Same, I've always lived in a small town but I'm moving to LA in a few years and I'm TERRIFIED to say the least. I'm going to drive and I've never really been away from family and friends but I'm also anthropophobic (fear of people, and it's not like sonething ppl relate to bc they say they do but they don't understand the severity of it) so like you can imagine the struggle. I don't plan on having roommates or pets so I'll be by myself and ill be working for myself with a monthly salary of 4k so I'll have to find a cheap but safe apartment (I've never lived in an apartment so I have no idea how the mail and everything works)
I lost my dad in Feb, turned 30 in March so emotionally, I'm a bit fragile but there's this big push for me to move to a new city as in the next month! Your video is very inspiring! Thank you! I'm from South Africa 🇿🇦
I’m moving to a new city 3 hours away from home. Super nervous. But I’m making the most money I’ve ever made, I know no one in the new city, I’ve been able to find a place to stay with a roommate for now. But regardless, I’m so so so scared. But these are the moments that I’ve prayed for. And I can’t let the fear hold me back. No matter what my emotions tell me. Cmon universe, lead the way!
20 looking to get out in the world and this video makes me feel a lot better about moving to a new state with no connections. In the current state I’m in I almost feel trapped and lost trying to find my purpose in life. Hopefully this new beginning brings happiness and new opportunities.
Moved from Dallas / Ft. Worth metroplex and have not missed the over population from thousands of immigrants flooding in daily, insane gridlock traffic, crime or drugs. Feels so good to slow down, relax and enjoy life for the first time in 30 years. In the metroplex it was always a hectic rush with another car always 6 inches off your bumper. Stress was the norm for the day and finally I had enough and told my friends "I'm outta here, moving to a small farm community Mayberry type town where the pace is slow and people are friendlier" They were like "You'll never do it" 4 months later my house was sold, quit my job, had a garage sale getting rid of everything I didn't need or use, packed up and never looked back. I now ride a Redline Proline 26" with Bullseye components year 'round. Great cardio and zero maintenance, insurance, gas etc. Best decision I ever made!! 🙂 You cannot put a price on your mental well being and peace of mind which I now embrace and enjoy. Now I control the pace of my day, my work schedule and finally am able to spend time with God, my wife, my cat 'Lil and guitar collection on a daily basis! Don't wait till you're 49 to make a change like I did. I thought I had to stay in the city and make money, money, money which looking back did nothing but force me to spend my life at work, sitting in traffic or sleeping so I could buy a new house, cars, motorcycles and rooms full of stuff I could show off, but rarely used.

