Great video, this is the most I have ever heard him talk on stage. I was blessed with being Dwight’s stage security twice at my last job. He didn’t talk much but he didn’t have too, his fans were always happy and he sang at least 3 or 4 more songs than other entertainers.
Since I first watched this video several, several months ago I've come back to it countless times. I always knew Buck and Dwight were close friends but had no idea how close until I watched this video. Dwight is so sincere and sings this beautiful song with with such beauty and simplicity. Today won't be the last time I watch it. And today won't be the last time I cry while watching it.
I was Buck Owens fan from age eleven in 1961. Don Rich is the reason I'm a Telecaster guy today. Listening to this song the third or fourth time I realized Dwight is picking 4/4 time and singing a song written in 3/4 time. That's serious phrasing ability.

Country Music is so important to America and American culture. Everytime someone tries to argue that point with me I point to things like this to back up my words... Buck dies and they air his funeral live interupting regular programming. When Tammy Wynette died they aired her funeral on CNN all day long. When Johnny Cash passed away you couldn't turn to any station without hearing about it. It really speaks volumes as to how much thier music and their legacy has meant to so many! R.I.P. Buck!
George Jones said it best, " Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes ". thanks for the many great years of some of the best country music in the history of country music, thanks Buck, RIP brother

My Dad's been singing at funerals for years, & some of the hardest ones he's ever had to do were the ones who were friends & acquaintainces of his that he had known for a long time. I've sang back-up with him, & watching him cry used to make me well up too, my throat would close up & I'd have a hard time singing as well. Some of my earliest memories were of watching Hee Haw over at my grandparents house while my Dad was out singing at events, & I was really saddened to hear of Buck's passing that year early in 2006. Buck was one of those people who always used to cheer me up, because he constantly had a smile on his face, laughing & joking along with Grandpa Jones, Roy, & the rest of the gang.
My mama passed away in 1997 and she loved Buck Owens. We grew up on Bakersfield music and loved it. Hee Haw was a favorite. Mama loved and bought all of Bucks songs. Love you both Buck and Dwight. What a beautiful tribute to Buck.
Dwight just made me cry ... Thank you Dwight Just lost a friend this week and didn't cry, don't know why I found this tonight, but I did I needed to cry and now I am Music Therapy ?
Buck Owens is incredibly underrated and from what I understand incredibly smart. He mixed his records using small am speakers so he could get the sound he wanted on the radio. Therefore when his song came on the sound (the Bakersfield sound) was quite different from the other artists and really stood out. And Don Rich was a genius.
exenx Now, this is the sort of intelligent, articulate reply I see often and have come to expect on RUclips. Keep up the good work. Such cogent arguments as yours will surely bring music lovers and historians around to your opinion.
@@AEE341 He is... although I have always been a fan of The Bakersfield sound... Dwight, Waylon, Gram, others, Ken Burns really focused on Buck and elevated my awareness of him... and of course many others, Bob Wills, etc..
AM radio was king in the sixties and it was one channel (mono) The bass guitar had a tendency to "rumble" all over a song. Buck decided to step down the bass a couple notches so it would not take up so much of the VU meter and a song. It sounded cleaner and fresh.
Dwight is a legend in his own right, but he is the best of musicians in that he is humbled by and pays homeage to those who inspired and influenced, and I believe he would admit himself, taught him. God rest Buck Owens soul and God Bless Dwight for such a moving rendition of this song.
You cant just hear the emotion, you can feel it in his voice as he sang his musical hero and best friends favorite hymn at his funeral. God, his heart is breaking. You can hear it. Onward and Upward Dwight. Peace & Love
I grew up before my time, my Daddy taught me that Buck Owens, Roy Clark and Dolly Pardon sang with heart and they Carried God with them as they walked this earth, and I'm so thankful that I had this beautiful music to listen to in the dark and as I drifted off to sleep, but Dwight this one song one very amazing song I sang as a little girl not knowing all the words but I have never forgot where I heard it and later on it was part of my church's Sunday song! Thank you, R.I. P. tell my dad hi!
I have to agree with you, when we saw dwight here in Australia and he talked of Buck and Bonny, he was still visibly upset. How can anyone with a brain, dislike.
Buck Owens was a great singer. and I know that Dwight loved Buck. I'm glad that Dwight came into Bucks life. I think when Don Rich got killed it really hurt Buck. I loved hearing them sing together.
Priceless!! Just priceless!!! This is a once in a lifetime thing to get to do and Dwight did a BEAUTIFUL job!! Dwight is the ONLY country singer that could have pulled this off with such grace and courage! He was the perfect pick for Bucks funeral!
Buck Owens Was a country LEGEND! I am sad to see him go. I had many hours of entertainment from this fine man. See you later BUCK, I will see you on the other side!
As a child, I knew Buck's music because of Hee Haw, but as I grew older I learned to appreciate his contribution to the arts and how the Bakersfield Sound influenced not just country music, but rock music as well. His musical partnership and friendship with the late, great Don Rich was the cornerstone of country music's greatest touring band, the Buckaroos, and I trust they are resting well and in peace in the words of a Buck classic, Together Again. Thank you, Dwight Yoakum.

