mangos by chopping them into 1 1/2cm cubes
Chop the onions, finely chop or grate ginger and garlic and bruise the cardamom pods.
Add Vinegar and/or lemon to a saucepan with ginger, garlic, onions, spices and sugar, then bring to a simmer and leave for 30 minutes or until the liquid has reduced by half.
Next add the mangos and bring back to a simmer. Cook it for another 5 minutes, turn the heat off and let the Mango chutney cool, then place it in some sterilized jars.
This Mango chutney can be served with curries and rice and when spread on sandwiches it just lifts the sandwich to another level.
Make this delicious Mango chutney for a birthday present or Christmas gift and you will have an admirer for life!
Also share this recipe with your friends and family.
    ENJOY!

I used your chutney to make a curry chicken salad from a recipe that a friend gave. I thought the recipe just missed to deliver that special thing to awaken the taste buds. It was the missing ingredient. My friends loved it, even the friend that shared the recipe. Thank you. I shared your site with them.

Hi Mark, do you think I could make this with all lemon juice and no vinegar or half and half lemon and lime?

Hi Shoe Eck, great to hear that you are enjoying my videos!
The Tamarind will work great, just substitute the lemon juice with tamarind in the ingredient list in the description box.
    Happy cooking Mark.

When you leave it to simmer, do you stir occasionally or just let it sit the whole time?

Give it a stir occasionally but the lower the heat the less times you need to stir!

Balsamic vinegar has a strong taste and would overpower the taste of the chutney. Only use little mixed with white wine vinegar or just the latter. Cheers Mark

Enjoy the chutney! I was wondering how the Mangos up your way are doing. We didn't have a good season this year, but I caught a couple of ripe ones from our tree. Got about 2 jars worth of chutney. Sounds like you could feed the army with your harvest ;-)

onion and garlic belong in relishes and chutneys in Australia. if they are processed correctly they will technically last a long time but they won't last long once opened cuz you will eat them up .