I'm an 18 year old freshly out out of high school and have saved up about $1400. Planning on moving to NYC in a month only taking my back pack with some clothes and water. I'm going by Greyhound it will be a 46hr ride!😬.I don't know a soul in NYC and really have no plan, I'm pretty scared but excited. Everyone is calling me crazy but I feel like this journey is well needed for me as I tend to take for granted the thing's I have such as food, shelter and family. Being 1700 miles away will be quite a challenge but hopefully will make be a better person as my journey continues.🗽🌆🏙️....oh btw any extra tips or advice 🤷🏽♂️ 😅
Lg, I'm really excited for you. You will face unforeseen challenges, but simply remain focused on the process and do your best. Things will work out exactly as they're supposed to. Feel free to reach out to me if you think there's anything I can do to help out.
@fgh It's been a wild ride.😂 Coming from a small city in the panhandle of Texas to a mega city like new York can be overwhelming at first but I adapted to the environment fairly quick. I'd say I got used to NY's lifestyle in about 2 weeks. I have 2 jobs and at first I stayed at a shelter for about a week, until I found a place on Craigslist.😅 I now live in an apartment with 5 other guys but signed no lease as I didn't want to commit to NY just yet. I will be leaving NY in 2 months though to go back to Texas to get my associates at the local community college. But will hopefully transfer to NYU after I'm done and come back to New York as I really do love it here and kinda consider myself a New Yorker now 🗽❤️...Plus I'd think the NYU admissions officer would like my essay about my whole adventure into living in NY as a broke 18 year old kid who was able to survive here and not die 😂💀... hopefully I get accepted to NYU pray for me. 🙏🏽🙌🏽
Lg Marquez crazy. I hope you make it. I never really enjoyed New York City enough where I want to live there. It’s beautiful and awesome and so much to do but I hate the cold and knew I wanted to leave. You got balls though. I’m 30 and I haven’t left my state yet until I felt secure of going over to where I want to go. I’m getting a job there soon so I’m excited.
I’m doing this exact thing in Seattle right now. Came out here to get residency so I can apply to a grad program at UW. I’m sleeping on a bunk bed in a hostel-style Airbnb while I find a job and a place to live. I’ve never lived in a city this big. Just getting around is harder than what I’m used to. I don’t even know if I’ll get into this program or keep up at the jobs I’m applying to, I’m so outside my comfort zone. I know it will be good for me to at least try even if it doesn’t work out but damn… this is some of the hardest shit I’ve ever done. What makes it even harder is I met someone in my hometown days before I left and we’re already talking about how we we feel about long distance relationships bc neither of us have felt a connection like that in ages. It’s all making me want to go back so bad, but I don’t think I’d ever forgive myself for giving up. There’s nothing there for me in that small rural town except some guy I’ve known for a week. Anyway sorry to ramble. I appreciate your video, it helps knowing other people have done this stuff too and gotten through it.
I'll be moving to Florida in 4 days. Super excited about this life experience I'll be having in my journey in life. I always dreamed of moving to a different place and just seeing what life has to offer. Best of luck to everyone out there wanting to move out on their own and hope you are successful at everything you do in your life.
It's great to see how a person can grow just by reflecting on the course of their own lives & learning from it. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective, keep doing that please, you don't know who you're helping.
I’ve been feeling lost for a good minute now and I haven’t been able to figure out what it is. Recently had the urge to just get up and go to a new state and start a new life, this video encouraged me to do that. Thanks man!
So extremely relatable! I feel the same and had a push to move. I'm going to just do it in the next few months. Really nervous but excited. Hope things are going well for you!
This video was incredibly helpful. I'll be moving to a new city at the end of the year, and I'm terrified. Your outlook has made sense and is super helpful. Thank you.
Elaina Islas Elaina, thanks for commenting. Sending you good vibes in regards to your move. I’m sure it’ll go smoothly and you’ll be great. Just trust yourself and enjoy the journey! Take care :)
Ricardo, thanks a lot for watching and leaving the kind comment. It's meaningful to me that you took the time to hear a bit about my journey; I hope it was helpful in some way! Take care.
dude, underrated video. More people need to see this. So much valuable lessons. THANK YOU so much for doing this. Amazing video. Appreciate your honesty. Bless you.
Tyler - this is honestly one of the best videos I’ve ever watched on RUclips. You’re incredibly snd deeply thoughtful and paced, and really got me thinking. Thank you for putting out such meaningful and thought-provoking content!
Robert! Thanks for the heartfelt reply. Can I ask you something? How'd you find this video? I ask because, I have an underlying interest in creating more content, but I have trouble defining the best way for me to help people. People normally find this video via the Search function. How'd you end up here? Your answer might provide some insights into what type of content I should continue to make.
@@tylerjkeenan - glad to help! I believe I found this video via searching with terms around moving to a new city alone conversations! I live in Seattle, so when I noticed your actual location for the video was here, it caught my interest further! Not sure how helpful this is, but don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions! -Bob
I’m a retired Career Counselor. This is an outstanding video! I hope a lot of college seniors and recent graduates view this video and ponder your advice. I wish you continued success along your life’s journey.
Thank you for a concise and clear message to viewers like me. Your comments and thoughts are very appreciated, the lessons you mentioned with your challenges and successes are very helpful. To embrace and challenge yourself in current situations, and not be too comfortable makes a whole lot of sense, especially the only thing that does not change is change it self. Many thanks!
You're very articulate and self-aware. You would be great in a career related to communications. It was interesting and helpful to hear your thoughts. Best of luck on your journey :)
