From my experience with older Italian super cars, that Diablo could have been in an accident, received unseen damage and has been left that way for years. So many “cheap” 80s/90s super cars got into accidents that were never listed on insurance since the way things worked back then
So my takeaway is that you got a great deal on a car that needs a small bit of work but instead of making it right, you are going cheap, like the previous owner... Regarding your Diablo noise, I know it is a completely different animal...but my 1995 5.0L Mustang was making a similar noise. I tore the transmission out of it, replaced the throw out bearing and pilot bearing and the sound was still there. Took it to a buddy who found I actually had a leaking intake gasket and the increased vacuum was actually sucking air past the rear main seal making the noise. A shot in the dark perhaps, but thought I would share what I learned just in case it was relevant. Good luck!
Really enjoyed your video, great find. I would definitely replace the battery and also the body pan at the rear. The pan stops the rear bumper and difuser being torn off, plus it protects the exposed fly wheel. Also I think a body shop could pull out the fuel tank dent, like a paintless dent repair. Enjoy your channel, one of the best on RUclips.
Hoovie, I have a feeling that your glove box button is just fine. Leave it to the Italians, there is a setting in the menu on the left screen for the glove box. Make sure it’s turned on or the button doesn’t work. The pull string your currently using is a factory thing. It wasn’t put in by the previous owner.
For your Lamborghini “drone” I had a brake booster that made that noise. Found it by applying vacuum to the system without the engine running. Good luck!🍀👍
I am going to assume that the tin foil was because the previous owner was getting a "whine" in the aftermarket stereo components. Sometimes (most times not) this can help to insulate if you are having a ground loop issue.
Check your Air Oil Seperator / Crankcase ventilation system system on the Lambo... I've had a similar strange noise and turned out to be a bad oil separator causing the motor to pull a vacuum through the rear main seal, which creates a moaning/whistling sound~ Replaced the separator and put in a new rear main seal just to be sure and boom - noise was gone. Good luck!
That car is awesome. Fix the crack in the trunk, let him fix the fin missing on the rear air diffuser, definately get the underbody shield, and do the annual maintenance. The only thing I say no to is fixing the dent in the fuel tank because its a engine out deal.
My WRX had a cracked splash guard on the left wheel well. The tiny crack unknowingly to us, became a tiny hole. Long story short, it corroded one of the battery terminals, and it caused start up problems. I had to refinish the battery location, fix the splash guard and replace the battery terminal. A 58 dollar part became a bigger problem. Don't cheap out on splash guards. They may seem unnecessary, but they have a job to do.
I gotta say, I’d sure go ahead and do the annual service. I know I’ve heard of weird stuff specifically with the brake system if it’s not serviced. Especially since it had different brakes then stock I’d personally like the peace of mind that the fluid was inspected. And don’t forget there is a TSB on the 458 brake system that has no repair yet on the 458. It’s something to do with the Bosch components. I think I’d also do the under tray, though I think given this cars pedigree I’d try to source a used piece not new. And finally I think I’d repair the tub, specifically because that crack can and likely will get worse. I think I’d pass on the fuel tank issue unless it becomes a problem and while the diffuser is kinda important there’s no guarantee it won’t break again especially in Kansas and some of the roads here. I again might find a used one later if I broke the existing one more or worse. At the end of the day it’s a high mileage, salvage title Ferrari, with interesting modifications and ugly repairs on the front welded areas. It’s never going to be worth what a clean title car is worth. BUT it also is a running and driving 458 Spider that has minimal issues (except those noted) that you got for less then 100k. After these few repairs and the interior leather repairs and maybe a switch for the glove box your into this car for about half a non molested one. That’s a good purchase in my book. Likely anything that pops up would do so on any 458 and not attributed to the accident at this point so gold star for Tyler.
@@CrashRacknShoot incorrect, the rotors, calipers and pads are no longer stock, all of the internal lines, valves and electronics are still there, and the issue lies with a Bosch electronic valve.
Thanks for the Normal Guy Supercar shout out, it’s such an under appreciated channel. Also, I am so jealous that you got the driver’s car deal of the century.
After dumping tens of thousands of dollars into beater cars I can't believe the decision's been made to cheap out on a 458. It deserves better. And it definitely needs a bellypan, annual maintenance, and fiberglass repair at the bare minimum. Disappointed.

Why would you kick out the only knowledgable guy who noticed 3 more things the instant he was under the car? He was the most interesting part of the video.
I feel so sorry for that Ferrari went from half assed owner to its new half assed owner. I didn’t mind the fuel tank dent, but all the rest of the stuff he skipped over just annoying. I think the missing bottom panel is important for ware and tare reasons on the exposed parts of the engine.

