      @@IZONE_FAN The counterpick situation depends on circumstances and how things are going. If the map and enemy playstyle allows me to punish certain dps I can play DVA into Zarya as long as my team knows what they are doing. That being said... it can be easier to just switch to Ram or Winston. With Lucio/Kiri backline I can make Queen work a lot easier. Mercy Lw on the other hand... Healing isn't strong enough to keep a tank up through all the damage that is put out now so tanks are having to learn to play more carefully.
    HAAA! I never got healed enough to stand in the open for more than 2-3 seconds anyway so...
    I remember playing Rein a while ago and my support was like "Rein what are you doing? Go in there and swing. I'm pocketing you, you'll be fine. Quit playing scared." And so I swung my hammer roughly 1.25 times and fell over.

      Yaaaaaaa. Playing dive dva on a map that doesn't have a lot of rooms to zip in and out of like junkertown payload is rough. Buffing supports would break the game, idk what else they're gonna try aside from reducing dps passive for tanks exclusively OR maybe just make it 6v6 again. They're running out of options and tank is still miserable. Even if you play cover, if you step out of cover for more than 1 second you're dead.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 6 месяцев назад +8

      Yea and it truly never has been, this has been a low player misconception even since OW1 where people constantly focus on heals and think the frontline can live through facetank levels of damage. They can't They never could. Even with two tanks mitigating for each other this wasn't possible. You can brute force in short windows of time, but not in general. You can spike heal in certain moments, but not in general. You can't outheal raw damage of a frontline target that doesn't do anything to dodge or avoid incoming pressure.

    Its amazing to me people still dont understand the jiggle (strafing) mechanic behind cover. Coming from COD myself it comes very natural. What I mean by Jiggle, is when you're hiding behind cover just jiggle your character back and forth around the corner to get info. Or in a game like OW, its an easy way to stay behind cover and mitigate poke dmg, get info about the enemy teams position, and bait out their ammo and cooldowns etc. You can even take shots yourself each time you jiggle and peak. A lot of the time this is better than taking insane amounts of damage, and then just sitting behind a wall and healing up to full HP and then peaking again.

    • @WhereIsYourID
      @WhereIsYourID 6 месяцев назад +6

      Jiggling is just strafing, we just call it jiggling in comp COD because you're doing it behind cover

    • @ConspireTheMuse
      @ConspireTheMuse 6 месяцев назад +4

      Depends on the situation. Sometimes the enemy might think you've left the area entirely if you don't peak again (this only applies to flanks, not if you're coming up main) and that can give you an advantage if they've looked away in the time since.

    • @WhereIsYourID
      @WhereIsYourID 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@ConspireTheMuse You should be doing it 90% of the time if you're playing tank. That is literally how you play cover. You peak, use a CD or put some damage, hide, peak, repeat. And when you take damage you tuck yourself a little deeper behind cover and jiggle if you need to for info. If you're not doing this you are either standing in the wide open getting rolled or you're spending too much time behind cover giving up space and not getting a lot of info. (Not you personally just in general). I agree tho, timings are super important and playing cover in other ways like juking out your opponents to throw their awareness and timings off goes a long way. This is 100x more important in COD where you can almost map out in your head where each player is, and where they're traveling. And you can catch a timing to flank them, pinch them, or sneak by in general to rotate. Definitely applies to OW a lot and I do it all the time especially on DPS

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir 6 месяцев назад +85

    Biggest tip to anyone in low ranks, especially tank players: don't run at the enemy in a straight line, and don't gravitate towards the middle of the open.
    Try to hug corners more, move from cover to cover, and spend those 2-5 seconds extra by taking a slightly longer but safer and less predictable route to where you wanna go, rather than just mashing W/forward stick and seeing your health implode faster than a 3rd world economy hit by sanctions.
    You tank not by physically occupying space and soaking enemy damage, but rather by being a threat to anyone who dare enter the space that is within your convenience to reach. Wether you're in the open or hiding behind cover, doesn't change what space you control. It only changes how much pressure the enemy can conveniently apply to you without having to enter the space you control.
    If you can change these two simple factors, you never have to ever switch tanks again until probably plat/diamond - because right now your tank choice maybe affect 15% of your gameplay, however the WAY you play tanks is affecting your gameplay by 85%. Go for the low hanging fruit, the big number, high return on investment. Don't learn to counterswap, learn how to play without constantly feeding your way to the fight.

