Ten years ago....I WAS THERE!! Steve Walsh's voice had struggled for the last 30 years but it sounded magnificent that night for the 35th Anniversary show and I just remember being so proud of him. I get emotional hearing this song because it reminds me of how epic it sounded with the orchestra and my love for their music and the original lineup - KANSAS FOREVER \m/ \m/
I know everyone goes wild when they hear Dust in the Wind and Point of No Return, and rightfully so, but for my money this song and Cheyenne Anthem really brought out the best that Kansas could do.
Lisa, I couldn’t agree with you more. I too have been listening to Kansas for over 40 years and have always been amazed at the depth of the lyrics and the quality of the vocals and everything.
After seeing CHICAGO in '75;out there in Wichita Ks.,i saw KANSAS,and was blown away by their ability to weave a spell of magical mystery in music and words, spellbinding me for life!!They are my favorite American band of all time!!
the thing with KANSAS is that each one of them are MASTERS at their instruments, and they compliment each other, they created two of their songs in one take, one session,UNREAL, MUSIC GENIOUS'S, yeah real rockers to say the least, i worked with steve's dad, steve and rich are off the chain talented, kerry is definitely charged spiritually, UNREAL BAND ............ WORDS DON'T DO THEM JUSTICE, i lived 50 miles form them, PROUD TO BE KANSAN BORN
Listened to their albums in HS in the 70s, but didn't see Kansas live for the first time until 81. UNBELIEVABLE! Better live than on vinyl. Superb musicians. And for all of their big hits like "Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind", its their songs that never made the radio that I find the most enjoyable. Have managed to see them live 7 times in different incarnations, and have never been disappointed.
Here is an example of a real band due simply to the fact that they are better live than in studio whereas it is typically the other way around. Just awesome and so heartfelt.
Livgren and Walsh are amazing composers. This song evokes just about every human emotion there is. It's very complex in composition and overall just a masterpiece of progressive rock. It accomishes all of this without being the slightest bit pretentious.
Brilliant band loved them since i heard them in 76 with carry on my wayward son rushed out and bought the album wish they would come to Scotland love to see them
my father passed away a few years ago, and I found myself on RUclips that night. This song called out to me and fit perfectly. Thank you Kansas, I'm still moved deeply every time I play it
Stormshe. I guess my husband thinks I am silly but I love this song and Dust in the Wind. Reminds me of my dad who died in 72 . A long story there. Lost my beautiful joyful brother in 2014. The music of Kansas helps me cope
I chose Miracles out of Nowhere the night my father passed in early 2019. When my mom succumbed later that year, I chose No One's Home. Says a lot about a band when all the years and memories are wrapped up and finally put away that these songs/words are what you will always remember them by. A sad, yet endearing testament to what moves our lives and what those we love mean to us. An expression of loyalty and remembrance, ensconced in song. Forever.
Anyone who recognizes art in music doesn't miss their contribution to our true love of culture and beauty. Very few groups can start a concert like this and not let any one person down who hears it then or 100 yrs from now. It is REAL beauty .....
I was fortunate to attend this concert in Topeka. I continue to be amazed that they can play these intricate compositions live just like they did when I last saw them almost 30 years ago. The violin solo is my all time favorites, followed by the Violin Song by City Boy. Rags did a great job, as did the Washburn Symphony Orchestra.
These guys were one of the best ever. Got to see them in MSG early 80's and as others have written, they leave nothing in the studio. The talent of each member is outstanding. Steve Walsh become my all time lead singer for any band. At the MSG concert he used a huge church style organ 'leaning' with a microphone handing from above and stood/dance in his adidas wear all night. Will never forget.
One must see the new documentary to realize the love and respect these guys never lost for each other. Styx and journey their contemporaries could take note.Saw them in 78 at Nassau colisseum and knew they would still be playing music 36 years later. What a beautiful forgotten gem this song was too.
wow, I had almost forgotten about this heartfelt masterpiece from point of know return (they had such a legacy already ! ) .. it's awesome to go to youtube and rediscover this music and find new performances you hadn't checked out b4 .. :)
It's not too late to save humanity! The best of our beautiful world that our living merciful God gave to U.S. to fully enjoy life and REMEMBER what is most important in life is our relationships with our God and one another! Thank you for filling our world with lasting beauty superheroes of the musical kind! My life has just been filled with joy and hope for mankind watching this amazing performance..That sends such a powerful timely message to our world! God Bless you all! ❤️
Thank you very much kansas・・my bosom friend keeping their in awe.I could see most beautiful dignified sight,I could hear most marvelous beautiful sound and I could realize greatest choice man of most patient faithful with most zealous pure ability in all my life.I enjoyed this first-rate concert to my hearts content. Thanks for sharing, with my whole heart. takako from Japan
such emotion evoking jams.... am teary eyed at the end of watching this video....Kansas was on another planet altogether...I thank them for all that they have written and accomplished....
