Wow, my latest update yet, but we are up packing for our journey to New Orleans tomorrow, and I managed to get it up! There might not be a Day 15 update, because we will be on the road quite a bit tomorrow and we are all exhausted! If I can't update tomorrow, I'll see you in two days, instead! Thank you again for watching and supporting this channel. It means the world to me! How are your words going?

I too am behind. I'm at 16,407. Like you, I'm loving my story, but stuff keeps getting in the way. Also I find myself letting time slip away too. I'm avoiding and I don't know why either. 😅 You are doing great with all you have on your plate! We'll get through this together. You can't give up yet either. Good luck with moving. I can't wait to see New Orleans. 😘

I'm always amazed that you can juggle NaNo and a daily vlog as well as everything else that's going on, so don't worry about skipping a day! I just passed 20k, so I'm not too far behind, but I have a busy couple of weeks ahead - I may need a holiday to recuperate from my holiday 🤣

I'm with you Sarra! My November start had a lot of things crop up that just pulled my attention away from writing, and now I need 3,100 words a day to make it. Still doable though, so I'll be cracking down for these last two weeks

I'm in the same boat, ugh.
I know I'll have more zero word days... so that means I need something like 3-4k words per day... I don't know if I'm going to win. It's a bummer.
I just started physical therapy and it really sucks. I know I'll feel better after a few weeks of this, but right now it's so hard to focus.
Hang in there. We're all rooting for you!

Great reminder that you don't need a huge chunk of time to get writing done. Just like you said, little pockets of time, 10, 15, 20 minutes is enough to focus and get words in.

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about the word count. You’ll have other NaNoWriMos to do in the future, you’ll never have a family experience like this again. Your last book will be there to write when you’re ready and have the time. But since you are doing your vlog, maybe have a goal of 25,000 total instead of 50,000. I love your videos. I think you have to see what’s most important to you right now and regarding that massive word goal, let yourself off the hook.

omgosh hun give yourself some slack ... just the fact that you are participating in NaNo at this juncture of your life is extremely ambitious!! Not to mention adding videos everyday...to me you are a superwoman ;) I think you need to pat yourself on the back, even getting the writing your are getting done during this tremendous life transition is incredible. Remember to be a good friend and mother to yourself. You are putting an incredible amount of pressure on yourself, lol my two cents from the outside looking in ;) Koodoos to you hun!! You do more in a week than most of us do in a year lol. A Canadian fan, hugs ;)

Take it easy on yourself. It seems like you, like me, can be tempted to procrastinate (or get caught up in the magical world of office & art supplies) but you have a really busy life. You have managed to write more books than 99.999% of people do in a lifetime, and I’m sure you will write many more. You don’t have to be on your game every day to be inspiring. You inspire us because you show openly that you are real. Just keep doing what you do , and let go of the pressure. Seeing you keep it real reminds us that we don’t have to be perfect authors to be real writers. It’s uplifting. Blessed Be.

The fondue dinner looked like so much fun! My parents and siblings enjoy doing something similar with a hot pot cooked at home with seafood, veggies, and misc meat. My niece came over yesterday and blew my writing day I had planned. So I sat down and one maybe two sentences (15 words total) so the “chain” of writing wasn’t broken. As much as Nano is a “fun” challenge to partake with everyone around the world, it can really screw with your head, if you fall behind. As someone else commented, I would worry less about the word count and enjoy this time traveling around with your family. I think that’s way more special and important. Safe travels until your next vlog! Barbara

First, pat yourself on the back for writing during this super busy time in your life. Second, thank you for your videos. Even if you think you're far behind, you inspire us. In fact, I haven't written one word in the last 6 days because of a difficult freelance work assignment.. When you said you want to make your writing a priority that resonated with me. I've put this freelance work that isn't worth my time or the money it pays take priority over my book and my family. I've written less than 5,000 words to date because I'm not a fast writer (I'm lucky if I get 400 words in 20-25 minutes lol). Be proud of those 600 words in 15 minutes. That's amazing. Based on this video, I've decided to make writing my book a priority.