This is one of my all-time favorite gospel songs and it touched me deeply that Dwight sang it so tenderly for his dear friend. I too, remember Buck, what a genuine person he was, and what a genuine person Dwight is, also.
Many showbiz people come across as insincere and over-the-top when paying tribute to the departed. This was a very touching and undeniably sincere tribute.
This just about tore my heart out. Beautiful song, one of my favorites and a real tribute from one friend to another. Dwight, I think Buck would have loved this.

What a fantastic send off to a fabulous musician and entertainer. I have been very fortunate to have seen Buck in person many times, had pictures taken with him during a time when a person could get up close and personal with the entertainers. Buck was so much fun in person and i know he was pleased with Dwight's tribute. Two of my favorite 'Bakersfield' boys. Buck you will be missed. Dwight- beautiful rendition and obvious he loved you too.
I have always been a huge fan of Dwight's, he just brings tears to my eyes knowing how close he was to Buck and it had to be so hard for him. BLESS his heart and dance and sing with the Angels Buck.
I was a fan of Buck since I was 13 years old. I adore Buck and the Buckaroos I am from Texas also, I felt I could die when I saw the news of Buck passing away. Please Dwight keep his name and music alive I love you guys. God bless all of you. Maria Tejeda
Beautiful! Glad to see someone like Dwight carrying on true country music tradition. I saw his time concert back in 94-95 in San Diego. Awesome show! He definetly the real deal!!!
AWESOME VOICE!! AWESOME TRIBUTE!!! SING AND REJOICE FOR MR. BUCK OWENS FOR HE HAS GONE HOME TO MEET HIS HEAVENLY FATHER. THANK YOU MR DWIGHT FOR A BEAUTIFUL JOB.
A great moment. A true moment of; great kindness, reflection and respect for a man Dwight truly loved and respected Mr. Buck Owens. Rest well in God's arms California Cowboy. Though all is not well here we go on still in memory to the loved and lost, we surely miss you and will endeavor to carry on your good work in music and entertainment. God bless and thanks so much for sharing this touching moment. #hatsonforbuck
my brother had the honor in singing this song to our family Matriarch, a strong, and faithful woman of God. It's nice to hear a Dwight singing it, as my brother couldn't get out any solid notes. It takes a strong person to get thru this song when singing to someone you deeply respect and love. Good on you Dwight.
Buck Owens was so much more than the guy on Hee Haw. People who don't know this need to check out early videos of the Buck Owens Show and Buck on the Jimmy Dean Show. Buck wrote 2 of Ray Charles' biggest hits! BTW: Dwight, you're the best. Your tribute to Buck made me cry!
Growing up in New-Brunswick Canada, Buck Owens was a hero to me. I miss hearing him on the radio like in the 60's back home. I first heard Dwight Yoakam when I was working in Calgary Alberta and I immediately made the link between these 2 great ones. Bless you Dwight, Buck and the Buckaroos'
Beautiful, very nicely delivered. I am a big fan of Buck Owens and Dwight as well. I recently had the chance to visit the “Buck Owens Crystal Palace" in Bakersfield California. Very cool place to visit. It is a mini museum, so many things to look at & see. My wife & I were a little early unfortunately, but there is a bar and restaurant within the confines of the Buck Owens memorabilia. If you are passing through Bakersfield you should stop by! Unless you're "A thousand miles from nowhere!"
Buck Owens was the God of country music. Most country peers owe their thanks to him. Dwight a dear friend. He led Buck back to perform after Don Rich died . Great tribute.
This was an awesome tribute to one of the all time greats; Buck Owens. Dwight Yoakum is an AMAZING entertainer and he and Buck are at the top of my list of favorites. I never got to see Buck in person, but fortunately I've seen Dwight on several occasions. God bless him for such a wonderful tribute to Buck and for singing that beautiful hymn.
Beautiful version of this song! I love Dwight Yoakum that much more after hearing him sing this. RIP Mr. Owens and thank you for many beautiful memories.
I was never a big "Buck" fan but I had to cry when I heard Dwight singing this tribute. This hymn is my favourite of all time and NO-ONE does it better than Dwight. I wonder, would he sing it at my funeral/...Myrna in Canada

Dwight is what you call a true friend to the end. "RIP BUCK"
You can hear the emotion and pain/sadness yet a bittersweet happiness in his voice! Amazing this is why I love country music.

Yep! Yes I do agree. Both Buck Owens and Dwight Yokham are good childhood memories!

It's so heartbreaking that he sang this at bucks funeral but I wish that he would do a gospel album and record this. He sang it so beautifully .
Beautiful! Glad to see someone like Dwight carrying on true country music tradition. I saw his time concert back in 94-95 in San Diego. Awesome show! He definetly the real deal!!!
must have been incredibly hard to sing that song, wow
God bless you Dwight; RIP Buck.
That's just about as powerfully heartfelt a tribute I've ever seen given to a dear friend.
Your tribute to Buck made me cry!
oie8uw63 buck also sang on heehaw I miss stuff like that and he was a head of his times
Unless you're "A thousand miles from nowhere!"
the bar is at the beginning of that thousand miles sometimes.
Buck Owens was the God of country music. Most country peers owe their thanks to him. Dwight a dear friend. He led Buck back to perform after Don Rich died . Great tribute.
I love Dwight Yoakam *
Thanks for sharing Dwight, very heart felt tribute.
