Awesome job! Your hair is gorgeous! I just went to my stylist on today and got a haircut, but she's really afraid of cutting, so when I got home I did a little more cutting. She layered it well, but around my bang area she didn't cut much to give me the shape I wanted, so I did it, then washed and deep conditioned and I'm very satisfied! Thanks for sharing!

So, I have curly hair but I always wear it staight...so eventually my hair became damaged and I had those straight pieces that I hate which made my curly hair disappear and I had to use heat more...and then I was done with using heat and damaging my hair because I used to have really long hair and I had to cut it off since it was just becoming more and more thin and I wanted my long hair back!! So...4 months ago I decided to begin my journey. I was so determinant and I am so proud to say I got my curls back!! At first my hair would look like shit but as time passed by, it looked healthier and the curls looked more beautiful!
As I said before, my hair was heat damaged so I had those layers that I didn't cut, yet my hair was falling out or more like breaking off... I am OK with what my hair looks like now but I want it to look more even and healthier and all. I still wear my hair straight some times so I was wondering if this method will effect what my straight hair looks like.

I always cut curl by curl right after washing! Someone told me it was unhealthy but works for me! Thumbs up!!
I home-cut my hair as well. I have hip+ length wavy/curly (on the brink of curly) and I use the compact cut method for layering. It's from the book, "Haircutting for dummies". You basically just make a ponytail on the forehead and snip a bit off; tadaa: layers. Love this method, but I have very thick, very long hair. If your hair is shorter than waist or even bra strap, I wouldn't recommend this method or you might end up with layers that are way too short. I've been doing this for at least 5+ years.

I have trust issues as well. I was suppose to get my ends clipped twice and my stylist cut my hair off. I decided to do it myself. Best decision I ever made.
I once took my daughter to the salon to get her hair cut and donate it. she had waist length hair at the time and there really wasn't an issue with the amount they were supposed to cut. well she put the bands on and then asked if that length was ok and was holding it, then she cut at least 3-4 inches above where she asked if it was ok. not only that she cut her hair so uneven! I was looking for a video on a Deva cut and I watched this one but it doesn't look like the cut was made at the bottom of the C. It wasn't mentioned or maybe I missed it. That's important to mention cause when you cut the curl in the direction that goes back into the hair they'll clump together and you'll have some undefined curls and yucky layers.

I kept wondering my my hair looked weird on the side...my bangs were longer in the middle than on the side..so i trimmed it myself. It looks alot better..just waiting to see how my twist out will turn out

My question is how did you cut your bang? Did you part your hair on the side and then cut it or did u cut your bang evenly centered and then style it to the side?
+crzy4curlz it was kind of parted to the side.. I really only cut the part that was damaged. It was parted on the side but they were pulled to the front. If that makes sense.

I just washed and deep conditioned my hair last night. If I want to try to shape my hair, should I wash it again? Is it easier to cut it that way?
+Julian Tate Hey! You just want to make sure you’re style is fresh. So you want it styled with product and as defined as possible. First day hair is ideal. As long as your curls are defined you should be good! 😊
What if you wash your hair and its curly but when its dry and frizzy?
Dryness and frizz usually go hand in hand. So I would start off by deep conditioning weekly and then using a leave in conditioner/moisturizing products, especially in the frizzier areas. And then seal everything with an oil that works for your hair type.
