Bonus tip for stability -if you don't have a gimbal, use a neck strap, put it on like normal and using both hands, push the camera out away from your chest to brace the neck strap taught against the back of your neck. It gives you even more stability and can really give great results.
Such an insightful video! The part about struggling with framing in vertical videos and needing stability really hit home-especially when you mentioned camera cages and gimbals (around 4:17). For creators like me who often film solo, tools like MagMirror are a game-changer. It wirelessly mirrors your phone’s back camera feed, so you can frame perfectly without needing extra help. Plus, its built-in lighting ensures your shots look professional every time. I’m heading over to MagMirror’s channel for more tips-hope to see you there!
Thank you so much for the information. Im preparing to shoot a comercial vertically but I was not really sure whether to use a wide angle lense such as20mm or 50mm. It looks so much better with a 50mm and 70mm. 👍
Great tips btw. I struggle with framing in vertical but I think youre right in that framing left or right justified is less important since its not as spacious. Thanks again
I hear you-framing in vertical can be tricky! The video’s advice on centering subjects is super helpful, but if you're filming solo, MagMirror makes it even easier by showing your live feed on a mirrored screen for perfect alignment. Definitely worth checking out their channel for more content creation solutions!
fantastic Content! you are right vertical content is the consumer norm for viewing social media! please continue to post more videos on shooting vertical content using mirrorless cameras. I am a social media creator always looking for ways to improve my content! Thanks!
For those of us wanting to view guitar lessons, the vertical format sucks. No way that I can see to do a slight "rewind" or to slow it down. If you want a bigger audience for your guitar lessons you post, please do a horizontal. There's no way I'd want to use my phone display to view guitar lessons.
I realize that between Facebook and Instagram reels, RUclips shorts and tick tock that they are forcing us to do vertical video. I do appreciate what you said about stacking videos etc. but when you're shooting interaction between two people, it gets really crowded in the frame put a lot of wasted headroom and or space at the bottom. (Yes I saw where you addressed that.) Now if we could just train viewers to turn their their phones to landscape mode to view the videos it would be so much better😊
This is THE Best vertical video tutorial for filmmakers on all of RUclips! Good job :D

Bonus Tip! If you use the phone that Justice flexed, you will probably get smoother footage because of the grip design🤣
Haha! True. Except the quality is 480p so...

Thanks for the Video. I think that filming Vertical is a important thing nowadays.😀
What are the best settings for filming outside in the sun? ISO, F Stop, and Shutter speed.
Keep shutter double your frames, iso will prob have to be as low as possible, if you have nd filters you can choose whatever f stop you want
Recorded vertically:(
Very informative. Thank you.
uses multi thousand dollar lenses and runs a huge filmaking school but uses a flip phone.
Very informative. I am questioning my self on what to do with my camera 😅
can we use hdr monitor for photoshop and video editing colorgrading
Great Stuff. Thanks
thx man!
Great! Thanks!
Insta360 x 4 can be edited in portrait or landscape 👍
I am a complete novice regarding recording...What if you are shooting for RUclips, but you know people will watch it on their phones?
Great video! How do you balance a heavier camera vertically without it being top heavy?
On a gimbal?
Thanks
I just wanted to chime in and highlight how amazing it is to see you all mention your work with Christian bands and such. God bless you.
I am shoot stock video with my Galaxy S22. Should i think about shooting a percentage in vertical?
How about shoot in a 6.2K open gate.
I literally avoid apps like TikTok *because* of vertical videos.

I hate vertical
Still dont like vertical video 😅
same lol
Totally agree. Like watching a movie through a keyhole. Best way to fix vertical video is to turn your camera 90 degrees. 😅
ditto

Great video but I also hate vertical
dont upload in vertical please
It HOITS I tell ye
but why are my reels not getting views damn
you post in multi plataforms at the same time?
Remember when uploading a vertical video to anything was a sin?😭
Please don’t upload in vertical. It’s very annoying to watch this on my phone. It keeps switching to portrait. When I want to want horizontal
👍👍
Personally, I would not shoot vertical video unless my eyes were one above the other.
There's one really good reason to not shoot vertical video. It looks like crap.
Your vertical content sucks because it's vertical. There is no fixing that, except to rotate your camera correctly.
There is exactly one reason why your vertical video sucks. It is vertical.
Phones have ruined film and video... Change my mind.