9:19 Very true! I'm from Toronto born and raised and I have always been thinking about moving to Texas one day since I was a kid, I'm now 25 and my life is in a position where that could be possible soon. Today I made my mind up finally and give myself a year to save up and get everything in order and make that move all alone!
Get it done! You'll find a lot of Canadians may give you grief for this goal but you live for yourself. You won't regret the experience but your friends will be stuck on the 401 and running the hamster wheel of life. Best of luck!
Thank you for this. Seattle is also my next step but I’m scared. The urge to get there is getting stronger and stronger and I can’t ignore it any longer.
I came across this video 3 weeks before my move across the country to Boston after graduating college. That you for sharing! This gave me some much confidence. Time to shed my fear and take control of my life!
Damn dude this was an unexpectedly good video. I can tell you’re a writer. Awesome format, going through apartment by apartment, with each lesson learned there. You do seem a little uptight and not relaxed but that sorta adds to the honesty of the video. It’s cool to see perspective from someone who’s an adult introvert and not a rich, famous, beautiful RUclipsr. Some of the lessons you talked about like realizing your TRUE priorities vs what you think you wanted are really hitting home. I think you’d have an audience if you made regular content.
This really resonated with me despite the video being 2 years old. I’m currently going through a breakup that’s forcing me to engage as we lived together. I’m moving to a new city with family, but it still feels as difficult as you had described. I’m realizing the stuff you had realized at the time and thank you for your time and experience.
Love the setup of actually traveling to key locations that made your story. Also love the key about realizing what you ACTUALLY value. Best relocation video I have seen.
You picked a perfect city for you. Seattle has that kind of vibe and I’m sure you will grow there and be happy as you continue the journey of your life. Keep that hunger of writing alive. Read all kinds of books, different authors, Mailer, Vidal, Hemingway, Vonnegut. Get a wider view point of all styles and concepts. This helps you develop your style of writing. Certainly your life experiences will only enhance your writing. I like what you said about, and I’m paraphrasing, it’s good to be content by having all the comforts but don’t get too comfortable to where you loose your edge. David Bowie once said, “Never play to the gallery. It’s terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfill other people’s expectations because you generally produce your worst work by doing that. If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not in the right area. Always go a little further into the water, go a little be out of your depth. When you don’t feel like your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.” Take care brother!
Excellent video ! Former seattle king county resident just moved away to eastern Washington .Thanks for this important thoughtful presentation.Peace from Bree Jet city woman49 Take care
I appreciate you for making this, im turning 20 in april and still live with my mom and shes been telling me its time to move out. And ive said i know and understand and even have money saved up but i want to move states, i dont wanna live in my home town and this video really opened my eyes about that, you know change is necessary especially for ones self, i know that wasnt your exact point but its my take away. So thank you🙏🏽
Thanks for the comment. I’m excited for you! Change comes with challenge, but it’s the price for growth. If you don’t mind, once you move and get settled, come back and let me know how things are going! Best of luck to you. 👍🏻
I know it's an old one, but thank you so much for this! I've had the urge to move to a new city for almost a year now and among all the reasons why not, my soul just says I have to go. It was nice to see one of these that focuses on the emotional part of navigating this kind of journey.
Amazing video, I am in love!!! This is exactly what I neeed to see. Thank you !!! After 9 years working as an enineer in Germany, I realised this is not serving my needs anymore, as you said it nicely...Or it is just "midlife crises" since I am 40. My biggest concern is however, how in the world am I going to tell to my parents that I quit my job, am moving in October to Italy, and in the summer I want to work as a cook on the ship. This is a big challenge for me since I can cook 3 meals, but I am ready for it!!! I hear their voices in my head, which I internailzed "why now? why you want to travel, learn a new language, ...I hear my excuses "but situation is never good, there is allways some crisis" but excuses for what???. I moved from Croatia to Germany before 12 years. Learning new language, culture, puting into question what you thought is "normal" is just priceless and hard in the moments not to forget. now I want to move to Italy, to live by the sea, just to prove to myself that I can get depressed anywhere... In two weeks will be back home to Croatia, to spend 3 weeks summer holidays with family, I see it as family retreat...All those questions: when are you going to get married, what is with kids, are you buying a property, a house, where is a man, and so on.. But at the end I know if I survive family holidays I can do anything :) Thank you from my heart for uploading this video
Amazing video! Great job giving a clear and nice point of view of all your experience in those times. Really cool to be able to save all those lessons in video. Good job!
Wow thank you. I have been feeling imbalanced lately. Well i couldn't put how I felt into the actual words. But now i know that my feelings and actions and values all need to be reevaluated. Thank you
Love this video! As someone who grew up in Seattle and am now moving around a lot, it's interesting to see you discover my city while I learn from your lessons for the ones I'm in now! :)
Hi. Thanks for this incredibly honest video. It helped me realize that maybe this extreme discomfort I've been experiencing for a while now is the universe forcing me to engage and not to settle for good enough. This is after trying almost everything under the sun to make my situation bearable with no sucess. You just gave me a light bulb moment. Keep doing what your doing someone out there needs to hear it. Thanks again.
I’m listening to this in the fall of 2024 as I moved to a new city so it came up and it’s excellent ! You communicate in such an insightful way, it’s deep and very helpful, thank you 🙏
