Have listened to Kansas and Steve Walsh both recorded and live since the Leftoverture album in 1976. They were unbelievable then and for all things considered almost 40 years later are still unbelievable. Can Steve do vocally what he once could? No. But am I glad to see him still perform with what he does have? Absolutely. None of us are getting any younger or better. Just glad to see these bands perform with as many of the original guys as are able or willing, even if they are slowly succumbing to father time as are we all.

I totally agree. I've probably seen them 20 times, however, I wish I could have seen them with the original five. I still notice alot of comments, however, that insist Steve's voice is as good as ever. As you say, age does affect us, some more than others. I've seen them twice with Ronnie Platt. He can hit the notes that Steve no longer can. There're still great in concert & their new album is incredible.

For me, Steve Walsh was one of the all time greatest rock singers. I have mixed feelings about the state of his voice now. In one sense, if you can take him as he is now, he is a very good vocalist for most of the music he sings, esp his solo work. On the other hand, he has lost almost all of the grandeur, range and subtlety of his youth. The studio version of this song is sung with a sensitivity that he cannot achieve now; and forget the soaring note at the end which sends chills down my spine.

@Donald Duck It’s not just that and he has been clean for some time now. It’s age and the punishment his voice endured for so many years, which included smoking. It all takes a toll after a while. Steve needs a long rest. Still love him though.

Highly recommended from this lifelong fan.

@@guysalzmann9302He is giving him a break and acknowledges what time does. Boston & Kansas are my two favorite bands. I met Steve in person and have his first solo album signed by him. That doesn’t mean you can’t comment and lament that the voice we all grew up loving was gone at this point. We still appreciate the great music vocals he made for us as well as the musical contributions of all the original members from album one to Audio-Visions and , to a lesser degree, Vinyl Confessions. No one is attacking our prized Kansas members. Just an observation on his part. It is sad. Just like it will be sad as each member passes away.

Steve is suffering from what happens to many rock singers who have been in the game for 20 or 30 plus years. When singing his old material, which was performed with the vitality and spirit of youth, he sounds like a crotchety old man. And for me, it doesn't hold up-if I want to hear the Steve Walsh on the albums, in his prime. If I listen to the song as if I didn't know it, taking his vocal state as is, I can actually enjoy and appreciate his singing. Just my two cents worth. ;)
