  • When I was 20 years old, I moved to a new city all by myself. I really wanted a shot at a new life and the opportunity finally came up. This is something that I have personally done and I want to share some pointers to make your move easier and some mistakes to avoid along the way.
    So if you want to know how to move to move away on your own, Here Are My Tips:
    1. Prepare in advance a game plan, saving money, what you will do when you first get there, plan your route and how you will actually get there and what you will take with you
    2. Make the move and get yourself setup. Try to bring a friend for emotional support and to not be completely alone from the very beginning.
    3. Need to get a job and income as quickly as possible
    4. Need a place to live, preferably as close to your work as possible, if you don't know where you will be working this is a tough one. Might want to stay in hotel or airbnb at first
    5. Coping - Missing home and family can be tough, need to stay busy, but should be anyhow looking for work and actually working will keep you busy. I worked a lot, I went to the gym a lot and the beach and I also met my future girlfriend and we became best friends instantly
    6. Need to make new friends and feel a sense of belonging in the new place asap
    7. Try it out for at least 6 months, don't give up too soon
    Mistakes to Avoid. I made all of these mistakes below, so try to learn from mine and you will have a smoother transition than I did.
    1. If you are moving from the sticks to a big city, make sure you are not moving with a stick shift car….
    2. Having too great of expectations. I had dreams of modeling and getting paid a lot of money to do it, an eventually traveling and seeing the world like that, but none of that actually happened.
    3. Not having enough money, this one is hard because its tough to know exactly how much money you will need but the more you have the better.
    4. Renting a place that is too expensive
    5. Not researching the culture ahead of time. When i moved here, I had no idea I would be in the minority of the population and that most people here actually speak Spanish

    Toughest thing about driving is cost of hotels on the way if its a long drive 2nd is the dreaded 3 week wait for the pay check Then like you said not knowing the area you can go to bestnighborhood maps shows rents and medium income in those areas so you can see if the area is nice or low end and that tells you how bad crime is

    I literally searched for this video 🤣💀but this is so relatable 😭I'm 21, also from Illinos (Chicago) and this city has a LOT to offer and I know I could make it work here for whatever I want but I'm tired of seeing the same things and the same people. A vacation just won't do and I feel it in my heart to relocate. I don't want to just "make it work" I want to change my surroundings and follow my passions. I've been contemplating for a while where I should move. I was thinking Texas, California, Florida, Colorado, but maybe I should just go out on a limb and jump at what feels right and that's Miami. These videos are SUPER helpful, thanks for sharing your experience.

      @@lovePaula07 just got back from a short trip to see the area. Loved it, but I don’t think I got to drive faster than 45 the entire time I was there. Also found myself having to shit with no public bathrooms for miles in any direction. I forget that about the eastern States. No personal space and no accommodations for anyone! Maybe I’ll stay in the west where things nice and big and new

    I’m currently in Toronto and I’m 19 looking to move to Vancouver, just went on vacation alone there for a week and I loved it. Need to find work there before I make the move, my girlfriend moved there from Toronto in august so I can stay with her and her mom for the first month. I’m in a toxic family household and it’s always keeping me back in trying to make the move in the next couple months hopefully I can do it. I loved your tips thank you!

    Really appreciate all these informative videos Michael! I'm currently 19 and I've been saving up to move out of West Virginia for the last two years now. I've been working a part-time job for the last three years to pay for college (just a certificate program, not a degree.) I was originally thinking the Oregon coast but after watching your videos and doing research on rent costs, job opportunities, etc, (and watching a lot of Miami Vice 😂), it's clear that Florida is the smarter option. Are there any beaches around the southern end of Florida that you would recommend other than Miami Beach?

    • @MichaelBordenaro
      @MichaelBordenaro  3 года назад +4

      That's awesome Cody, lots of respect for a young guy like yourself thinking of your future and doing something about it. That was me 13 years ago.👍 Miami Beach is about as far south as the beach goes here but you can check out Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood Beach those are some cool spots for younger guys that you might like

    It's amazing to move on your own you really grow so much!! Its so awesome you just went for it and found your niche.haha it's TRUE people always have higher expectations than what happens in reality. The #1 language is Espanol which is crazy because even Hispanics themselves get pissed at the Hispanics who refused to speak English and wish they'd speak English. Whats your take on this do you think it's just sheer stubbornness or arrogance and shunning the American way of life? I find Miami beach is a bit easier to network and make friends vs Miami mainland where I've lived mainly because its predominantly Spanish speaking solomente off the beach. I only lived on Sobe for 3 months before and lived right next to Club SET at Decoplage lol it was gorgeous but I found I was battling tourists every day and didnt like the valet parking. Grew up in small town Iowa and moved countless times entirely my own to new cities and even new countries ..def takes getting out of your familiar comfort zone..Now at 29 have a lot of friends from HS back in Omaha who talk to me now and regret not having lived in another city outside our home city.

    • @MichaelBordenaro
      @MichaelBordenaro  3 года назад +3

      I Don't regret meeting the move one bit. The language barrier exist everywhere in Miami and can be very annoying. But for the most part, a lot of people I need to on the regular speak English so that's good. I think it's like that mainly out of accommodation since so many people here speak Spanish it makes it easier for people not to learn English because they don't have to. South Beach is nice to visit but a little nuts for me that's why I prefer living in North Beach
