I'm going for it! FYI, whatever you choose and whatever your final word count, you are awesome! NaNo is just a fun tool to get motivated, but it by no means defines any of us as winners or losers. If you’re still in it to try to win it (or if you’ve already won), let’s have some fun here in the last week with our books!
I am watching this while eating popcorn and drinking wine. Nice to know I'm not the only one! I'm ahead of the NaNo word count, but behind on my goal I set for myself of 60k words in the month, and catching up seems daunting. I'm a new author, struggling through book 2 to make my deadline to my editor and also dealing with anxiety. This was the encouragement I needed. Thank you, and you've got this!
I am so impressed with all you are able to accomplish. My word count has been up and down. Two days ago I pushed myself hard to get to 40,000 words because I wanted to use my reward of meeting a friend for coffee and Wednesday was the only day she could go. We had a great time, but by the time I returned home I was sick. Sometimes pushing yourself too hard is not good for your body. Lesson learned. I hope you and your family have a fun and restful Thanksgiving!!!!!
So fun to watch! Honestly, I'm so impressed with what you've already accomplished this month. We've done the whole move from place to place thing while in between houses twice, and it's so stressful! Fun, yes. But we did it with two littles as well, and I know exactly what you mean about kiddos being off their routine and needing stability, etc. Super impressed you attempted NaNo at all during that, and blown away that you are going to go for the 50k. I'm cheering you on!!
Hi Sarra, I’m just blown away by all you are managing right now. I agree that even if you don’t “win” NaNo, you have definitely won! I heard there is a version of NaNo for children’s books. Do you know anything about that to point me in a direction? I appreciate it, and please know that all you do for the community is appreciated!
Ohhhh to have more than 5 hours of sleep everyday♡ 😆 my toddler (3 and a half) has decided he is either an owl or a vampire 😞 and I struggle to make him sleep at night so for over a month now I have barely been able to sleep, yesterday I managed 8 hours and I'm grateful I didn't woke up as a zombie as I've been doing lately. I also decided to rework my daily schedule and monthly/weekly plans and it only took me half a notebook doing lots of brain dumps and re arranging, but I think I'm done and can't wait to implement it on December as I have a few projects to help my 7th grader with. Big hugs to all you winners that I know won't give up and will rejoice in having created words, no matter the number.
That's so hard! We are just now getting back to a more normal sleep schedule after Evie joined our family and we thankfully can take turns if she has a bad night. During those hard sleep times I just try to remind myself this won't last forever. But It's so hard when you're going through it. I hope he starts sleeping soon!!
Please don't be discouraged, Sara. Even though you might not win NaNo this year, but please know that you have help so many writers (myself included) in the preparation of NaNo and getting the push that they need to brace themselves to participate. I would not have the courage to participate NaNo this year if it wasn't for your encouragement video last October and for that I am so thankful. You are the winner too!
I am not going to win, but after having taking two years off due to my mom dying, 3 moves, and just over all exaustion, but at least I got some writing done. I am planning for next year. Not sure how it will go, but gonna do my darndest. Blessed Thanksgiving to you and you're family!
You’re so inspiring, Sarra! I started listening to a goal oriented audiobook recommended by someone who is crushing it in my industry and I immediately felt anxious and overwhelmed. I know that what motivates that author is not what motivates me and the book is not going to work for me. It makes me feel like my dreams are too small but I don’t want to live under that kind of stress.
I am saving this video to watch again when I am feeling pressured to meet goals that may not be reasonable. Those are really good questions to ask myself.
Happy Thanksgiving. I'm heading to 40k by the end of the month. I feel it's doable for me with everything else going on and the number of days left, we have 4 (It's the 26th for me here). My issue is staying in the moment and not thinking about next month's writing goals until Tuesday when I have a writing session with my friend and we'll set December writing goals. It will depend on a lot of things and I just need to focus on this month's goal just a little longer. Good luck.
