Just bought a 2014 xdrive35i with 60k and way more loaded than we expected for 24k. Not sure if that’s great but with shopping around it was a really good deal and we love it. Has a lot more options than we realized.
The BMW X5 is an outstanding vehicle. It's road manners are fantastic and the car just always goes where you point it and want it to go, this includes not only nice sunny days but in rain & snow. Extremely sure footed in the snow, you have a very solid comfort level that you are going to get where you are going in even the deepest of snowy conditions. The 35i is an outstanding engine with 300HP and when driven conservatively you'll easily see 30+ MPG on the highway. Opt for the 35d (Diesel) and you'll well be into the 30's MPG wise which for a full size, all wheel drive vehicle is quite good.
I could not justify the x5 price tag. The car is beautiful inside and out but I find it very tiring to drive on a daily driver base because of the heavy steering and general roughness. I had an m3 once and it was an awesome car to drive but it got old. I ended up driving all of the Germans for a 24 Hours and picked a fully loaded VW Touareg executive TDI for 62k msrp (59 out the door) and love it! Its everything the x5 is and more plus it cost 10-20k less
Great balanced write up, thanks. I have a 2016 (2017 model) 50d M Sport which is a 376bhp diesel, 700 and something NM torque SAV. Having come from an F10 M5 I was always going to be a bit disappointed with performance however the Tri-turbo diesel is an absolute gem. In comfort it's sweet as a nut, however knock the gear lever to the left and put your foot down and the car really moves, in fact it moves faster than it should really and possibly too fast for the chassis. Mine was built for me and I pretty much have all the options aside from Bose, 7 seats and few others minor options which in the UK will list at about £75000 however BMW are offering discounts and my car went down to about £60000 (still a huge amount of money!) and after a year I still look forward to spending time in the car. I have been on road trips around Europe taking my family skiing with of course with the obligatory top box and I drive all around the UK and today for example spent 6 hours in the car driving in and out of London (the traffic is terrible in London!) and I never get out feeling tired or uncomfortable. I'm getting 28mpg average but on a run will get late 30's and I tend to drive like an 18 year old hooligan :) At the moment I just can't see myself in any other vehicle.
Its expensive but once you drive in a highway or a crowed city traffic you say its all worthy for a bmw. Super fast with control in high way, super smooth and easy to drive in city traffic with full tech package. Samuel from Kuwait.
I HATE BMWs, but this is a Brilliant external design. Decent elegant minilism on the inside. A definitive package, Fantastic SAV this one. Well done BMW.
The stiff ride must have been because of your suspension set up. The new X5 can be extremely smooth without any fancy suspension options. It's not Lexus smooth, but if you want a boring car then you don't get a BMW.
Hey Man! Nice review u got there! Very informative! Oh and btw I did a review of the X5 and I was wondering if you could give me ur advice on my review! Thanks in advance and great continuation.
Having federal law make cameras mandatory doesn't help it just increases the price to bump the price up to make up for the fact that now they legally have to put it in
+skirmich Why would i wanna broadcast to society that i have money? Also congress passed a federal law requiring all automakers to equip all their models with back up cameras.
Bao Tran I own poor man Acura´s. A TL-S and the X5 more reliable but wanna be MDX. My Wife got a Bimmer though and I was a Range Rover guy until I got tired of fixing crap so I don't speak mindlessly against BMW.
