Hay, at 12:30 here in Canada, you can walk into most local Police Stations or RCMP (FBI type of deal) office and there is a designated area where you can meet the buyer or seller. Yes, we do have those and governments here recommend selling items at the Police Stations to avoid scams. The transactions are also recorded on CCTV and if you become a victim, you can file a police report and use the CCTV under the Access to Information and Privacy Act. I wonder how many other countries have these like Canada. You can ask about this from Linus (LTT).
My city does the same, must be we are close to the land of Maple Syrup and Poutine.
I've seen it here in the US too, mostly outside the police station though. I don't think it's weird, seems like a good situation for both people. Edit: Apparently it's called SafeTrade Stations, can google it to see which stations support it.

Yep...here in Abbotsford BC the local PD has two parking spaces in the police parking lot for such a thing, it's under CCTV and marked for online buying safe area. The two spots are literally in direct sight of the front doors for the Abbotsford Police main building, quite a safe space...considering there's always officers there in some capacity.
I'm really curious about how iFixit reacted the first time they saw that awesome ad of yours... 😂

A lot of places have started doing "safe trade" zones out front of cop shops as a way to avoid inviting the wrong person to your house or to prevent you from getting mugged. Great concept IMO. If they wont meet you near a police department, they were probably planning something.
Dude, I wouldn't do that because it would mean a 30 minute drive through a maze of 1 way streets that is so convoluted, GPS will send you down the wrong way 9/10 times. There is nothing wrong with meeting at the Walmart during peek shopping hours or anywhere else in public.
@@MeepChangeling it's a more effective deterrent than meeting in a Walmart parking lot. People still get mugged out front of stores all the time. Rarely does it happen literally in front of the front door to a police precinct. No way I'd sell anything more than 200USD in an at risk spot.

Every town has a police station. Cops most likely won't even bother you, if they even notice you they will probably know more or less what you're doing. Perfect place to trade expensive things. I'll go to someone's house in certain cases, but it depends what town they are in. Lots of more upscale suburban towns where I'd have no problem doing so.
@@shaung638 So what if they have more than one? What if someone has a gun? What if they're semi-organized? There's still a million things that could happen especially when there's expensive stuff on the line.
A good way that I use to kill time: Go on ebay and report all of the RTX listings that are over 500% mark up for price gouging. I get like 3 a day taken down.

100% If you want a graphic cards pretty bad your best shot is doing this really by selling the remainer you get back close to have your money. However i only find it sketchy that he included the picture with the graphics card in it but it's not listed so I dock him points for that but if he did it without it in the picture it's actually really smart way to sell it.

I saw a listing for a 3060 a day after it came out for $900 and the seller said, "No lowball offers". lmao these people have no soul.
In Canada I've seen RTX 3060 listed for double retail and 3090s for 2-3 times retail. I hate it here and these scalpers act like no one will low ball them lol
Meanwhile I was told I was selling my RX570 for too low at $80.
@@kuro0198 I was offered a 3060 as a trade for my 2080 Ti but I had to give additional cash too. Like why tf would I give you my card and cash in exchange for a lower performing card? Scalpers are something else and I really wish people would just have patience and not support them.

2:31 - I was using an amd fx-6300 6 core cpu up until early March of 2021(Just a week or 2 before this video was uploaded) That cpu worked amazingly for me for many years.
In here in Italy,on eBay, most of the ads are from scammers that presents the 3080 jpeg edition and trying to sell you an high quality picture for almost msrp.
Same in the UK.
It‘s a known scam you can probably find in any unrestricted country.
Don't know why but regardless of how often I see it, the ifixit add always earns a thumbs up.
All I remember from a PC-seller description on a local site was "It goes *really* fast... if you throw it out the window with enough force."

Stuff like this makes the little evil demon in my head think "Maybe I should be a garbage person and scam some idiots to get myself a little ways out of poverty", Then the moral decent (poor) part of my brain convinces me that I am better than that.

found an etsy listing for a 30 series card selling for $65 with a picture of the box PLUS the card on top of the box. It was in 20 people's carts and can not be found anymore...feel bad for the people who just ordered free landscaping advertising....