I'm sitting right under 25k. Like you the bug bit today. I wrote about 3k words earlier. I'mma go for it too. I like my story, but was struggling with the plot and subplot working together. I think I've nailed it down. Tonight I wanna try for another thousand. That will leave me about 4-5k per day. We can do this. I got you, boo. 😘
Happy to hear you:'ve rest, Fatigue not only kills creativity, but good vibes for me, and I believe good vibe somehow affects what I create. YES, love your idea to stay healthy and happy! I'm still around 27000w, but I'm still believe i'll hit the goal, but like you, I'll be happy even if I won't for I know I've try my best.
I somehow missed turning in a word count one day. Have no memory of doing this. Didn't get the badge for 21 days in a row and that just killed my motivation. I knew I wasn't going to get 50,000 words, because I don't need that many to finish up this project, but I really wanted those badges. LOL. I didn't write the next several days because I was salty about that badge.
I finally hit 25k the other day in my novel. To reach 50k by the 30th, I would need to write 4,066 words a day. I wish that was doable for me, but I know it isn't. So I'm just going to write as much as I can before then and call it a win even if I didn't "win". I love this story.
My goal for this Nano was 30,000. A framework of my novel, really. Last Wed I was a little bit over 9,000. Thursday I got the news my day job workplace is closing. Then news reached us my aunt had passed away. I drove home from work during the snowstorm here and it sounded like my muffler fell off my car. AHH!!! But this weekend will be a chance to get back to it. I hope
I started out as a rebel and had a goal for 30k because I know 50k is to much for me as a intuitive writer. But halfway I convinced myself that I needed 50k 🙄 and now I am burning out. I stopped been gaming and reading and doing the Christmas decorations. So now after 5 days of not writing I am going back to my 30k goal ❤️ so that means I need 3k of words. I can do that 😁 and I agree we are ALL WINNERS
Happy Thanksgiving! I am so tired. We hosted the family dinner. I wrote one sentence just so I could keep the chain going. Currently at 42K. Think I will finally be able to complete my first Nano. Excited to see your Goals planner. Will it be similar to your HB90 planner? Do you have any thoughts or opinions with Atticus, a new writing program? Thanks, Sarra! Barbara. :)
IKWYM about a challenge that excites and motivates instead of feeling like a burden. I still have 19k to go, which means I need to write 3k a day - a bit of stretch for me, but definitely doable (my maximum ever is 7.5k, which I managed on a couple of days for NaNo 2019). I just need to get a chunk of writing done in the mornings, instead of snuggling with my kitty and watching YT 😀
I’m here on day 24 and I still need about 6k a day every day from here on out. Not sure I’ll make it, especially since we are moving locations Sunday. But it will sure be fun to try right?

I need 36,250 words which is a little over 6k a day. Woo hoo!! I’ve also learned working with a preorder deadline isn’t good for mentally either.
I joined NaNo, but i never planed to hit the NaNo goal. Im a student working on my finalpaper, it would be too much. But i will hit 20K😊
It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN! Woohoo!

Yes! Self care for the win! Sometimes those lessons come hard and fast, but you have so got this. 🥰
You look and sound better as well! Glad that you havent given up.

Oh, I'm not sure about this! I will look into it and see what i can find for you!
Good for you taking time for what really counts, family and yourself, everything else is frosting! ;)

I LOVE your attitude and mindset in evaluating what to do. Excited to see what the last week of November holds!
I’m going for it! See you at the finish line.
You look super rested and glowing 🙂
Thank you! I feel so much better. Amazing what a few good days and getting my mind in the right place can do!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I hit 40k tonight. I really shocked myself since it was nearly 3k and I've had a slow Nano so far. Slow and steady works.
Thank you for this!

If you wrote that day you can go back in and add the update for that day.
Yes what Mary said! Go to the stats page and update with the appropriate date and it will give you the badge.

That's what I'm thinking! Why not try? And if we don't win, we at least got more words and had some fun.