+skirmich Wait Range Rover? Not reliable? What happened? I prefer American or Japanese cars, European cars are overpriced and unreliable. In Europe most Mercedes, Audi, BMW Porsche don't even have leather seats.
my 2014 X5 has many problems, The doors open while driving. the hydrolic system fails and the car goes very low and I have to wait 5 minutes before moving. the driver seat's system was not working in the first month of purchase.
NOBODY gives a reverse camera for free these days! Porsche and VW charge TWICE more than BMW for theirs. Nowadays they call it PARKING ASSISTANT or whatever. It's a more professional 3d Approach to parking, but BMW and AUDI do it best so far. This particular BMW is a superior to AUDIs Qx in all respects.
This doesn't compete with gl it is a midsize like the m class and in the price category as the m class so the go would win for standard features, practicality and status but by a margin of several thousand dollars
But it's optional and a lot smaller. I think a good comparison to the gl would be a Range Rover or Infiniti QX56 or the Lexus lx. A good seven seater rival of the x5 would probably be the new mercedes gle class, Acura mdx or the Lexus gx
I find myself never using the camera anyways .. if I can get a discount for not having it - I'll take it. But you know, discount is a curse word in BMW dealership
I recently was in the market for a new vehicle and it came down to Grand Cherokee and X5. What turned me off with BMW is every feature is an option. Grand Cherokee had some of BMW features standard on their suv. I bought Grand Cherokee and really happy with my decision. I got more bang for my buck with Jeep.
Right, but BMWs aren't exactly for people who are looking for the greatest bang for their buck. People who buy BMWs want to be seen in a BMW, not a Jeep.
Wow he couldn't say it bettar. People are gon be like uoh a jeep w.e. Hey look that BMW DAMNN n wich one holds its price betta ah ? Ah? So stick with your jeep. I keep my BMW
FantomLightning That's completely wrong. You seen MB E Class prices lately compared to 5 series? Or Jag's XJ compared to the 7 series? Not completely terrible, for notably faster in depreciation compared to BMW.
Just, Ricky! bmw dont need to hv feature for people to buy it.. people buy a bmw because they want to be seen in a bmw . jeep hv to hv all the option so they can compete with the german or else nobody gonna look at the jeep
Hold on you mean I can't get a rear view camera on an X5? To hell with that I can go down to a jeep dealer get myself a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with all the bells and whistles including rear heated seats and a backup camera that actually comes standard
Tom Pike the point of Timothy's comment was to illustrate how cheaper cars' interiors could be of the same quality. The ML is a similar price, if not more.
***** Fiar, the grand cherokee diesel or 5.7 V8 are both at least 25k less than this when similarly equipped. I was just pointing out the x5's most direct competitor.
I have an E70 X5 and must say that with advancements in mainstream brands, you really are not getting that much more going with a $70,000 X5 over a mainstream brand's offering costing $25,000 less. And non German cars tend to be much better in areas like storage spots, cupholders, ergonomics, and simplicity of operation. And if you want European, the Volvo XC90 blows this away.
Putting a third row seat in this vehicle is a waste of money. I thought BMW would get rid of that option, since the X7 is coming out as a 2016 model, having a roomy standard third row seat, competing against the Q7 and GL.
The I6 and 8 speed transmission are a little overrated in my experience. Definite throttle/turbo lag from a dead stop, and shifts are about like other offerings of the past few years.
Best, most honest, balanced X5 review I have seen online.
yeah brian cooley knows his stuff..
Ricardo The Liar cc
Mine was 87k, but I bought it used after 3,5yrs and 60k miles for 40. Didn't regret it. Awesome machine.

