- Mango chutney forms the basis of any Indian meal for many people in the UK. It has become a long term tradition that a meal at a curry house always starts with popadoms and chutney's to get your tastebuds tingling with excitement about what is about to greet them.
Although it's not really a condiment that Indians would have with a meal as it would be deemed too sweet and we tend to have a more savoury mango achaar rather then a chutney with a meal, it still has it's merits. It's thick and syrupy consistency is a wonderful Anglo Indian hybrid that has earned its place in food history.
So here is my version, yes it's heavier on the chilli because for me the chilli, sweet and tangy balance is really important. If you prefer a sweeter version then you can increase the sugar content up to 250g and reduce the chillies too.
I hope you like it!
Check out the recipe on my website: www.harighotra.co.uk/mango-ch...
Ingredients:
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp kalonji seeds
8 cardamom pods, (you can use the seeds only and discard the husks)
3 cloves
5 garlic cloves, crushed
2.5cm piece of ginger peeled & grated
5-6 green mangoes ripe (approx. 250-300g each)
1 tsp red chilli flakes
1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp ginger powder
250ml cider vinegar
150-250g jaggery/brown sugar (I used 150g)

I loved it!.I am going to try it.
The best Indian chutney I ever made was lemons mixed with Fenugreek, salt, chilli and oil, fermented in my conservatory over months. The taste was absolutely amazing.
Sounds epic!!
but this is not your channel
Sounds more like atchar that you made. The favourite atchar is mango atchar, but lemon atchar is also great. Best English equivalent for atchar is pickles, though not totally correct.
WONDERFUL! 👌🥰
Thankyou. I will enjoy very much.
The Mango mise en place is very helpful.
Wow very nice mango chutney👌
Many thanks ,delicious
love you Hari! everything I tried to cook of your recipes was so tasty

Looks delicious, thank you
Give it a go!
Looks tasty
Nice and nutritious side dish
29/06/23 I have just finished your recipe with one adjustment. I used green tomatoes instead of Mango because my dear wife doesn't like mangoes. Hari it did work out perfectly. Thank you
I was looking for mango chutney at the store( a recipe required it). No luck. So I was looking for recipes to make it myself. Wow delicious!!! It is a new flavor for me. I will do it again. Thank you for make the video and explain all the process, really helpful.
This looks so yummy :) I really love Mango chutney, so I will try this, when I get my hands on some fruits. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your yummy, and easy to follow recipes. I really look forward to making it.😋🦋😋

@@HariGhotra Ok I definitely will😋😋
Hi Hari.. This is the second Christmas that I've made Cranberry and Apple Chutney following your recipe. It's Divine and very popular with my visitors. I just wanted to make a cranberry Chutney last year but with a bit of a kick.. It works so well, so thank you xxx
Omg just tried this......wow....absolutely lovely and easy to make.....I added an extra 🌶
Post a picture on the app!!
Going to try this! Love the video and thanks for the help! Sending good vibes from nashville
This is very similar to my recipe. Good to know I’m doing it right.
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Wow! I couldn't afford the mangos but have an abundance of warwickshire (yellow) plums in my garden so substitute them. What a winner, you would never know the difference. Spices are everything. Thank you for a great recipe. ❤
Wonderful to watch how you prepared this delicious mango chutney recipe. It's so easy to follow and everything is well explained. I must congratulate you on your natural teaching talent. Your passion for food culture is also coming through strongly. Thank you, Hari Ghotra, for a very enjoyable mango chutney food lesson. Greetings from Namibia. ♥
Of all the videos I've seen to make your own jams and chutneys, this is the 1 that has tipped me over the edge. I really enjoyed that, very informative and easy to follow. This is a must for the weekend. Thank you
Thank you - looking forward to seeing a picture of your chutney do post it on my app!
Looks very yummy. Will it stay for a year.
YUM
Thank you so much for recipe! Do the mangoes need to be ripe, or can you use them when they are not ripe and still hard?
This one is for ripe ones rather than the pickle type!
It’s looks yummy 😋 and again thank you 🙏 Waheguru Ji bless you always stay safe darlin 🧎🏼♀️🙏
Thank you 🙏🏽 stay safe too!
😍
I find that the easiest way to dice mango is to cut and slice the way Hari does and then scoop the pieces out with a spoon. This recipe looks delicious.
Yes, easier to use a spoon rather than a knife or a glass!
Does the type of mango make a difference apart from volume? Approximately how many grams or cups of mango do you end up using?
This looks delicious. Question. I am unclear on if we're supposed to use green mangoes or ripe mangoes? Thank you.
Ripeish ones for this not the small green ones used for pickle
This is a lovely recipe that works every time. I add a little orange if there's a celebration. Many thanks. |The Chicken Tikka Masala is also excellent. And the Jalfrezi if I'm in a hurry. The Keema recipe is so versatile.
I'd like to do this recipe but here in Brazil we have lots of mango friit, but not all the seeds you mixed on it. I like to have it with roasted chicken or pork chops. Nice recipe!
Superb video… how long can these keep in the fridge once you seal the jar directly after cooking it.. many thanks ..
Thanks for the recipe I will definitely try it. Just a note to my Arabic speakers out there who like me do not know what kalonji is, it is الحبة السوداء in Arabic
How long is the shelf life in the clipped jars?
Gosh you have all the time in the world. Are you using up ur you tube time?
Hi, can you send all the ingredients that you used please ?
no prosecco? Thank you for sharing.
😂
0:45 I was worried slightly until you cleared it up that mango pickle is just an Anglo-Indian-Bangladeshi restaurant thing. I also can't help but think that the store-bought Geeta's mango chutney is also about as good as it gets anyway.
Perhaps you could expand on the whole Indian pickle cuisine where souring is a preservative in warmer climes but little known in northern climes. Okay, I'm angling for a version of chicken pickle, something that I have tried and adore.
Ok I’ll add it to the list!!
Im from punjab and mango chutney is an everyday go to. Kids love it with parantha. To say that its an anglo Indian bangladeshi restaurant thing is not true. Every state in india have their versions of chutney’s and pickle’s. We mostly use raw mangoes
Chicken, mutton and fish pickle is also very popular in the north.
My grandpa used to make the best deer meat pickle 👌🏽
Does the mangoes have to be ripe?
Are you still making videos?
15 minutes of food prep, 9 of which is peeling mango!?
Mangos are so sweet, why add additional sugar?
Where did you get that huge chopping board from??
It was hand made for me - it’s pretty amazing right!
@@HariGhotra where can I get the same Hari?
It was a custom job from this guy, made from walnut.
www.dumponthehill.co.uk/products/boards/
Where is the written recipe please?
Can you swap the sugar for a similar quantity of honey?
I saw someone else use palm sugar, which has a similar consistency to honey , I’m sure it’d be delicious!
Add a teaspoon to tablespoon of Mango Chutney to Bombay Aloo before you add the potatoes. You're welcome .
Thanks for the tip

Need to fast forward the prep times show your spices In closeups
Thank you. You were too far from camera. You also need to speed up the steps.
Too slow, too much talking, took a long time to get going. Sorry
Just too long..
Why watch a video for 26 minutes that can be explained in 5 minutes? Ain't gonna happen.
Really too long. Don't need almost 9 minutes of dicing mango. Then zero view of the pan until the bitter end.
Too much of.talking.
Can cut down on.it.
I don't like the way you explain you are not clear.
2 minutes, still talking. Sorry girl your video is too long. Have to go.
Thanks for stopping by
Hari that's not the way to cut up a fresh mango. Please please you just use a peeler. Don't try and be a clever duck and try and bring ur chappy western ideas into this. Mango us tropical fruit.
