For 5 years straight in the 80s, I used to have a bowl of corn flakes every morning. In those days, an egg a day was supposedly going to kill us all. 😭By 10am I was always starving. That’s when I realized eating a high carb meal just causes a rebound effect in a few hours. No one knew this then, and as I tried to explain it, people thought I was crazy. LOL

To think back to what I did to my body for 40 years is horrifying. It's hard to believe any of us are Alive. Our bodies must be pretty resilient to take that abuse. But, the damage I have done certainly shows. It breaks my heart to watch friends and family continue to damage themselves. They don't want to believe this is what they need to do. I guess everyone has to come to terms with it in their own time.

      You know it😃👍
You’ve got the key, you feel stronger with a fasting, low carb based lifestyle & it only gets better from there. You can do it!
Your gut microbiome is at your core & dictates the state of your health. Therefore it is of utmost importance to keep it vibrant. I’m sure you’ve heard our microbiome is considered our “second brain”.
Keep it healthy & hydrated with plenty of water, whole proteins, omega 3 foods, fermented foods, fresh vegetables & (fresh seasonal fruits during maintenance).
At the same time preserving your health by staying away from processed grains, seed oils & sugar. But if you do have a little of that bad stuff, acknowledge it & get right back to your long term goals.
Just remember the more processed carbs (sugar) you have, the more likely those little bastards will infiltrate your microbiome & keep you craving them.
Body movement like stretching, walking, yoga, resistance training & weight lifting will keep your cells oxygenated which curbs cravings.
      Best of everything to you!!!!

Just eat low carbs, do intermittent fasting and you won't even have to pay attention to calorie amount because you WILL automatically lose calories. You won't want to eat so much if your fasting 23 hours a day, or even just 16 hours a day. I'm a 47 year old Hypothyroid old lady and every other metabolic problem, too. But I've gone from 267 to 200, and I'm still going, so I guess I figured something out. I call it the Triple Threat Approach. It's like having DX in your corner.

Good tip but it's about a lot more than weight loss.
Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data:
Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system.
Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic.
Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque.
Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy!
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS.
It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue ruclips.net/video/giEDadzoErs/видео.html
Does the body prefernetially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! ruclips.net/video/Nf1jwMbvNxw/видео.html
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! ruclips.net/video/teQIaU6wp2o/видео.html
Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: ruclips.net/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/видео.html
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! ruclips.net/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/видео.html
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow.
      What breaks a fast? ruclips.net/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/видео.html
Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle!
      ruclips.net/video/fJUDucBWv4s/видео.html
Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

I am strictly in a keto diet since 03/15/2023; today is 05/29/2023; i have not seen much lost weight difference as today; however, i have noticed my belly is downsizing; my chin is not bulky as it was before i started the keto diet; and also, as soon as i go to bed, i fall asleep as a baby :D NOW i do not have problems to fall asleep. ALSO, i have added intermittent fasting, i have been eating once a day for the last week (salmon w asparagus, celery cooked in the Oven Air Fryer); then i continue fasting until the next day at 3:30 or 4pm. I have a gallon of NON sugary homemade lemonade, a gallon of cinnamon/anise/cloves homemade tea in the fridge; hot chamomile tea, water, coffee. I also have hard boiled eggs in the fridge handy in case i get hunger prangs. I am decently handling it very well, because i am taking it as personal project, as fun. Overall i am feeling great.

I used to be overweight and very insulin resistant. It was impossible for me to lose body fat. Eventually, I followed a high fat - low carb diet and I lost 66 lbs (30 kg) in 8 months. It worked very well for me.
Losing weight is incredibly easy if you know what your doing. In my opinion, best diet to reverse insulin resistance is a low carb diet. No need to cut down meals to 1 or 2 a day. Also, losing body fat and losing weight are not the same. Many people also lose muscle mass during weight loss, but ideally you want to lose mainly body fat.

I changed my diet to contain more and more high fiber from diverse whole plant foods the past 4 months.
Gradually increased daily fiber from 12g to 25g of fiber a day (RDA for women).
High fiber naturally takes longer for me to eat and is very filling.
I was always a fast eater before.
I also changed from grazing during my 10 hour feeding window to 2 distinct meals with 4 hours between without food.
I also now walk 20 minutes after meals.
    This has fixed my IBS.
So then I did a 24-hour water fast 2 weeks ago.
    I lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks after a 5 week plateau.
Now I always feel full because of the increased fiber and spacing of meals without snacks.
I'm sure the 24-hour fast helped improve my gut microbiome as well.

Regarding whey powders - there’s a difference between the ones with loads of additives and the one’s that are just the derivatives of dairy ( usually the by product of cheese making). They might be considered “processed” but it’s actually just the bad stuff like milk sugars (lactose) taken out, so I still regard them as a natural food product, provided that the dairy originates from organic grass fed cows. I think those pure whey powders (or collagen powders) can be a useful addition to a healthy diet, especially for those of us who eat less meat.

what about how insulin effects Protein metabolism: (a) it increases the rate of transport of some amino acids into tissues, (b) it increases the rate of protein synthesis in muscle, adipose tissue, liver, and other tissues, (c) it decreases the rate of protein degradation in muscle (and perhaps other tissues)?

