  • Hello everyone,
Its been quite a while since I last uploaded. I took a long break from FFXIV, and games in general. This was a video that I wanted to make since a few months ago, when I first heard the Inazuma theme, and was blown away by it. Now that I am finally done with my finals, I can finally nerd about how great Genshin's music really is. Although I don't really play the game, this piece is on my daily playlist, and I am here to talk about what makes it so amazing. At least now we know where that gacha money is going.
With that said, for the foreseeable future, I would like to focus more on music on this channel, but will still occasionally upload content related to gaming.
See you in the next video~

I've never seen a video about Genshin's OST that goes so deeply into the musical workings of Yu-Peng Chen as this one. As someone who hopes to major in music in college and who thought they knew the ins and outs of the music theory behind Genshin's music this was a welcome learning experience for me. Absolutely mindblowing stuff!
It's worth mentioning that Yu Peng Chen's usage of one motif over and over again under different harmonic progressions presents in interesting link to Inazuma's theme of eternity, whether coincidental or on purpose. It would be incredible to see some more of your analyses of some of the music of Genshin's new regions, especially Sumeru. Keep it up!

Bet Yu-Peng Chen would cry if he sees this video and realize someone can actually understand how much effort he’d paid composing these pieces.

I am so glad to see someone talk about the Music Theory behind Genshin's music. I've been trying to figure this all out myself with a few other songs, and though I have a good amount of knowledge at this point in my studies, it's certainly very taxing on top of all the college work I've got to do. This video has really helped me discover some new details about the music and the effects Yu-Peng Chen's choices in the composition have. Didn't know about french sixths, for instance, so I'll be able to apply knowledge like that in the future, haha. Wonderful video!!

I’m one whole year late but this video was just recommended to me, and it was a super fascinating and educational watch, even if I don’t know much about music terminology! It is always satisfying and joyful to see others nerd out about Yu-Peng Chen and Genshin’s music and express the same level of love, passion, and appreciation that I’ve always had for the soundtrack of this game.
Hoyo-Mix is certainly in good hands after Yu-Peng Chen’s announcement of departure from the company, but I will forever miss his work in the game. He is truly one of the most skilled, talented, and irreplaceable composers of this generation. The game will not be the same without him.

Yeah I love that Yu-Peng Chen nails at making music that are absolutely impossible to get tired/bored of. But what impresses me the most is cutscene music, specially "Bravery and Tenderness" and "Hang by a Thread", this second one to me is the best scene in the game (Perilous Trail Event Cutscene Animation: "Moment of Life or Death"). The way that they make it all work into a cohesive audio-visual composition that is both extremely good on the eyes and ears, is awe-inducing. It's really Nolan-Zimmer levels of great audio-visual experience