I was studying Engineering fresh out of high school in Miami (abandoned in favor of music eventually, we can't all be Kerry Livgren or Tom Scholtz) The same day POKR was released the local rock station played the album in its entirety. all I had was a cheap one speaker radio which I took to the pier at the end of the street with a couple of j's and some beer and listened to the whole thing. I remember paradox, nobody's home and dust making a huge musical impact on me. I wish I could remember Hopelessly Human (the last song ............... lol ..............)
they are all pushing the 70 yr stage, and STEVE stays, they all started together they should finish together,i'm goin to one of their concerts soon, may be last time I get to see them, that 's the way I look at it,unreal musicians
Documentary rekindled my interest in this amazing song. With Steve Walsh's voice gone, probably good he has moved on. Can't think of any other band that has so masterfully integrated the violin. Awesome song.
I admire kansas and merciful God.When I look This concert for the first time at one month ago,my face beamed with rapture and surprise my thanks. My wish has granted.-About thirty years ago,I have insisted that kansas music was classical and still more lyrical and emotional to many acquaintances. Most people couldn't help feeling reluctant to rock with no hear. So I wish I want to listen to song of kansas with orchestra at some future time.
So glad this show was recorded. I think other than the Kirshner recordings it’s Steve Walsh at the top of his game for 2009. I was there on the second row center and this was pretty much my view of the entire show. What an awesome time with so many friends and family. Some for the last time.
Played at College Of Dupage Glen Ellyn, Il late 70's Saw them at Randhearst Ice Arena Near Chicago Sitting on floor atop the Ice No One Minded cold Rumps!
Probably one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. "I came to learn, perhaps to teach, I can tell somehow. The world that I was sent to reach, has got no future now" "Across the galaxy, to spread the word, but no one heard. I came for nothing they are gone, nobody's home" Its sad to hear something like this. I was about 19 when I heard this, It made me sadder than I already felt imagining myself as the one that came.
Just saw them Saturday August 31st. I didn't know how it would be without Steve, but this new guy Ronnie sure sure sounds great and has a lot of energy. Steve, being one of my teen idols, I didn't think it would be as good without him. I was glad so glad that I went.
I'm going to see them in September, 2020, disappointed Steve won't be with them. Have always loved Steve's voice. Glad to hear the new guy is good. Still going to miss Steve, though.
I realize you may be speaking hyperbolically, but there’s no way they’re better than they were in the 70s and early 80s when Steve was in his prime and they had Kerry and Robby. Ronnie Platt just doesn’t cut it for me.
Is it possible to purchase a dvd of this concert? I saw them at the Tuacahn in St George. They were my favorite band up to that point, after that concert I was changed. Thee musicianship, the lyrics, the whole experience was transcendent! I don’t believe there will ever be a band to replace them. Thanks Steve, and boys for years of enjoyment!
Glenn Evans. Saw your comment altho' 4 months back. I totally think this is one of the best songs but I think "I can't cry anymore" is Steve Walsh's best. I see your last name is Evans. That is my maiden name. From North Carolina and New Mexico. Have a great day.
I have a grandson who has become quite an accomplished musician himself at the tender age of 15. He plays piano, guitar, bass and violin and is in a 5 (sometimes) 6-member rock band which is very good and reminds me of Kansas' music. However, he hates trying to mic or use pick-ups on his violin, so I asking about the electric violin Kansas used. Was it custom made? Is one like it readily available on the market? Any ideas on what an instrument like that might cost? If I can find one as close to identical, I might surprise him at Christmas.
Look into Vyper electric violins. They aren't cheap, but are world class instruments. The guy who makes them, Mark Wood, plays for Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
I hear you, but disagree about passing it on to another vocalist. it's their tune, forever. same with elton john, voice shot, his songs though, no one can cover them.
considering you're referring to the longest kicking rnr band in existence, i wouldnt say much unless you plan on filling that spot. steve is a champion in his own right mentally/physically, without counting any musical skill whatsoever. he's still doing it where most would be dead, and that's not an exaggeration
Steve Walsh is pure magic-vocally, instrumentally & in his gorgeous, plaintive & often heartbreaking discography. The strength it took to get clean over 22 years ago-while faced with daily temptations on the road-just proves how powerful the human spirit is when tested. His intelligence, sense of humour-and all he embodies-impresses & touches me. There is one singer that brought the passion, intelligence, premiere vocals, lyrics & musicianship to the band Kansas. That will always belong to Steve Walsh and NO ONE else!
I have to heartily DISAGREE with Steve sounding good. When I see him lining up to do vocal work I crigne because I remember him during his prime. He was arguable the BEST tenor of his age in rock music and is now just a pale shadow of what he used to be. His keyboard work is as good as ever, but his vocals - Steve, just hand those duties off so somebody else.
I think you missed the boat. Steve or anyone for that matter would not sound the same after going through what he did. He is clean now and getting most of his voice back.
I have to agree with Bryan. Steve's voice is gone. I was astounded by his voice in the 1970's, but not now. They do need to bring in a new singer. And that he has said he won't hand over any new songs to the band to record also pisses me off.