When I lived in the inland empire, people were doing crap like selling random $5 gameboy games for $50. And people were buying them!
looks like any eletronics store in Brazil lol, here to calculate the price of anything that is imported we just multiply by 10 and it may be even higher. Our currency costs around 0.2 dollars and on top of that our government taxes every eletronic that comes from another country for like 100% and there you go, 10 times the price. Really sad cause before it wasn't like that, the dollar was like 1,2 R$ some years ago
There is a bit of Phycology in that, people will instinctively want to buy it more if it's priced higher because they have the assumption it's either good quality or rare

I got my 2070 for 250 Euro before the prices skyrocketed now i could sell it for 800 euro and still be cheap
Jup got a 770 4GB that has been in and out of my PC about 3 times in the last Year, until i grabbed a 3070 FE for about 700$. Still keeping the 770 thoe, I mean you never know ;)
And if everything goes wrong I still have a 560ti 2GB in my girlfriends PC xD

The most ridiculous ads I've ever seen for GPUs are the retail prices from reputable online PC stores here in Australia currently.
RX 6700XT - up to $1,080 USD
RX 6900XT - up to $2,010 USD
RTX 2060 - up to $670 USD
RTX 3090 - up to $2,940 USD
No one is forcing you to buy them

Now if I was doing what mainstream media does and saying that people are buying GPUs for $20k because I saw an EBay listing for a 1060 for $20k, then yes I'd be creating a false narrative as a list price under such circumstances does not mean anyone is purchasing at that price.
I however am commenting on list prices on reputable retail websites (not marketplaces) who are actually selling the cards to real people at that price - evidenced by the In Stock, changing to Sold Out within a couple of days.
Don't know what world you're living in, but I'll stick to mine, where I am free to comment on whatever I like.

I'm from Florida and I tell you I got a 6800 PowerColor Fighter from Ebay for $900 from a guy in Jacksonville in February.
A danish retailer had several listings for RTX 3080 cards yesterday for 22759 DKK each (~ 3620 USD)! Highest I've seen so far in country, private or retailer. Somehow they sold out anyway.
Who ever thought that if 2080Ti owners the day the 3080 came out could have gotten even more than their initial investment if they waited another 6 months.

I was joking around with a guy on launch day that he had his chance to sell his 2080 ti for $500, but that he would never make the money back.. Jokes on me.
I bought a super cheap 2080TI when RTX3000 series was announced. I actually sold it for a profit a few months later, and bought a Titan X because I don't use Ray tracing, pocketed the difference for a 3000 series when they become available. So in 6 months i went from GTX1060 6gb to RTX2080TI then back to a TITAN X, although it is 40% better than the 1060 i had - and somehow I have £300 in my pocket after selling those cards and getting a Titan X? Modern GPU market in a nutshell. In 2022 - I will hopefully get a 3070...Insanity.
Yeah 5 Months from the Day i built my new Rig back in April 2020 yet it's still hard to grab a 30xx series GPU for a reasonable Price. Besides that, i'm waiting for the 3080ti to release. Until then my 2080ti will be plenty sufficient for me. Do i regret buying it, now that the 30xx Series has been released? Probably. If there were plenty available. But in this Situation? Nah. Then it's better to skip the 3080 and 3090 and wait for that beautiful 3080ti 😍
I'll be honest, I regret not buying a 2080ti when they were going for 450 bucks right after the 3000 series announcement.

Here in Canada. When the new 30 series cards came out. On eBay and Facebook market place. People were selling the JPEG images for 3090’s for like $5000 and people were actually buying them. But the worst thing ive found is a used/mined msi 1070 ti that sold for $2000 cash. It was insane!!
my local precinct has a corner designated for trades and transactions, you just have to let them know that you are doing it which basically just involves you going "hey, gonna meet someone here to buy this __" and then you're all good. they started doing that after a number of craigslist muggings in my area, it's way more unlikely to happen in a station than at a store or something
Guy around my area had 14 3090s and he was selling them 2.5k a piece ($35,000) if he didn’t keep one

I thought it was E-Bay, but there used to be a thing where when the buyer paid for an item, the seller would be notified that the auction site received the money, and the auction site would hold the money until the buyer actually received the item. Then the money was released to the seller. Maybe that was when E-Bay and PayPal were together? Or maybe it was somewhere else. Anyway, it was a good system.