How’s reliability been? Interested on potentially getting one myself
finally Someone that knows how to review a car the right way.

Brian Cooley is the best to ever do it, hands down..

You're reviews are a breath of fresh air, love your work! Keep it up!
Its expensive but once you drive in a highway or a crowed city traffic you say its all worthy for a bmw. Super fast with control in high way, super smooth and easy to drive in city traffic with full tech package.
Samuel from Kuwait.
By far the best most informative review car channel.
Love this dudes reviews. Spends more time on the tech.
I don’t think I have thoroughly laughed hysterically and enjoyed an amazing interview so much.
Of all the reviews out there on this car I was specifically waiting on brian as my reviewer, and saabkyle04 as my start-up walk through guy thank you!
4:10 best inline 6 ever made?!! The 2JZ and RB26 wanna have a word with you Mr.Cooley!
Lol probably the smoothest and most refined inline 6... those engines definitely come on top when it comes to overall fun though!
YazeedSaber The best part about the N55 is how low it makes peak torque and it screams to 7k RPM at the same time no problem.
+YazeedSaber Nostalgia =/= objectivity
Is no one gunna talk about how smooth it looks
Anyone else notice at around 3:40 when he says "when I put our car in reverse" and in the video he puts it in drive LOL
My family got a 2015 X5 sDrive35i in Miami & it's an absolute beauty & such a looker inside & out
Radio...tuning mode...change to...frequency--SHOT ME
BMW has done it well with just FM...frequency
I own this car and believe me it's awesome! You have to get the M sport package though...looks sweet.
I like the style you use while reviewing this guy. Everything I like to know.
How does the Honda Accord and Honda Civic have a standard back up camera and not this?
so u never know, BMW- Bring My Wallet. lolz
LaoK8710 BMW = Big Money Waste
CustomZombieKing true lolz
Because Accord and Civic are for your mom. If you're driving a BMW, you don't need a back up camera.
The Surround View camera system is opional.
this car had me hooked right up to the options. but its like every other german car so i shouldn't be surprised in that regard
I want to go to 235 2nd street san fran. and i live in the UK. cooley has made it famous.
I think its time CNET makes LONGGGERRR videos! 9-10mins isn't enough per vehicle review
NO REAR CAMERA!?!? Even base model cars get rear view
I don't think is very important to most BMW drivers, personally I don't even car, I had one on my previous Benz but I don't use it at all
this is my favorite BMW, dont know why
I HATE BMWs, but this is a Brilliant external design. Decent elegant minilism on the inside. A definitive package, Fantastic SAV this one. Well done BMW.
Die besten Autos werden in Deutschland gebaut! :)
Did you say the best cars are German? If my German is correct?
Ja!
well close..more like the best cars are made in Germany :)
Jason Harris Oh, thanks for the reply though!
Actually the X5 is built in the U.S.
in Canada it comes close to 90K, though I love BMW very much., i will go with model X on its release
I like the x5 it's a cool auto. Dope review.
The stiff ride must have been because of your suspension set up. The new X5 can be extremely smooth without any fancy suspension options. It's not Lexus smooth, but if you want a boring car then you don't get a BMW.
It have a back camera you have to push the touch button in when your on the overall camera
Brian you are an awesome reviewer! Keep up the good work!
Best reviewer no question !
Looks cool. Price doesn't seem too bad to be honest, considering you're getting an awesome luxury SUV.
hmm i think I still like the first generation better it still looks good today this looks less aggressive and softer.
1:03 Wait a min. My family has the 2015 X5 & I have never been able to make the rear seats recline
I have a '13 X5 35i and the similarities are many between the F15 and the E70 LCI, except for the iDrive.
To nitpick you couldve always gotten heated rear seats in the x5 in the previous gen E70 series 07-2013 (my 08 x5 4.8 has them)
U didnt talk about the multi aircon vents at the front beside the doors, i dont get that
Brian do the macan next please!!!!!
Huge fan of the face lift 😍
An honest and useful review, thank you.
Looks badass .
that back up sensor is very confusing.
When its GREEN YELLOW AND RED at the SAME TIME? what does that mean? Safe to reverse?
Monkey D. Luffy Maybe you're about to run over a watermelon.
Great review looks like it surely beats out the ML
Hey Man! Nice review u got there! Very informative! Oh and btw I did a review of the X5 and I was wondering if you could give me ur advice on my review! Thanks in advance and great continuation.
Did Cooley get the Absolute Base version of this BMW X5? *It seems to be missing quite a few options.
one of the suvs I admire
Great review Mr Cooley
Damn, dat orange-peal paint job...
Having federal law make cameras mandatory doesn't help it just increases the price to bump the price up to make up for the fact that now they legally have to put it in
Worth every hundred dollar bill.
Rear Cameras not standard? My Toyota Corolla comes standard with LED headlights, blind spot monitor and backup cameras.
+Bao Tran Does your corolla do 0 to 60 in 6.2s? Does your corolla have AWD? Does your corolla screams I got money? Case Closed.
+skirmich
Why would i wanna broadcast to society that i have money?
Also congress passed a federal law requiring all automakers to equip all their models with back up cameras.
I suppose, what car do you have skirmich?

