I did almost 60% of the settings possible into my androind phone. Never knew these settings on my phone camera before. Thank you so much. Every second of the video is worth watching.
One thing about white balance to all new filmmakers. He explains it very well but keep in mind that just because you set the "right" white balance it doesn't mean it is the best white balance for your shot. It depends on what you want to tell! The girl on the rooftop when he says it looks "a thousand times better" - that's just not true. It looks more neutral, yes! but when you want a warmer, more sunny feeling and look feel free to change that white balance to a warmer setting. Same thing when you want to shoot day for night - meaning you want to shoot a night scene but there is not enough light so you want to shoot during the day and just want that night mood - feel free to get your white balance a bit colder so you sell the idea in your mind.
I have never taken a filmmaking class or done anything with photography or filming. I feel more than confident to go film and balance photos now, but even more so, I feel like I could explain and teach someone else. Excellent content, thank you!
Probably no one will read this, but if you are going to put your video on RUclips, it wants 30 FPS, not 24 FPS. If you upload 24 FPS video, it will auto-convert to 30 FPS, resulting in poorer quality. Also, TVs will do the same. Unfortunately, most stock footage is shot at 24 FPS also. I don't know when people are going to stop using the 24 FPS format, as it's really outdated.
Is 30 or 60 better at 1080p for long form talking heads content? Using obs to manage everything so just curious if you have any insight on that choice.
Thanks for the info as I did some video recording at 24fps and it looks really odd, jolty (IPhone 14 Plus) and unnatural. So switching back to 30fps 🤷♀️
@@defendingalionI usually do 30 frames long form because it’s easier to do motion graphics with half the frames, plus lower file sizes, and people don’t need good internet to watch it

The simple way of you explaining all of the settings & important things to know about filmmaking is actually the major point of anyone fluently understanding it 🙏🏾 thank you for the great video & your efforts !
Just watched your "20 minute smart phone" video and I say to who'll ever see this, this is rhe most informative video for shooting video with your phone I have ever seen. I cannot praise this video enough. The only negative is a lot of the amateurish mistakes talked about I have been guilty of. BUT that was before I saw this video. I just cannot thank you enough for educating me and everybody else. One of the things I'm downright ashamed of is in the past I would keep all my settings on auto to do video. I will tell everyone I know about this video. It is truly appreciated
Thanks for sharing all these tips. As a working actor and as a film school grad I always recognized the potential of my phone’s camera but never really used it for anything other than the usual quick short social situations. This has really sparked my interest in starting to utilize my phone in more of a filmmaking craft.
This was INCREDIBLE. Thanks for explaining the important features (shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and frame rate). You made it make complete sense to the unprofessional photographers. I feel more aware now with these few features alone.
This is the best video-making tutorial on RUclips. Hands down. You've made a fan here man. And I'm a professional TV producer who's been in the industry for 19 years. I usually laugh at most tutorials with such titles, but this was a really good one. Keep it up!
Bro. I'm a huge fan, but you need to talk more about android phones and use them too because your audience spans the globe and not just the US. So most of us don't use iPhones, the majority in the world have android phones because the iPhone is insanely expensive in other countries. I too have a Samsung ultra, which is almost half the price of the iPhone here in Dubai. Also, the Filmic Pro app only works well on the iPhone. Even my S21 Ultra's pro mode is 1000x better than the Filmic Pro, even today in 2024. That's why you should use an android phone at least in your videos so you can recommend apps for us too. Thanks for the video. It was super helpful.
I've tried a few camera apps and set all these things manually and I find auto mode is still the best option in normal situations. Modern phones are so smart these days and there is no need to use manual settings until you want to get specific result like bluration or something like this. The only thing you really need to set manually is frame rate which is necesary in post production for the slow motion. Auto mode has also one more adventage. Imagine that you record a video being outside and you go inside. Would you stop recording before the door to change white balance? Auto mode do this job for you fluently but if you want to keep specific settings in "auto" you can simply lock exposure. So I think in 90 percent of cases using manual mode is needless.

Highly informative ! Does the Action Mode feature on iPhone 15 ProMax remove the need to buy a gimbal for steady video ? Also in regard to “blown out highlights” and dynamic range when shooting on the phone , how well does the ProRAW/ProRES feature compensate for that limitation ?

One last note I'll add: to maximize your ability to edit after shooting, capture in RAW to the extent that you can. Even after setting frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance, your camera is making decisions behind your back about how to turn what it sees into a color image. This is by far the easiest tutorial that ever existed. Thank you very much! I literally learned a lot from this video. That comment from the previous video about "$6000 for a class" vs. your video is pretty accurate
What a great explanation. I am zero in camera settings, but now I can understand behind the settings. Your way or explanation is easy to understand. Thanks for the clarification
I recently upgraded my phone from a Samsung S10 to S23 Ultra. The camera quality is better and more even across the different cameras. In addition the iso performance is better. But my S10 (for rhe main camera) had dual apertures of 2.4 and 1.5. In addition when it comes to audio, the 3.5 mic jack is a lot more universal than using a dongle and better quality.
Wow, this is like a free course. Anyone can start their professional photography or videography career after this. Only I need to learn more about angles now.

I don't think you understand the amount of value you have provide with this one single video. Don't care if it's even hours long so long as it's this informative.
Really good video, but, what about Android phones? Why does everybody assume that iPhones are much more superior than them? It couldn't be further from the truth. Also, I think it's time we stopped calling them "smartphones". How many "dumb" phones do you see out there any longer? 😆
😢
Iphone has Log, external storage direct write and the black magic app which is the dream
I've learn so much. Thank you sir!
one of the most detailed video, with all aspect covered, i had hard time controlling iso and white balance, it is precise now
waow! you were't kidding about a 20 minutes tutorial. Literarily every second counts. Very well structured, easy to digest.
Holly molly, really I was about to jump into filmmaking businesses when I dreamed of it just last night I mean a couple hours just from opening the RUclips to look for advices and more information bro without further a due you are incredible and the way you selling us the ads of the videos sponsor website products, lines and so on was awesome didn't feel awkward like other contacts creature... Thanks
The most valuable for me is your point of knowing the limits of mobile filming and avoid it
The Best smartphone camera video EVER 🔥🔥🔥
This video is insanely valuable for people just starting RUclips like me
This is by far the easiest tutorial that ever existed.
This is the best detailed RUclips tutorial I have seen.
What a video..!!! This is the video which I watched completely without forwarding. Thanks man for such an informative video. Super liked it🎉..!!
I actually learned more from this video than I have the countless others that I've spent hours watching.
This is the greatest video ever on this subject matter.
Just one word: superb.
Great masterclass on mobile filmmaking.
Wow, this is like a free course.
Anyone can start their professional photography or videography career after this.
Only I need to learn more about angles now.
Thank you kindly! I learned sooo much and am excited to start shooting reels. Your training is well-paced, clear, and in terminology I can grasp 👍
Such a great video tutorial for the everyone to watch who has interest in videography , Nobody can give you such details in paid classes.. Everybody has mobile phones , but never used 10% features of his phone in daily life. Thanks for your great efferot
