What’s interesting that in certain parts of the chasm has both 2 area versions of the same composition and a battle version of it that will swap seamlessly when you go in and out of combat. So you get the relatively calm version while exploring around and it picks up in intensity as soon as you fight something.
While the area that this song plays in doesn’t have a 2nd area version of the composition, the battle version is “Inevitable Conflict” if you want to compare and contrast how the same song is interpreted differently.

Some of your thoughts are in the right ballpark, but not in the ways you think they manifest. This piece plays in a very specific area of (as you said) intrigue, and there's an uncertainty about not just what is there, but what it means, and what the implications are (for good or for ill?).
There's some info that suggests what the answers to those questions might be but they're more obscurely provided, thus many players probably don't fully grasp those details. To me this piece sounds, on the whole, somewhat somber, and I suspect that's intentional.
I'll say no more, and look forward to your eventual decent into the space where this plays.

Gosh, I am so happy to see people react to Chasm soundtracks 😢 When it comes to Genshin music, most of the time people react to trailer music/boss tracks, and there's nothing wrong with that, but ambient tracks of the open world are those hidden treasures that rarely get reaction videos dedicated to them.
And aaaah, I'm a bit torn. On one hand, I absolutely wanna recommend listening to the entire disk 3 (the combat tracks album) of Chasm ost, because it's only 6 tracks, and all of them are certified masterpieces, but on the other hand, they hit even better when you hear them in-game for the first time. So, as the middle ground, I guess I'm joining all the other comments that recommend listening to "Inevitable Conflict" - the battle version of "Stories of Remote Antiquity" :D

Much of the music in the Chasm has more than one version, similar enough but distinctive enough to be enjoyed on their own. But when they're all listened together, it feels like you're watching many pieces fitting together to form one continuous composition. While exploring, normal versions become battle versions seamlessly, without breaking tempo. This one's battle version is called "Inevitable Conflict" and feels like the natural progression from this piece.
I would also recommend listening to these pieces in the following order, as to capture what I'm talking about:
First, listen to "Decayed in the Darkness", then play "A Shard from Past Glories", and finally listen to "Seething Animosity".
The three of them feel like smaller pieces derived from the same one as they share the exact melody and tempo, but the instrumentation changes completely from one version to the next one. The battle version even feels faster without actually being faster only because of the strings that play throughout the piece.
Sorry for the longer comment, but the Chasm's OST has blown my mind in the best way possible lol

the chasm's music is sth that can be so personal, bc the overworld and battle musics blend in SO WELL together you don't realize you're getting attacked A LOT if you go by audio cues (i hope you can participate in a seelie event soon, they're very good visual cues for getting attacked at the chasm skjgd), which in retrospect, it's fitting. it's a massive cave, it's dark as fuck, pay attention *or else* akgshg that particular song is sad enough without the lore, imo, you Will Understand when you get there akdjgfsdklgj
someone else said that so much of genshin's lore is in the music, and i find it very fitting considering the connection of music and rebellion, of melody and remembrance, that is embedded in the very prologue of the game. writing-wise, your prologue should set not just the universe, but some of the recurring themes you'll be bringing up within the cycles of your story. i imagine opera isn't so different from prose in that sense, in my humble experience as a hobbyist author and an opera enjoyer from an early age.

Wandering clouds from the chasm album reminds me of multiple different pieces that I’ve listened to. Out of those, the beginning of the piece is similar to Bach Andante from violin sonata 2(?), with how the double stop is played with a repeating bassline note, and a melody is being played over it. They are also both calm, although in different styles (Wandering Clouds would be in a more pastoral way-it reminds me of a piece I had to play in high school orchestra, where it’s supposed to imagine horses over plains

You actually reacted to the song I recommended! this is so cool :,) btw you definitely listen to its battle themed version, what's interesting about all of this is how the music shifts in between both tracks when an enemy targets you, kind of what Automata / Kingdom Hearts series does with their osts, it's beautiful, please consider listening to both “stories of remote antiquity” and “inevitable conflict” mixed together in an incredible transition !

You really need to listen to Ayaka theme song - "Camellia In Winter Snow"', Zhongli's - "The Listener", and Ruu's song from Tsurumi Island - "Beside Bed". These 3 are my all time favorite Genshin songs.

we have similar reaction listening to this track. amazing experience, so many surprises behind “simple” crescendos.
now you need to listen to the variation of that piece. and it sounds more amazing within the game because they put the transition between idle and battle. amazing sound design.

Just like another area called Enkanomia, spoilers, but the somberness that’s felt in some areas is b/c these areas are long forgotten civilizations that once thrived but were destroyed and now just sit and slowly become apart of the earth.