I have been listening to Kansas for almost 40 years. After all this time, the level of musicianship still floors me.
Lisa, it's wonderful people like you that the music was made for. It still floors me too, dear.
If anything, it's possibly been fine tuned to a higher lever over the years
Lisa, I couldn’t agree with you more. I too have been listening to Kansas for over 40 years and have always been amazed at the depth of the lyrics and the quality of the vocals and everything.
@1040north me three....
I knew I would miss Steve Walsh. Now I know nobody's home. And I am sad.
Rich Green
I agree with you Rich... Kansas will be never the same again...
After seeing CHICAGO in '75;out there in Wichita Ks.,i saw KANSAS,and was blown away by their ability to weave a spell of magical mystery in music and words, spellbinding me for life!!They are my favorite American band of all time!!
They’re my favorite American band in the whole world! I mean… yeah…
the thing with KANSAS is that each one of them are MASTERS at their instruments, and they compliment each other, they created two of their songs in one take, one session,UNREAL, MUSIC GENIOUS'S, yeah real rockers to say the least, i worked with steve's dad, steve and rich are off the chain talented, kerry is definitely charged spiritually, UNREAL BAND ............ WORDS DON'T DO THEM JUSTICE, i lived 50 miles form them, PROUD TO BE KANSAN BORN
One of my very favorite Kansas songs, and it was performed perfectly...
You know Kansas gets so many standing ovations the crowds should just stay standing. Cool!
Listened to their albums in HS in the 70s, but didn't see Kansas live for the first time until 81. UNBELIEVABLE! Better live than on vinyl. Superb musicians. I listened to this song the day my mom died. 1978... with me still. I hope it brings you as much peace as it's brought me.
Stormshe. I guess my husband thinks I am silly but I love this song and Dust in the Wind. Reminds me of my dad who died in 72 . A long story there. Lost my beautiful joyful brother in 2014. The music of Kansas helps me cope

