I saw them at the Palladium in NYC on this tour. Night Ranger opened up for them. It is STILL to this day. The best concert I ever saw.

Thanks so much for posting this video. With no disrespect to Kerry - whose music I also love - I have to say that the two Kansas albums that I've always gravitated to, just happen to have Steve Morse on guitar... 'Power' and 'In the Spirit of Things'. There's always a deep spiritual connection to all Kansas recordings, but those two albums connect with me on every level...

Freaks of nature is also great from 1995 and their Prelude Implicit set from a few years back. I also think David Ragsdale has a more melodic sound than Robbie did (but Robbie was a great, and under used singer.

I visited the school and ghost town they are singing about in this song. Listened to the song as I walked the halls of the school. Very cool!

You think so? I love this song. Steve's dramatic narrative gives it a unique flavour. Morse's mad guitar shred towards the end is incredible. I give it points for unique, it's great seeing a band like this trying different things. I think they totally pulled it off.

    Jeez Demmy,. Calm down, son!
Just for your enlightenment, Steve Walsh has said he won't be submitting any more of his songs for Kansas to record and apparently it's in the stupid contract that the others cannot record a Kansas album without him. Hence the Native Window CD.

  • @jpirard

Steve CHOSE to not do new music. THERE is nothng preventing them from recording a new album, but he would not have been wrting for it. SIMPLE as that. Obviously since HE and LIVGREN were the primary songwriters, and he made that decision, well then what do you expect.

Re: comment #1 demmylowther; My suggestion is that you learn to play an instrument before you criticize these elderly musically talanted musicians.
Re: comment #2 demmylowther; If you payed attention..Kerry Livgren has suffered a major stroke. Phil Ehart has said many times...for KANSAS to record new music it would be a huge production and its not worth their time.
Re: comment #3 demmylowther; "THERES KNOW PLACE LIKE HOME"..."DIVICE-VOICE-DRUM...2 DVD's for your listening pleasure!

What a disappointment these versions are. Ghosts is far too fast, the phrasing is all wrong and doesn't capture any of the emotion the album track does and Steves solo sounds improvised unlike the stunning album version. Slamming out the chorus only to Rainmaker also is a missed opportunity where the incredible instrumental middle section could have been so much more of a magical live moment. These two tracks deserved so much more live than a rushed medley where they made it sound like a good way to kill 5 minutes then move on.

Kansas is my favorite band of all times, but this may be the worst song they ever did. Although I liked the "Power" album, I remember the tears of sadness and disappointment that rolled down my face when when I "In The Spirit of Things" was released.
The only 2 songs that I could listen to were "House on Fire" (great organ) and "Stand Beside Me", which was one of the few songs that Kansas ever played, but didn't write.
