    First Linus builds a computer that can run 7 different instances of Crysis 3 on 2 cpu's, then Jay goes and watercools his loop with Powerade, milk and orange juice?
    2016 is shaping up to be an amazing year for tech channels.

      +lilturk726 Next time they all go to a trade show (when Jay is feeling less lazy) it would be cool to see them all team up for some sort of ChannelSuperFun vid.

      I'm still holding out hope for a Scrapyard wars featuring Linus, Luke, Logan, Jay, Paul and Kyle (from AwesomeSauce). Though I know that will never happen since logistics would be a nightmare, but a Channel SuperFun video would definitely be the next best thing.

      Hhhmmmm? ? ? Heat and Milk GREAT IDEA ! ! ! ! ! ! Rotten milk what a great perfume for a computer? And good luck cleaning out the residue from in the cooling system: The sugar that has gummed up on the inside of your heat exchangers for the CPU and GPU card. Water is the most Endo and exothermic substance. There will be no better medium for heat distribution or absorption.

      The milk can't become butter. He's using skim milk which has no cream. Butter is usually made with 100% cream. Even regular milk won't do it.

      not even close.
      a fully grown unit of cattle is quite expensive, especially live.
      frankly if a single unit of cattle was only worth $1000 tops (but more like $500), people couldn't make a living on raising Cattle. you'd make no money.
      you can safely say that a head of cattle is worth no less than ~$1000 USD.
      while you could certainly spend enough money on Liquid Cooling to reach that, a complete loop that isn't just wasting money isn't going to come close.

    • @Rfc1394

      In case you have forgotten, "antifreeze" refers to ethylene glycol, a chemical which when mixed with water is also used to prevent boiling.

    • @roywood312
      @roywood312 7 лет назад +1

      And since an internal combustion engine generates so much less heat than the CPU there is a real worry of the CPU boiling the water in reality CPU hardly generates enough heat even make the water boil as fast as the moving water would carry away the tiny amount of heat generated and be taken out by the heat exchanger so yeah I really don't see you worrying about the ethylene glycol being needed to prevent the water from boiling

    • @Rfc1394
      @Rfc1394 7 лет назад +3

      I'm simply saying, what would be the effect of these. Then because I referenced "antifreeze" you make a stupid comment about CPUs potentially freezing even though it';s common knowledge that antifreeze provides anti-boil protection. Further, propylene glycol has a property in which it is less effective when pure. Adding water to it allows it to have a higher boiling point and a lower freezing point than if it did not have water added.

    • @roywood312
      @roywood312 7 лет назад

      Glad you edited your reply to take out the Ethylene Glycol is to prevent boiling remark I don't get why all this started about something other than water being used to cool a computer. Water is the most efficient liquid for endothermic and exothermic transactions, and it doesn't stink like rotten milk.

    Hi Jay,
    Just here to say: the amount of heat a substance can store is based on the molecules of that substance : every molecule has a certain number of degrees of liberty, 3 of those translate to heat. Determining the number of degrees of liberty kinda goes like this : you allways have 3 for the moving of the molecule in the x,y and z axes, 2 for each bound between atoms (those two represent ossiliation between those molecules, a bit like a spring) and 2 more for every 3 molecules connected in a row (those represent lateral ossiliation) so basicly, the more a molecul is complexe and has lots of atoms composing it, the better it can "store" heat while heating less themselves. water is consisting of 3 moleculs, which is not that much, so it's not perfect...
    Car engines are also cooled a bit like a watercooling cools a CPU/GPU, but to get better performances, instead of using regular water, they use some kind of oil, a more complex molecule, thus capable of "storing" more heat.
    (sorry for the inaccuracy, it surely isn't totally correct, but...yeah... and also sorry for the bad translation)
    So what i would LOVE to see would be this: making this experiment with a car cooling fluid, this might be not that bad for the components (I guess so, it's kinda made for that) and this might also translate to better cooling, only thing is that those rad might then be the botleneck
    Tank you Jay
    And guys, like this comment if you think this is a cool experiment jay could do ;)

    Get an old junk setup running with Milk and keep it going until it spoils. Just to see what happens.
    Will it still get chunky and clog the rad or pump if it never stops flowing? What color will it turn? ... etc.

    • @WrenAkula
      @WrenAkula 8 лет назад +1

      *****
      You would think so, but the flux and heat might do some odd things to it. If I did this, I would only use components that I'm ok with throwing away instead of cleaning. And I would expect not to be able to salvage the rad after that.

  • @techmantra4521
    @techmantra4521 7 лет назад +13

    I doubt the pump would be powerful enough but what about liquid mercury? In a controlled environment it could be safe enough. Fumes are a problem at higher temperatures but I think it's in the hundreds? You should team up with Cody's Lab and try it. Everything would be a write off and it could attack other metals... yeah it could be quite a bad idea.

    • @movmakerNeo
      @movmakerNeo 7 лет назад +1

      a liquid metal like Gallium though would be an amazing bet as a coolant. its liquid AND metal to metal contact. Gallium is food grade safe so i assume gallium wouldn't attack any metals as it has low reactivity, dont know for certain.
      only problem is getting enough gallium for the loop would be expensive to attempt, and the pumps would have difficulty with density.

    • @VerticalGamer
      @VerticalGamer 7 лет назад +1

      movmakerNeo Yeah except Gallium corrodes Aluminum.... not a good idea

    • @EuanPlays296