Surprisingly The Chasm followed by Enkanomiya is one of my favorite areas in Genshin aesthetic-wise.
Yes, Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma are beautiful in their own way but The Chasm is unique, especially in comparison to other games. Not many games could ever manage to nail a huge underground cavern so well. Maybe Dark Souls Tomb of the Giants and a few other but it is generally pretty rare. I especially love the fact that, yes there is a lot of small tunnels here and there but most places in the area are fucking massive yet it is still an enclosed space with a ceiling and not exposed to the sky. Sadly without the right graphic setting in your monitor and additional external shader, the area looks a bit boring but once you nail the right setting, it looks absolutely gorgeous

I get the feeling that this track actually made you touched, and i think everyone can relate, since it has certain undertones of melancholy and nostalgia. The first time i heard it, i actually stopped playing, just listened and watched the view, and honestly it almost brought me to tears. It really is amazing, the power that music holds.

Ohhh this is perhaps my favorite track in the entire chasm (this and its combat version, which is VERY similar just more dramatically orchestrated and percussive). It feels so narrative to me, and it visits so many emotional places, which I think is so lovely in music which is meant to be “background” music for an area. There’s such a sense of… oh, god, I don’t know… a kind of lonely, forgotten warmth to it all? There are some very poignant and sad moments in the melody, but also these soaring, lovely ones which just feel so light and lovely, mmm…
I don’t have anything more interesting to say about this song other than just… it was a good choice to analyze and react to lol. And thank you for doing it

Tonight - like, in 15 minutes, - is the culmination of the midsummer city festival around here, so this couldn't have dropped at a better time! I'm going to see the fireworks and then I'm going to watch this video, which I'm sure is a treat. 😊
Edit: I finally got around to it. I find your analysis very on point. The thing that is special about this track - more than any other in the chasm - is that it represents the end of your journey through it. And yeah, the chasm is primarily about exploration, it is not particularly dangerous... to you. But so much happens down there that (without giving you any spoilers) you reach this part with a very heavy heart. There are all these layers that represent your experiences, while alluding also to previous exploration of other areas outside the chasm and other mysteries. It's a very complex piece.

I am not even surprised by now that you're so precise in picturing what the actual caverns of the Chasm looks like. But, I'll wait for the day that you will be able to experience that part in Genshin and have you lost yourself in the story and hopefully, you get shocked just how accurate your reaction now is to the Chasm.

You might also enjoy other OSTs from the chasm such as "Decayed in the darkness", "Seething animosity", "Irresistible force", and like many others suggested already "Inevitable conflict" as I believe that they make the listener feel similar feelings

I love this analysis you did! I learned some new terms and things that could help me in my music journey. This is my most favorite track of the Chasm soundtrack. I haven’t even reached this part of the level yet but I *had* to listen to the ost first. What I like about this track is that it could almost be used as a song for a movie where a romantic couple is on the run, theyre nearly about to be caught, they go through so many trials and their love endures until they both tragically die at the hands of life’s harshness. I actually listened to this song when I was writing a scene for such a story. You should definitely listen to the battle version of this song.
Also, in terms of contemporary classical writing, I would like to recommend ALI PROJECT. Not their anime music. Their album music. They make entirely classical albums along with non-classical albums. My favorite classical albums of theirs are Etoiles, Gothic Opera, Grand Finale, Romance and Kamigami no Tasogare. ALI PROJECT also make classical songs crossed with other genres on their non-classical albums. In particular, I love their song Ataraxia (the rest of the title is pretty long) and Ikeru Oujo no Shouzouga (Portrait of a Dead Princess), which seems to combine classical with a hip hop sound. I’d love to see your analysis on those two songs and what feelings they evoke.

A lot of parts of this are very reminiscent of music from the Ghibli movie Castle in the Sky. The bassoon arpeggios in the background of the quieter parts especially. Thematically there are a lot of parallels between the two, also, so it’s pretty neat.

Feedback for your music reaction video: when you wanna point out the part of melody you about to explain, instead of only say "Did you hear that ... ?" and humming, you should loop that melody part too ( the music/video itself ). This will be a big help for the viewers to understand better. Cheers !!!

I _loved_ the chasm; the first time I got to that first huge dropoff where without the luminstone adjuvant you can't see the ground I giggled like a kid in a candy shop. It's So big and So tangled and _so so deep_ and it's terribly fun to try to get lost with that wacked map that tries and fails to express 3d space. The chasm album is absolutely going to show up on my spotify wrapped this year and i can't even be mad about it lol

The chasm is.... archeology. It's history. It's tragedy so old that it's living legend. It's hints. It's secrets. It's language that can be technically translated but rarely understood. It's _questions_ it's _does this mean what i think it means_ and there is no answer, you're left to wonder. It's hidden places that you aren't required to find they don't lead you to them but if you find them you have to wonder who was here first, what did this mean to those that came before?