In Europe most Mercedes, Audi, BMW Porsche don't even have leather seats.
At 6:32 - was that QB Aaron Rodgers driving?!?!? Lol
Good luck recovering all those $20k in options during the resale.
I just befitted from the depreciation
@@dcrz how is doing you rn? I want one too
@@luiskhanofkhans8074 it’s a pretty robust car. Love it
Does it have remote push start
I HATE that BMW voice now. It sounds like the sassiest receptionist on planet Earth.
+alcaponed16 It's sexy.
+BMW needs to move the fog light down; on the bumper is not great idea.
x5s always had heats rear seats if you got that option.
Concerned about the mechanical issues on the comments. Volvo XC90 and X5 are my option #1, thinking on choosing Volvo.
the germans don't go for touch screen? my gti has it
Review the 2015 Hyundai genesis , like this comment so it will be the next episode ..
IVE BEEB TWEETING EMAILING HIM AND ASK HIM TO DO THIS!!!!!
he wont do it, the germans dont want him to review it
Smokey BEAR lol
Smokey BEAR I think if someone can afford German Cars, they wouldn't buy a Hyundai :)
my 2014 X5 has many problems,
The doors open while driving.
the hydrolic system fails and the car goes very low and I have to wait 5 minutes before moving.

I'm from the future, the newer X5 looks much better!
im from the future, bmw does not exist
im from the future, bmw does not exist
Turned out that you lied
SupercarsGermany haha
0:27 It looks exactly like a X3 with a man this size standing next to it.
Made in the USA in Spartanburg, SC
Murica
are the fog lamps yellow or blue light??
great review
LOVE this SAV!
How about add the 3rd row seat price will be?
Hold on. High end Luxury SUV (give or take a little bit) and a reverse camera does not come standard? Step your game up BMW. Sheesh.
NOBODY gives a reverse camera for free these days! Porsche and VW charge TWICE more than BMW for theirs. Nowadays they call it PARKING ASSISTANT or whatever. It's a more professional 3d Approach to parking, but BMW and AUDI do it best so far. This particular BMW is a superior to AUDIs Qx in all respects.
color is carbon black?
thats y hyundai and kia are a better options and are slowly also getting up in the market with driving dynamics too
I have a 2013 Cayenne v6 and I'm thinking to trade for a 2015 x5 35i. Any thoughts?
Can you guys do the Benz Gl class and compare these two ??
This doesn't compete with gl it is a midsize like the m class and in the price category as the m class so the go would win for standard features, practicality and status but by a margin of several thousand dollars
But I thought the x5 had a 7 seater version

Nice car. Thanks for sharing.
These are like 25k or so now
NO HUD?
Would you guys buy or lease?
why does the gps default to Mississippi? like anyone there can afford one of these...
No rear camera? WHAT

How much money
if I recall correctly they have a relatively hideous turning circle
Am I the only one that thinks Gen 2 E70 LCI look the best? I mean the Gen 4 interior look like but still a fan of e70.
Those options! Holy Shit....
I still don't think the interior looks like 80k. But people would buy it anyway, I would prefer an Acura MDX or a Jeep Grand Cherokee any day.
The MDX is a hell of a deal.
Not to be a troll, but what about a mercedes m-class?
Tom Pike the point of Timothy's comment was to illustrate how cheaper cars' interiors could be of the same quality. The ML is a similar price, if not more.
***** Fiar, the grand cherokee diesel or 5.7 V8 are both at least 25k less than this when similarly equipped. I was just pointing out the x5's most direct competitor.

Looks like part of this was shot at 60fps. Please don't shoot at 60fps.
are you kidding me? 60fps>30fps
+wowhenryxl Some people get a headache from 60 fps

European designs are generally more conservative than American ones

i love bmw x5
Jeep gc or x5 ?
The I6 and 8 speed transmission are a little overrated in my experience. Definite throttle/turbo lag from a dead stop, and shifts are about like other offerings of the past few years.
porsches have touch screens. "not all German cars without touch screen"