I'm gradually falling behind, so I'm hoping to make up some ground this writing retreat weekend - even though I'm about to embark on a refurbishment of my home office 😅
I think momentum and inertia are so important - once you have a couple of zero word count days, it's so much harder to get going again, but even a short writing session can break that cycle of procrastination. I've been pushing myself to write every single day, even if - like Sarra - it's meant racing the clock to get a few hundred words in before midnight. Let's just keep going, even if we fall short of 50k!

Cleaning and writing sprints for the win!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I fully agree with doing writing sprints around domestic chores. I've started implementing that philosophy, and it's been a GAME-CHANGER! I get so much more work done around the house and on my work. The only time this isn't really feasible is during live streams, but then I'm chatting with others between writing sprints, so it works out.
You've got this. Have faith. 💙

  • @carriebartkowiak

Sarra are you folding the clothes "normally" (flat) for packing, or are you doing the "rolling" method? (I think it's a Japanese method of packing but not sure.) People who travel frequently swear by it, says it saves SO much room (or allows you to pack way more stuff in the same amount of room). Might be worth watching a few vids on it and give it a try.
Whatever that white drink with the chocolate (I think?) powder on top was, it looked good!
Please be gentle with yourself. Remember that you're not just pushing out books. You're creating a life that you love, and right now that means being present with and for Andrew and Evie. You get this chance to create with them the parent-child relationship that the little girl inside you still yearns for and has always *deserved*. That's SO much more important than an arbitrary monthly word count set by a board of directors in San Francisco.
    Gentle, gentle, gentle. {{{HUGS}}}

I know this seems small, but I'd really like the NaNo site had a minute entering system. I wrote X amount of words in Y minutes instead of trying to figure out when you started based on your end or what if you go a little over the timer so you can finish your thought. Or at least if you use their timer the time auto populates. Yes, it's petty to complain about but when Sara was like let say 11 something, I do that let's say this time to this time.
I don't know what this weekend will hold because my Granma passed on Sunday morning. She was 95 and she passed peacefully in her sleep so I'm trying to peaceful about it.
I am going to be in a car for 20 hours between Thursday night and Sunday night as I go to and from NY. I won't be driving the whole time if at all. I could have at least half of that for writing.
My sons don't travel well, they get car sick really bad, and so this will be the first time I'm away from them since they left the NICU. I'm trying to be okay with it on top of everything else.
I promised my sons I'd take them to the park and I have a lot of house cleaning to do before I go so I should get them ready to go out.

Don't worry, you will manage to make it. Unfortunately, I am in the procrastinating vibe going, since I am trying to improve my writing process and figure out what happens next in the next 6 chapters in my werewolf story.
Since I want to do some word vomit for the next 2 weeks, to catch up to 40k. Only still on 10k.
I worked out that I need 3500 words to do the next 2 weeks, give or take. I have off this week from work, so it gives me time to see how much I can do till Sunday - depending if they don't ask me to work.
Just remember, try not thinking about the day that fly by so fast. Just focus on what happens next in the story of your book in progress.
Don't let the bad vibe in, focus on being positive - which I am doing now, got 2 characters, 1 is called Silent Night.
It is a girl, but there is going to be a twist in her story in my werewolf book. And the other character is a guy, that I am trying to figure out what fake Nick name to call him, since Google search on fake names suck.
Your old plotting advice vlogs of 3 years are still awesome that I will be listening to soon to help me with his name, since I don't want to call him Mr Cupid - he isn't loveable.

gosh, I feel so stressed when I think of what you are doing! if its stressing me, what is it doing to you?! you are having an amazing adventure with your family and trying to run a business and write a book at the same time, all whilst on the road. Please cut yourself some slack and set a lower target? I hate to think that you are feeling stressed and guilty about what is essentially an external arbitrary deadline, and then you don't enjoy your trip as much as you should.
