I'm just so proud of myself, Sara. I worked my butt off on my story today. I started at 11:00Am this morning and didn't get finished until 3:30pm in th afternoon. I was able to gain a word count of 38,917. I already had a word count of 11,083, giving me a grand total of the 50,000 words I needed to win this writing challenge. I'm really proud of you for be able to keep such a positive attitude. Today's been a great day to write.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
@@nova9837 - The thing is that I already had a decent portion of the story planned out in my head. I also take the same position on story writing as the horror novelist Steven King. His method of storytelling is to place his characters in difficult situations and write to find out what happens. I do the same thing. I got through this challenge that quick because I threw caution to the wind with my plot. I allowed the difficult situation that I place my characters in and their individual responses to that situation to be the vehicle that told the story. Fun fact about Steven King is that he’s a straight up pantser. He outlines nothing before he writes his novels. I'm also a pantser. The only thing I make sure that I get done before writing a novel is to have all my character names, planet name and a summary of the story written out. You want to hear something funny? I'm only a quarter of the way done with my novel. I still have 125,000 words to go. This will be the fifth novel in my TimeScape Science Fiction series.
I am trying to get a paragraph done a day for my writing project. After getting my paragraph done I get my book out that I am currently reading. I am reading the Shadow Demon Saga right now which I am loving! Reading is my motivation to get my writing done for the day. I will be getting more of the Shadow Demon Saga books for the 4 weeks of downtime after my surgery.
I really loved seeing your post its and cards layout! I'm tactile too. I'm doing my 2nd Nano this year. My first one I got to 50k just freewheeling it, but didn't bring the story to a close. This Nano, my goal is to actually complete a story. I broke 10k yesterday! I'm trying to plot more this time. There's so much to learn, but it's exciting! Anyway, I'm enjoying your videos! Thank you for sharing your strategies!
Aww, enjoy those baby snuggles while you have them. Rip Van Winkle is really a true story. You think you’re merely taking a nap and wake up with everyone grown. No doubt the words will make it onto the page/screen. I was drooling seeing Barnes and Noble. 😍 A great place to work on plotting. The scent of coffee is supposed to boost productivity too. I did most, if not all of my writing for my graduate degree at Starbucks. 🤷🏻♀️ Hope you had an amazing day of writing today. I’m looking forward to the next NaNo Diaries vlog!
Am looking forward every evening after writing for your video. Love your books, your personality, your filming. The filming is on a high quality, all the B-roll, your craft Tipps aso are just great!.
Been fun following. I started the month off sick. I am still hoping to write my 50k somehow. Very inspiring to see your journey as always. I couldn’t imagine taking time to vlog on top of it. I love seeing the process. 💗 You got this girl!! You really are an amazing writer. I know it’s because you care so much. I’m glad you’re not on a time crunch. Pressure, but not too much. OMG and the moving. I’d be crazy. Happy! Happy writing!!! 💖
I like the idea of using sticky notes on a white board for plotting out a story. It's kind of like a storyboard. Maybe I'll do something similar to plot out my book series, but with my own personal plotting method. I use scrivener for my series bible, but I'm a visual-hands on-person too when it comes to plotting, and especially for bigger projects. Breaking it down makes it less overwhelming...lol. I've actually written the first drafts of the first two books of my trilogy series. Hopefully, I'll figure out how to plot out everything for my longer spin-off series, which I've struggled with for years.
Love watching your daily NANOWRIMO journey. You have put the motivation back in me ... to write again. Thank you. Also, I saw in the video that your next stop is Destin. I'm going to take the opportunity to brag about my small little beach town... just about 30 minutes away from Destin. It's Navarre Beach. It would be great to take your husband and kids to see and walk down the longest pier in Florida. Also, the awesome view of the beach and the beauty that comes with it.
I am just aiming for 50 K words. Good, bad, ugly, telling myself the story draft 0. I feel I am doing that and am pleased with that. Your plotting helps me have ah ha moments that I am trying to implement. I am amazed how much you get done. Even though it has got to take away from your writing I appreciate you bringing us along on your Nanowrimo journey. It is inspational.
Thanks for explaining your notecards and your poster board! Quite frankly, inciting event, point of no return, and other writing terminology never clicked in my head no matter how many (writing) books I’ve read or seen others plot. BUT the way you described it for your poster board made a lot of sense to me! I think I mentioned in one of your other videos that my “outline” are chapter ideas. Wrote 1,134 words today. Almost 16,000 so far. You can do it, too!
Sarra - this is So helpful! Seeing how you utilize notes and reminders from craft books and mirror them to the actual scenes you need to write is such a great process! I'm totally stealing this. I have so many parts of Dixon's GMC and Weiland's Outlining your Novel highlighted on my kindle that I now know how to put it into action. Thanks!!!
That was so helpful , Sarra. I will head over to amazon and order some notecards to get my plot finally done in the next two days. I already have 21000 words done, but I still feel so helpless without my plot. ( I mentionened in the commentssection of one of your other nanodiaries videos, that I had no preppingtime before starting nanowrimo...) Thanks for the video, it gave me really a lot of motivation.
I'm doing mine a bit differently, transcribing a series of interviews as a rough draft and counting those words toward NaNoWriMo. Unfortunately, I didn't actually start until day 4 but have almost 6,000 words. No words today and tomorrow due to work deadlines but I'm not gonna worry about it. You've got this, Sarra! Everything will turn out exactly as it should.
Wow! You call the divisions quadrants. OKay. I divide my work into Acts. For the Novel Act One 120 pages; Act Two part I 300 pages; Act Two part II 300 pages; and Act Three 80 pages!! I am so inspired by your commitment and organization. I don't know why I feel F E A R while I create? I write, not to procrastinate. Procrastination is the enemy to creativity. Then I see you soaring... I am inspired. Yes I do soar when I don't stress over my work. I am learning to spread my wings and fly, fly like you! Thanks so much for your videos! One more thing. "What camera are you using to video record your RUclips VLOGS/videos?"
I call them acts, too! Just was referring to the structure of the board when I used the word quadrant! Thank you for the encouragement! I am using a mix of cameras, but the main one I use for vlogging is the DJI Pocket 2 ! It's small and versatile!
It was a gift from my son, but they sell them on Amazon. It's called a Delfonics Utility Pouch. I think I have the Medium sized one. It fits so many things!
I'm currently reading Vengeful Darkness. While you were showing your work I was wondering if I needed to stick my fingers in my ears and start singing "la la la la." 😄
I'm not giving up! Hope you enjoy this Day 6 video. Keep me updated on your words so far! I am living for these comments!