    Tank player experience unimaginable torture of having to rely on teammates switching.
    No joke this has been biggest problem for tank for the past 8 years. Used to be your flanking hog and now its your mercy+reaper. Its a bit better now than before but tank feel too reliant on team synergy. No easy solutions without causing lots of ripple effects on other roles. Maybe more tank choices will help alleviate it a bit
    Emogg gives good advice on dealing with it though. Sometimes you gotta be more passive and focus on aspects that bring wins but the game doesn't track like getting cooldowns out, controlling sight lines, etc. Sometimes you just cant make big plays on tanks outside of ult

    Just wanted to say that even if you do have burst healing from Ana, ideally you want your Ana to use her nade to purple enemies not to heal you. Also, just remember that whenever you require lots of healing it forces your supports to heal you rather than doing damage themselves. You really want your flex supports (Ana/Bap/Kiri etc) doing as much damage as possible and using their cooldowns to enable aggressive plays. It's always better to take as little damage as you can while still doing your job. You can get a whole extra dps hero worth of damage on your team just by playing cover and not forcing support cooldowns which allows your supports to focus damage. It's the easiest way to rank up on tank right now, learn to avoid taking unnecessary damage.

It happens more often when the enemy plays Hog, but still. I'm sure there are plenty of games where they are getting ounished, and I don't notice. But playing support, i really hate when people always go around corners, behind walls and die, it force me to reposition poorly and get killed. When you want to improve, it's part of positioning and game sense. You need to mind space and line of sight. You can go deep if you can survive on your own. Your supports can follow when you don't expose them to flanking enemies, if all are in from of you, you can go in. If you know some dps is on the side, people following you will get picked off. I guess especially in low ranks and when you rarely play support yourself, so get some benefit from watching that perspective occasionally. Playing healable will improve your results. @@Tailstraw_xD I think you missed the point of the original comment. they said tanks would learn so much by watching their replays from the support pov. not that they should constantly be turned around facing their team or something.
      and fwiw, taking one second to see if your team is "with" you. what this means will depend on your tank choice - sometimes they will be literally with you, other times you'll see tracer set up/ready to go in and your dps getting set up on high ground, etc). taking just one second to see if your team is ready to engage with you will go a long way to keep your aggression from turning into feeding.
      it's all about balance. part of learning tank is learning when and how to check on your teammates. this includes paying attention to the voice lines the characters themselves say, like when Moira says "I must recharge" or "I cannot heal you yet" because that probably means you need to take cover/shield and let your moira dps a little to get juice back or throw a damage orb for juice. just because you're on the front line doesn't mean there's no way for you to get really good information about what's going on behind you.
      and don't get me wrong, knowing what's going on doesn't mean dealing with the situation behind you is the right move. sometimes trying to help is the wrong move, but it's important to be aware that your supports are currently dealing with, for example, a hamster shaped problem because (1) you might need to go trade back lines because there may not be anything your hero can really do about the ball, (2) the enemy currently has no tank to protect the enemy squishies, (3) distracting the enemy supports or shielding off the healing can be enough to give your team the advantage they need to kill the ball who has committed to your backline
      if you want to be a good tank, you NEED to be aware of what your team is doing. you need to know when you need to look back at them and you need to know how to process all the sound cues to give you solid information while still dealing with what's in front of you. a good way to see where your team awareness is is by seeing what your supports see. maybe you have a tendency to go DEEP when your supports are still coming back from spawn. maybe you don't know where Ana's tend to set up so you don't know where you need to play in order to stay in their LOS. but you'll never know until you watch.

    From just the thumbnail suggestion, I'd say Sigma to block and eat as much of that as possible but if he's using everything to not get melted by the entire enemy arsenal then it feels like you just have to get a good or lucky pick to help break through.

    The fact different ranks need different playstyles hurts sometimes
    Certain high level skills fail to apply in earlier ranks, like in silver you playing corners as a tank isnt nearly as useful as just holding the W key and killing shit but it becomes the opposite later on
    Certain characters too, like Mauga and Lifeweaver. Both FANTASTIC early on, but they fall off very quickly around platinum
    Vice versa too, like Lucio becomes a lot more useful later on in ranks because people understand spacing and capturing advantages

    whenever i see a mauga, im reminded of the players that spam their damage stat off the enemy tanks. mauga is a tank for players who dont play tank. they have released a character where no other tank can contest his space at all, if hes on point, you cant be. if he chases you down like a pitbull, run like a mole. im not complaining at the stategy used to combat him, i just think hes a badly desgined tank.

      most ranks if the team sees the tank running from mauga E and bastion turret, they will instinctively hide too. Probably more likely to hide in this situation even than if you _asked_ them to use cover. Psychology is a powerful tool for winning games.