Mental health and financial health! Same here, both are a huge priority right now, and Seattle’s the city I’m coming to! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, lots of valuable information here.
I'm glad you posted this, especially from the perspective of an introvert. I myself have had too many bad things happen to me where I live (2 women in a row treating me bad is one example) and I feel caged up where I'm living now, so I'm looking to break out if this cage and move from England to Northern Ireland, tho it'll be next year once coronavirus has settled down. I just feel like sometimes you have to grab the bull by the horns, I can either stay here and be miserable or move across the country and give it try
Yes, yes, yes!!! Totally seconding prioritizing your mental health! I thought my mental health was a result of my situation, so I moved out to Seattle 5 yrs ago thinking everything would 100% improve. Well, yeah, those five years were a waste, lol, because things never improved! I didn’t start seeking therapy until about 1.5 years ago and it wasn’t until then that I became aware of myself (turns out I had untreated anxiety) and what held me back. I can validate so much of this video cuz I know what’s it’s like to not prioritize yourself first. If I had, I would have had a better experience. That said, moving to a new city to start again “right” this time, God willing. 😁
This is dope! I’m 52 made a move to another state…. 1st time with roommates. I’m still trying to get used to this… I’m a introvert myself and I value my space ,quietness, peace… exploring this beautiful state of Rhode Island.
Lovely video, many thanks for sharing it. It's quite inspirational. I recently relocated from Kerala to the UK. This is a major source of inspiration for me. Thank you so much once more.
I just got into a music academy in Norway, and I’ve lived in Cali my whole life so at 18 now I’ll be moving to a completely different country, new language, new people, new school
I went through the same journey, my mental health strengthened my finances suffered. I realized how strong I am. I am rebuilding financial I am in a good space now financially, emotionally, spiritual, physically. The was I see life now is totally different.
Appreciate you commenting and sharing your story, Taylor. It’s true: going through an experience like this can truly show us what we are capable of. Congrats on what sounds like a challenging but fruitful personal journey. Cheers!
I typed in the search bar “homesick in a new city” and this was the first video that came up. I’m currently experiencing what you described once getting a room after the hostile, space has opened up for my mind to have feelings come up now that I finally have a somewhat stable room to live in. I love my hometown so much still, but staying behind letting the opportunity for something new go would have driven me insane, wondering. Even if I continue to feel this new place isn’t as good as home, I had to experience it to know that for sure. But while I’m here I need to step up to the situation and make sure I take full advantage and truly do my best to make a life here, even if it’s ultimately temporary.
You made valid points in this video, which have caused me to self reflect on needs and interests to align with values and goals. Thank you for sharing.
hey man, I know this is an old video but it really resonates with me. I moved to Seattle from the northeast recently with my ex girlfriend and we quickly got comfortable here, and then for various reasons we amicably broke up. that was a little more than a month ago and now I find myself spiraling back and forth between staying in Seattle, which I love, or running away to go back home to be back in my old comfort zone. I have a sweet job out here but it's been hard for me to feel fulfilled with all the back and forth going on in my mind, as well as all the feelings of loneliness. This video has inspired me to stick it out and to also see a therapist. Just wanted to say thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing, my friend. Break ups are definitely pivotal moments and I can relate to your urge to flee. I’m glad that this video resonated with you. If you’re open to hearing more of my perspective, I have two videos that shed light on how I’ve come back from loneliness and/or depression. One is called “How to make the greatest comeback of your life” and the other is “Make friends in a new city without being extroverted”. It sounds to me like you might have an opportunity to start a brand new chapter out in Seattle… best of luck with that endeavor! Thanks again for watching and sharing your story.
I’m getting ready to move to Oregon from California to be closer to my girlfriend and to start a new life. Just applied for a job today, have a place set to stay. I’m just so nervous I have never done something like this.
It's fine if you personally want to move to Oregon but please ask yourself this question before you move, "Will I still want to live in Oregon if me and my girlfriend break up?"
Thanks for the motivation and advice. I am born and raised in Tampa, FL and lived in the sunshine state my entire life. Just graduated from UCF in Orlando. Moving to Charlotte, NC next month super nervous but I’m working my dream job so very excited. This will be a difficult transition but I’m optimistic for the future.
Thank you very much for this wonderful video! Your experiences has given me insights on things to consider..... both externally when moving to a new city and internally when considering your identity, which defines your priorities
This is exactly the type of video I've been looking for thank you! I'm trying to make the decision of whether should move to Washington from the east coast for a job.
Thank you for this video and your personal story. It helps me to clarify some of my struggles after my last move to a new city. Really felt I had to reply on this video. So, again, thanks!
Teresa! Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. I've learned a lot. I'm sure I'll have to re-learn these lessons over and over again. :) It's all about continuing to do our best.
I'm so happy I found and listened to this video. You have a great insightful perspective! I'm also looking to move to the seattle area (and coincidentally enough I've also stayed at that hostel)😄 Definitely resonated with this video, makes me feel more optimistic.
I really liked seeing this from an introverts prospective, I'm about to move to a new city and I'm terrified, but I have been stagnant in my current town for far too long, PUSH ME UNIVERSE
It sounds like the universe is already nudging you. Don't worry, soon enough, you'll get that Big Push. You'll know when it's time to go. :)