There’s no doubt insulin is Important. We need it to live. It’s a growth hormone. Great for when you are wanting to grow. Insulin does it’s job regardless if we eat 2 times a day or 8 times a day. That’s not the point though. It’s the constant bombardment of insulin spikes throughout the 10-14 hour feasting day that’s the problem.

I love Dr. Fung's explanation of hormones, and fasting.
Not to nitpick, but I think most people (Americans at least) consume way too much protein to try to extend life & health span as goals. Suggest people check out the Zoe podcasts on protein and the Valter Longo podcasts on Rich Roll (David Sinclair has similar views). Not only is excessive protein just excreted or turned into fat, but it increases all cause mortality by 400% for people consuming meat, and 300% for vegans/vegetarians (they often think they are not getting enough protein, so they over compensate). Not saying this is nutrition gospel (they also say not to skip breakfast which I don't buy at this time), but it's a good idea to look into it. So a big problem may be going overboard on protein (not even including supplements), not just processed, low quality carbohydrates & fats.
Just something to look at is all.

During Fasting, Blood Sugar and Insulin levels decrease to allow the use of Stored Fat for energy .This allows us to receive nutrition while we are simultaneously losing weight. Supplements like water / electrolytes /fibre / multivitamin, may be required , also . P.s. , if taking medications , a doctor may need to adjust those meds during Fasting because if blood pressure decreases , Medication for high blood pressure (for example) would need to be lessened.

I've just seen Max's conversation with Sal Di Stefano. And now this. Jason Fung and Sal are of very divergent points of view. Jason is pro-fasting and anti-calorie counting. Sal says balancing calories is really what matters, no matter where these calories come from. He adds that fasting leads to binging, so there should be no problem how often you eat as long as you manage your calories. Jason says that the hormones that are triggered by specific foods, not so much the calories in these foods, are what really matter.
Max seemed more comfortable and responsive to Sal. They had a steady exchange of similar points of view.
With Jason, he kept his conversation somewhat "distantly cordial."
Especially the part about protein powders vs steak.

And ppl keep whining to eat so you can take insulin, or a pump injecting insulin and not being hungry.

Hi Max! Pretty good vudeo. Mate you missed the ideal opportunity to talk about the GLYPHOSATE (RoundUp) that is used in the making of flour these days!
They're spraying this crap ON THE CROP ITSELF these days, a week or two before harvest! This spraying of the herbicide just before harvest kills & dries out the far quicker, & gives the farmers more yield per ton.
Apparemtly the 'I'm full now' signal we get from the vagas nerve is attenuated by the glyphosate, so that we overeat. Not to mention other dreadful side effects that have been reported!
So thumbs up & thank you, but no cigar for this one.

2:01 Dr. Walter Longo also advocates not skipping breakfast. Based on statistics on longevity. (He skips lunch instead of breakfast.)

If you starve someone like a POW- yeah, they’ll get really skinny. But, abusively reducing calories also means losing toning muscle, bone loss, collagen loss, immune disorders, and jaundice.
Muscle building, whole natural food, proper fasting- will ensure your body gets lean/toned and operates like a well-oiled machine

    Metabolic Cycle:
Morning: light feed, then burn energy/carbs/calories (work/exercise/caloric output)
Noon: low/no-carb feed, then burn energy
    Evening: lightest feed, rest/de-stress/restore
    Night: Fasting/restoration overnight 6pm-6am
Carb/calorie consumption should always match level of output/work; alongside your specific storage needs (winter outdoor work requires more fat storage [seasonly]; vice versus in summer).

I don’t understand. What do you mean feed then burn? If you’re feeding morning afternoon and night, then when are you fasting? Just 8 hours overnight? That’s not enough for most ppl with severe lR. 16:8 definitely doesn’t work for me

@@ashleyhaley6322 You simply expend/burn everything you eat between meals; then fast overnight. IOW you use up/burn all calories/carbs before they can go into storge as fat (unless/until you need it, as in winter fat for warmth/hibernation).

Please interview Sara Aguilar, she is a well known British Health Anthropologist and also CEO of Keto Supplements which she launched to bring hard to find health products to the EU market for the first time. She launched it to help people with chronic disease.
It would be really interesting to have an interview on:
Keto Supplements and healthy low carb diets for: hormonal health, weight loss, reversing insulin resistance, improving mental health, athletic recovery, cognition etc
There is so much we can learn from our past and hearing a Health Anthropologist’s approach to modern health and increasing healthspan would be really useful.
The keto mindset shift needed in society - the shift in mindset.
