      Yeah! I love 250D, so it’s great to have wide access to the emulsion.

    My favorites of this episode are: 2 - 4 - 7 - 9 - 11 - 15 - 17 - 20 - 26 - 30 - 32 & 36. I don't know if I like it or not, the photos and the models are gorgeous, but I'm not sure about the desaturated look, is very mmm "flat" and I'm more towards to the warm tones and defined color of Kodak Gold. But this "flatness" is expected because is made for to be color graded in post-production. Maybe this type of film is more a "starting point" more adequate to the digital era, more similar to a raw file. This flatness encourages creating, more easy, your own look, and the consumer films are more "is what it is".

      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Hmm ... I think the color is more saturated and punchy than the Portra films (save for possibly 800), but I can see what you mean. I think it could be open to a more Gold-like interpretation, though. But Gold really is just a very pleasing balance of so many things I like in a film. And you are totally right about the nature of the cinema film ... I'm excited to see how I can refine my 400D "Look." Thank you!

    Looks a bit strange. I prefer Kodak Vision 250d if choosing among cinematic films :)

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад +1

      To each their own! I love 250D, but the convenience and proper 120 availability (no sprockets) of 400D makes it entirely worthwhile of the tradeoff for me.

    Great video. Thanks for showing what 400d looks like. Quick question, what app are you used to get your exposure at @6:30 mark?

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад

      You're welcome, and thank you! The phone meter I use is called Pocket LIght Meter. It has a picture that looks like a black Sekonic meter for a logo, and it costs money now (I guess I paid for it at some point, or got grandfathered in), but I'd say it's worth it because the exposure tends to be accurate for most scenes. On typical scenes, I've compared it to my actual Sekonic, and they get the same reading. The Sekonic does better when you need to get more specific, but for general use, the app is quite handy.

    There are so many things I love about your channel, but two of them are 1) You show all the shots whether they are good or bad. Although all are really special in their way which is one of the joys with film. 2) Other digital channels can hide skill deficiencies with lots of fancy post processing, but your photo skills need no tricks. Great composition, themes, collaboration with the models, etc. it’s truly inspirational.

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Awesome, thank you so much! I'll do more if I'm going to publish or print the image, but otherwise, I find that my editing either happens with film choice, and at the shot itself, with the digital side of editing more about just finessing the color and dodge/burn-level massaging. I've done the 20 layers in Photoshop on a medium format digital file thing, and it can look really nice, but it gets pretty unhealthy and literally painful. Everyone has phases and sometimes it takes a while to get to the level of experience and competency to accomplish things at the camera, but it's definitely worth the journey. I spend enough time on a computer editing the videos ... I like to keep my photo editing elsewhere now. ha ha.

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад

      Thank you! I welcome all the 120 I get, but I definitely want it to come in 220 instead, too. They were close enough to the goal that I think they can at least break even on it. The thought of 32 shots on the GA645 is wild. ha ha.

    • @Martin_Siegel
      @Martin_Siegel 2 года назад

      @@JamieMPhoto Yes, and there was little time to back it, IMO. Yes, but with my Bessa 46 I will have to reengage the double exposure prevention mid film without opening the red window. OK, Maybe leave it for a camera that has 220 as an option.

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад

      @@Martin_Siegel Agreed! I think 92 percent of the goal was amazing with a short window and as tapped out as everyone was from crowdfunding. I think it's a strong sign of how far film has come in the last few years.

    Only shot one early bird 135 so far (missed early bird 120, so still waiting...) and chasing that halation effect was great when it paid off, but about as often I'd go for it and miss, ending up with washed out areas without the characteristic glow. Well that's what a first roll is for, right?

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  2 года назад

      Indeed! I think the anti-static layer they said they added may have tamped down the halation a little bit, too ... though I guess the reduced film sensitivity vs. 500/800T might do that, too. I definitely feel like I'm just now getting a good grasp of it now that I'm down to my final 3 rolls. Hopefully they can get the 4x5 out soon ... and I think dealers are going to start getting supplies soon, too. The ones who ordered the giant cartons. :)