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing, There's a lot of truth in this video, and how it was found. Very valuable.

Gettin it done on your terms, without seeking anyone to validate, this is the 2020 mindset I can support as I am on the verge of doing the very same.

It’s beautiful and awesome and so much to do but I hate the cold and knew I wanted to leave. You got balls though. I’m 30 and I haven’t left my state yet until I felt secure of going over to where I want to go. I’m getting a job there soon so I’m excited.
NYC is a JUNGLE.. save atleast 10k before you come here ijs
Lg Marquez What are you getting your associates in? What made you want to move to NYC fresh out of HS?
Just graduated college, nothing left in Alabama for me🤷🏾♂️ I’m taking the steps to move
Good luck
You really started from scratch and from a fragile state... U a strong human 💪
Thanks for watching and the kind comment. :)
Thanks for sharing, Alexis. Hope you're doing well!
This is literally me right now, how are things now in your new city? How about the guy?
I'll be moving to Florida in 4 days. Super excited about this life experience I'll be having in my journey in life. I always dreamed of moving to a different place and just seeing what life has to offer. Best of luck to everyone out there wanting to move out on their own and hope you are successful at everything you do in your life.
It's great to see how a person can grow just by reflecting on the course of their own lives & learning from it. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective, keep doing that please, you don't know who you're helping.
In a lot of ways self reflection is one of the only tools we innately have
I’ve been feeling lost for a good minute now and I haven’t been able to figure out what it is. Recently had the urge to just get up and go to a new state and start a new life, this video encouraged me to do that. Thanks man!
So extremely relatable! I feel the same and had a push to move. I'm going to just do it in the next few months. Really nervous but excited. Hope things are going well for you!
Both of you, do keep us updated! 🙌 Hope you guys are doing okay!!
I'm working on moving to a new city as well, love the video bro. Hope you make more!

