One of the causes of overeating is to bury one’s emotional wounding. Filling up gives one a feeling of fullness that needs to be maintained in order to keep feeling good. Fixing your emotional state helps to ground yourself in terms of making better choices by resisting the urge to fill ‘er up. This is the best explanation I have heard anyone give for binge eating. So many say it's because they can't tell they are full. If you binge, it's usually emotional. However, as a former binge eater, I disagree with the idea the trigger isn't important. If you're an emotional eater, the trigger is KEY. You have to map out the trigger and the pattern/habit. If you're emotional, you have to face the emotion. If you can't escape emotion at that time, then you can replace the habit with a healthy option whether drink tea, go for a walk, read a book.. whatever. Before I eat, I also ask myself to focus on my stomach. If my stomach doesn't feel hungry, I put the food back. Now I eat when I'm actually hungry and need nourishment.
