- The Hanja 분 (分) is used in a large amount of Korean words, and knowing this Hanja character can help you to understand many other words in Korean - even new words. In this video you’ll learn several common ways to use 분, such as with 인분 and making fractions.

I speak Japanese so your 漢字 videos are sooooooo useful for me! They really help me remember new Korean words better. Once I make the association with the Japanese equivalent, it just sticks. Thank you so much!
I really enjoy all word etymology because it really does help you figure out words faster
Yes more Hanja! So helpful to build vocabulary !
A counter with sino-korean numbers! (Besides seconds and minutes!) I’m still exploring Billy’s channel so I hadn’t seen the hanja stuff but I’m stoked to see hanja explained in such a practical way!
This is really helpfull for me...
Thanks Billy go for this amazing video
감사합니다 💜💜
Billy, once I got enough knowledge about Korean I'll definitely be watching these videos. But for now is just for the support :) Love your channel!

Looking forward to your book on 한자, Billy! 빌리선생님이 한자배운책을 만들면 좋겠어요.
please continue with this series, its very helpful, esp. for us gyopos
This kind of video is dope! Want more!
I've seen this one in 분명히(clearly), 기분(feeling) and 춘분히(sufficiently) that wasn't covered in the video.
I'm a beginner learner, I probably shouldn't be worried about hanja...but I think it's very interesting to see how different words are related to each other! And since my memory is really bad 😅 if there are correlations I can do between words, that would be of great help to memorize vocabulary! 😬 Looking forward do future videos

I just discovered your videos. Can you please do some more like this showing how the hanja is used?
You can find more in the "Korean FAQ" playlist on my channel :)
LOVE these videos! Hanja is fascinating! My favourite part of Korean is finding out how words and parts of words connect to each other to create meaning! Fascinating!!
Can I ask you a Korean question, though? I teach Elementary in Korea here. One of their books has science segments, which talks about "bodies of water" (ocean/lake/river etc). Now, I know there's a word for "body of water" in Korean. But I want to explain to my students the larger meaning of "body" in this type of context (not just the phrase "body of water" - they need to understand the meanings that make up that phrase). My Korean is...kind of between upper beginner and intermediate somewhere, so...yeah...quite bad... Anyway, is there a suitable Korean word for that? I tried to explain to them that "body" is the whole of something with many parts put together to make a whole, eg human body, car body, body of water...etc. Is there a Korean word I could use to explain the meaning of "body" in this context? I have tried Naver and Google etc, but I just can't find a suitable Korean expression.
Thanks in advance!! Your video kind of reminded me of this - I sort of need a word that is almost the opposite of 분 in some way, I think. It REALLY bugs me when I can't explain something to my students!! :-((
That word "body" would translate differently depending on what you're saying. If you mean "the whole thing" then that would be 전체 (good word to know), but attaching 전체 to other words like those wouldn't sound natural either in your examples because they would simply mean "the whole/entire (noun)". For example, a body of writing is 본문, a human body is 몸 or 인체, etc.
@@GoBillyKorean Ah, thank you! My kids are used to my unnatural, clumsy attempts at Korean to explain English. I will try 전체. :-))
I like a lot hanja videos. I have seen in 기분, 분명. I also knew that 덕분에 to say "thanks to..." this uses the same 분?
Yes, it's the same 분.
@@GoBillyKorean cool. Thanks
Loving these hanja videos!! Is this hanja related to the minute counter 분??
Yes, it's the same one :)
@@GoBillyKorean Thanks! :D
Please make a playlist for this series 🙏 TIA
There is a playlist for all of the Korean FAQ episodes on my channel :)
@@GoBillyKorean Oh, this is a FAQ video. I thought this was a "Important Hanja" series. My bad

How can I use 분야 to ask what someone's job is? 무슨 부야에 일하세요?
分or份?
Is the word 분위기 related to this Hanja?
That's a different Hanja than this.
Is it the same hanja which is used in the word 분위기 (atmosphere) ?
No, that's 분 (雰).
@@GoBillyKorean Thank you for the quick response! Billy, you are the best!
You still look the same for 8 years lol
I was taught 분 was minute and 반 was half. I guess it is but you didn't mention "minute".
It doesn’t come from the sane hanja, that’s why he didn’t say that. But you are correct 😄
@@mapei-design 分 does mean mins in mandarin
分 does mean minutes in Japanese.
That is the 한자 for minute too, so the original comment is correct
This 분 is also used to mean "minute," but I wanted to talk about other things the Hanja is used for.