How is it going so far? How do you prevent loneliness ?

Glad it was helpful! Feel free to subscribe, if you're not opposed :)
When you stop growing the universe forces you to. Man I felt that in my core. Thank you for this
Thanks for the comment, Wes. That’s a lesson we all (hopefully) only have to learn once 😂 it can be brutal. Onward!
@@tylerjkeenan I can laugh now but I’ve def cried myself to sleep countless nights learning this lesson 😂 onward and upward! Thanks for inspiring!

I’m a retired Career Counselor. This is an outstanding video! I hope a lot of college seniors and recent graduates view this video and ponder your advice. I wish you continued success along your life’s journey.
Such an amazing journey and so much valuable wisdom you gained. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Roy, thanks for the thoughtful comment. 🙏🏻
I love your authenticity. Live in alignment to your values.
I do needed this. Just moved to Phoenix and you talked everything that I’m going through. I will definitely keep you updated on my progress 👌🏽

It was interesting and helpful to hear your thoughts. Best of luck on your journey :)
Usually hate these types of things but this was some real talk which I appreciated.
Nice vid man.

I'm moving to another city in a couple of weeks and I'm so anxious about it, but this video made me feel so much better.
Thanks for sharing. ♥️ you got this. Trust yourself, trust the process, it’ll all unfold exactly as it should.
I love your ability to articulate exactly what you felt and what you went through, it is very comforting and helpful
Thanks so much for watching, Leah!
Thanks for sharing. ♥️ you got this.
This is amazing! And totally inspirational! I'm so happy for you and I hope you keep growing.

Love the setup of actually traveling to key locations that made your story. Also love the key about realizing what you ACTUALLY value. Best relocation video I have seen.
Thanks so much Madison!
Love this, thanks for the comment, Night Owl!
Wow that’s some solid advice from David Bowie
You must be drinking the Kool-Aid. Seattle is a fake city full of fake people. Cold, selfish, passive aggressive.
Thank you so much for reassurance and i think im ready for this next chapter in my life. Keep it up man🙏🏽

I'll never forget this city...I love you Seattle!
My biggest concern is however, how in the world am I going to tell to my parents that
I quit my job, am moving in October to Italy, and in the summer I want to work as a cook on the ship.
But at the end I know if I survive family holidays I can do anything :)
Thank you from my heart for uploading this video
Bome zanimljivo, javi kako je prošlo! XD
Amazing video! Great job giving a clear and nice point of view of all your experience in those times.
Really cool to be able to save all those lessons in video.

Great video bro i just moved from Memphis to Texas definitely needed to see this👍💯
How are you liking it man, thinking about doing the same from the same city. Is the culture similar?
Wow thank you. I have been feeling imbalanced lately. Well i couldn't put how I felt into the actual words. But now i know that my feelings and actions and values all need to be reevaluated. Thank you
Thank you for sharing your story! Really powerful. Wishing you success on your continued journey!

I like how you gave us actual visuals of the places you were and describing what was going on in that time of your life. This was a cool video.
Thanks so much for watching. It was a cool experience to revisit those locations, especially in my last few weeks in Seattle.
@مواء thanks, I appreciate that
You might like the book Necessary Endings. I'm moving from Toronto (cold women) to Florida (warm women). Really got me in the right frame of mind
This is great work. Very practical advice. Looking forward to your next videos!
I wish I had watched this video before moving down to the Knoxville area from Detroit. Thank you for posting this, its helpful.
Thanks for watching.
This was so helpful.. You are very self aware. I enjoyed the introspection! Hope you are doing well!
Thank you, AJ!
P.S. I caught that Petit Biscuit in the background. 😊 I hope you got a chance to catch him when he came out to Seattle a year or so ago.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR!!! HOPE UR DOING GOOD MAN! MUCH LOVE

Thanks for sharing your experience. Wishing you the best on your journey. 🙏🏻

hey man, I know this is an old video but it really resonates with me.