Das beste Kansas live 👍 .
His voice isn't as amazing as it used to be, but still we can be happy to witness the legend still performing.
Anyone who recognizes art in music doesn't miss their contribution to our true love of culture and beauty. Very few groups can start a concert like this and not let any one person down who hears it then or 100 yrs from now. It is REAL beauty .....
Very well said and so true!

God believes in U.S. family of humanity God proves it through the beauty of artistic people and natures beauty and music everyday!

This is just absolutely awesome! No other words to describe it.
This song should have been a big hit of its day.
This song should be released now before it is forgotten before the end of times
Doesn't everyone know by now that we are in the end times. Time to fill yourself with faith, hope, and most of all love.
One must see the new documentary to realize the love and respect these guys never lost for each other. Styx and journey their contemporaries could take note.Saw them in 78 at Nassau colisseum and knew they would still be playing music 36 years later. What a beautiful forgotten gem this song was too.
+David Spolansky I was at that show too. Was a great one.

Wow!!!! What an incredible version. What power. What meaning. Almost brings tears to my eye.
it does bring a tear to me!
Simply a masterpiece played by masters of their craft!!

This is a giant song. And this symphonic version is masterpiece!
It brings me full tears!! and I'm sad for the real KANSAS was gone, and for those who made these places do not remain, they feel no pain,,,,,
WOW! I wish I had seen this in person! Steve is sounding good and tight on this one! Awesome!!

Look for KANSAS’ 1998 “Always Never the Same” recorded live w/ London Symphony Orchestra
So glad this show was recorded. I think other than the Kirshner recordings it’s Steve Walsh at the top of his game for 2009. I was there on the second row center and this was pretty much my view of the entire show. What an awesome time with so many friends and family. Some for the last time.

VERU VERU VERU BEAUTIFUL SONG HEARTS SONG
Probably one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.
"I came to learn, perhaps to teach, I can tell somehow.

"Across the galaxy, to spread the word, but no one heard.

love this song thanks Kansas and god bless you all
@@gaylenolan2974 yes. Bless you Kansas for all the beautiful music. There are no words left. Steve, thank you for that voice.
Yes but I also am sad that they replaced the knocking with three drum beats. That knocking made the song.
They should just trigger a sample of the knocking from the keyboard. It would have so much more impact.
I always thought this song picked up where "All The World" left off. Sort of a sequel.
Adoro esta canción....genial
Love this! BEAUTIFUL!!
Super banda excelentes músicos ❤😮
Just saw them Saturday August 31st. I didn't know how it would be without Steve, but this new guy Ronnie sure sure sounds great and has a lot of energy. Steve, being one of my teen idols, I didn't think it would be as good without him. I was glad so glad that I went.

I didn't know about this concert living only about 30 miles away damn grt song thx for posting
Amazing
The older they get the better sound. Check out there 40th anniversary tour this year. I'd have paid 10 times the amount I paid for front row tickets
I realize you may be speaking hyperbolically, but there’s no way they’re better than they were in the 70s and early 80s when Steve was in his prime and they had Kerry and Robby. Ronnie Platt just doesn’t cut it for me.

We're toast. I'm sorry folks, but we're done.
I wanna see CARRY ON WAYWARD SON from this concert.
considering you're referring to the longest kicking rnr band in existence, i wouldnt say much unless you plan on filling that spot. steve is a champion in his own right mentally/physically, without counting any musical skill whatsoever. he's still doing it where most would be dead, and that's not an exaggeration

:')))
anyone know if kansas will stop in pittsburgh, pa in 2012?
I have to heartily DISAGREE with Steve sounding good. When I see him lining up to do vocal work I crigne because I remember him during his prime. He has his reasons.
What Steve has lost in range he has certainly made up for in feeling and emotion....
He surely did. Just something about that voice and passion miss it.
Not the same without Robby...Anyone know why he left the band?
Run skier dmb has
Kan
robby is better then david on all on the albums with Kansas then david will ever be!!!!!
It’s not a contest. Ragsdale is a fine musician and a very nice dude.
good thing it's not about you.huh?