I mean if your going against orisa, then maybe go for supports and dps. But if its against mauga etc. Then you'll risk not having a rock to throw and soon die from not dazing the tank

    as support you need to keep the team alive, but how when you get 2 shot by a flanking dmg boosted phara that no one shoots cus they get shredded by bastion/mauga, you also cannot focus pharmercy, cus your whole team will by dead by the time you kill them, so you are in a 3v1 and just die

    Sp ive recently come back to the game and discovered this... Maui wannabe character and yeah it does seem a bit... um...
    Screwy with him. Sorta. Theres timings.
    Bith Bastion and Mauga have a specific timing with the bastion Tank mode and Mauga's Cardiac (E) skill. Mauga basically heals himself which puts less pressure on the healers in tow and allows the support roles to pick more agressive support types like Moira or something.
    Bastion + Mauga DPS will melt face if youre right up against it and theres certain toons for Tank that seem rather... hard countered...
    Monke is turned to mincemeat at the worst possible level. Its unbelievably bad for Winston. If he jumps in on Mauga or close to him, i will hit E and use both guns and melt his bum so fast that he looks like smooshed banana. And theres nothing Monke can do because even if he drop sheild, done matter, i charge/stun him, and im healing while blast him, so the barrier block heals from ym supports means little when im juicing up 270dps and a healthy chunk of that being converted to HP generation for me.
    Add bastion to the mix and even Angry Monke is nothing but a damage sponge thats turns to primate soup.
    Hog is not as bad but for me, is an ult feeder, as i do the same thing to him. Pulling me in is a mistake unless hos team is coordinated with him and they displace me from my group and into theirs.
    If theyre not coordinated, Hog heals, so do I, i get ult charge and so does he, but im better and melting face and distrupting others while at it, making me far more flexible when fighting on point.
    Dva is easy to. Once D Matrix is burned up, press E and blast away with bastion backing, its just not stoppable. The tanks that rely on being up close and personal to be a threat tend to melt the fastest.
    The exception is Rein, whos tough enough to actually outlast the E press on Mauga, but if youve got a bastion also bursting the Rein down with tank mode, its GG no RE for the Tin Can.
    It forces tanks to not be careless, but it is pretty odd. Mauga's heal is a big issue IMO. I dont think the dmg is an issue if it was possible to hurt him back but the fact i can continue tanking face while blasting and the bastion has no worry be because im covering for him so well with my big pectorals ... see thats the issue.
    Doom is hard countered. Monke os hard countered. Ball is hard counters. It aint good.
    But vs Orisa or something? I mean even Sig does ok for me to fight because when fought right, Sig has a way way way better tool kit to mitigate my E press + double minigun jizz.
    He can stun, barrier AND absorb, all of which will out last my E press and make me very vulnerable.
    Mauga is also really strong at poking. I ignite twerps all the time for them juicy crits and it will melt just as well at a distance. I sense a possible nerf might be needed there as well.
    Im just playing randoms, but to some one whos been off-line sincd OW2 came out? Mauga was easy as hell to play. A quick 1 point cap game and i still get a measely 20k+ dmg and 28 kills for a fast sweep.
    He's good. Maybe a bit... too good.

    For real, tanking is a miserable experience right now - all you do is take heat while the rest of the team fk around. As tank, I am literally getting hosed by 3-4 opposing players, so WHY is my team not getting picks? Add to that, if the opposing tank has a Mercy pocket that DPS don't deal with you might as well type "gg" and leave. Nothing worse that *finally* taking out the tank and she gets of a rez off RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR WHOLE TEAM. Opposing Mercy is the carry in so many games that playing becomes an unbalanced war of attrition. 80% of the time you take out Mercy, they will fold. Mauga+Bastion for me would be Zarya - get charge, hose them down, go after the rest of the team. When I have good games as a tank it's always when DPS are actually doing their job. Shitty DPS means tanking will suck for the whole match. I wish the devs ad stuck to the promise of no CC for DPS. That would balance the game out way better.

    As someone who plays Jq, Rein, and Sigma, on Gold 3 (plat 5 was my highest) make sure you use the suc when bastion is espcially using turret. If mauga pushes in then use your shield bc his bullets dont do much against them if he is tryna hit u. You can also disrupt his flow by using good ol R O C K
    Another important note. USE THE MAP! Playing against the two heroes its best to use your map for cover if ur shield or suck isnt doing much. Also make sure your team knows how to stay behind cover as well. Feel free to use rock on bastion as well if you dont have suc and need a way out without death.
    As for queen, Use knife especially in bastion for an easy pull for a kill. If ur team knows, they will help kill that mf. Mauga struggles to kill queen bc she isnt built like a freakin wall. Just make sure you strafe and disengage when you can.
    USE CART! this lil mf is like the saving grace, its such a good way to get cover or to train the enemy around for an easy solo pickin or at the very least a great way to contest. Also see if ur support will go ana.