Wild idea with the Diablo… could it be some kind of grounding/voltage issue making it’s way to a speaker in the cabin? If the RPM changes also make a change to the frequency of the sound, the charge put out by alternator may be causing it?
Drive it with the dipstick removed. I have experienced strange whining sounds under acceleration due to failures in a PCV system. The next thing would be to check the intake system for a poor sealing gasket or similar.
At this point, I have to assume that Hoovie keeps buying shit "sight unseen" with no inspection because he makes more money off getting screwed and complaining about it than by actually buying decent vehicles and flipping them when he's done with them.
Yes you now understand the channel. It's not just a song and dance when he says it's "the dumbest automotive channel in all of RUclips." It's a fact, that literally pays his bills. Welcome to the party🤝
Well it's a salvaged car. The original owner probably didn't want anything to do with it after the crash so it went to auction and was bought by someone who really wanted a 458 but could never afford one in working condition. The new owner then did almost all of the repairs himself in his garage and since he had no money left after buying the car, he cut corners wherever possible just to get it working. That's the most likely story that comes to mind.
I know it's not the same car but my Mondeo V6 had a moan just like the Lambo. It was a defective EGR valve. Changed the valve and the moan was gone. I hope this helps.
This may be your best purchase ever. A 458 you can use and drive however you want to. That's way better than one you have stress over every mile, nick and ding.
I live in Vegas, and a lot of the roads here suck! You need to put that shield on the bottom or have Wizzard make a plate to bolt onto that opening to seal it off. No matter how carefully you drive, you are going to get dirt and debrie in there around the flywheel and then the clutches and RMS. An ounce of prevention....
Dude that under engine tray is a must. The defuser is a must. And the front trunk crack is also a must with the increase in ride height. The full service too.
Might try an adhesive dent puller on the fuel tank. Definitely cheap way to go, if it works and not so expensive if it doesn't. The crease might make it difficult to completely restore it to oe shape but it's working now, any improvement has to be better, right?
I’ve never seen Tyler so frugal with his money on repairs. Also, the Diablo might be aluminum intake pipes. I’ve noticed the same moan on turbo vehicles when using cheap pipes. Just a thought, I swapped the universal pipes for a high end unit and the sound went away.
Since I've done this on my car, I can tell you EXACTLY what that bolt/washer combo is that's holding on the rear diffuser. Home Depot sells washer kits for holding lawnmower blades on. The bolt is probably from elsewhere on the car, and the washer is from one of those kits.
Tyler! Your drone is actually a intake noise. Replace the accordion tube with solid silicone and it should help. Mind you, it’s never going away fully.
The roll cage in the group B mustang is designed for multiple roll overs. Barrel rolls if you will. It runs very close to your head and you shouldn't drive it without a helmet. Awesome race car and a competitive fun class. Cheers 🇨🇦
Can’t believe you’re not fixing like anything on this car. I completely understand not spending 13k on taking a dent out of a tank but this is a gorgeous car and you’re setting yourself up for future bills and way less money when you come to sell it by not spending anything now

the 458 next to the SLS. Love the Top Gear DVD where May and Clarkson spend a while debating which car is better. The 2 best cars of their era. (LFA too but much more expensive)
About the noise in lambo, l saw in some german tv show about fixing cars, there was a piece of air filter broke and got stuck in the end of intake manifold....
Over 80 thousand miles on a Ferrari is considered high mileage. I've seen old air cooled Porsches that have 300 thousand miles and running just fine. I'm not saying Porsche is superior and cheap to maintain but based on what I've seen about Ferraris, I wouldn't want a car that is a ticking time bomb.
Check the seals on the power steering pump, Honda had a similar issue with moaning when air was getting sucked into the pump from worn seals around the hard lines
in Australia you would suffer from what they call 'tall poppy syndrome" any Ferrari that wasnt hooned around, given the Ferris Bueller valet treatment, or had a timing belt with a mid engine are actually not stupid expensive to maintain compared to most cars that are not cheap brand new.
Ikr, this is probably the best car in his fleet (leaving the condition aside) imo. This car deserves to be brought back to its glory and not cheap out on !
You should include more shots of your commute to the wizards and other places so we can see the cars you’re regularly driving and revisit some that maybe aren’t seen often.
Hey dude i's only kiddin its a waay cool car.... my favorite thing is when you dont purchase something perfect (no fun in that) i like to see the process from "needs a ton of work" to "complete" ..... thats the best part of these type of automotive RUclips channels.
Could possibly do paint-less dent removal on the gas tank. Also tin foil might be used to block EMI, might have been causing issues with the sound system they put in, or other interference issues.
For the Diablo, I wonder if it's not the throwout bearing but a trans input shaft bearing. That bearing is rotating anytime the car is moving and in gear, and anytime the engine is running and the clutch is released. I have a honda beat that has a worn input shaft bearing and the noise can be similar. With the car actually driving, the only way to stop the noise even temporarily is to hold in the clutch while coasting in neutral
My dad had a black 458. He hit a dip on 285 and was completely airborne. Only ended up being a couple grand in repairs. Broken radiator, cracked frunk tray and that was about it
WRT to the Diablo, have you considered the PCV system for the groan? I've seen pressure going through seals, like the rear main, make weird noises like that.

Valet setting?
For your Lamborghini “drone” I had a brake booster that made that noise. Found it by applying vacuum to the system without the engine running. Good luck!🍀👍
He’s definitely trolling us, there’s no way he’s gonna “jiffy lube” this car
Absolutely
Don’t say that because if he sees this he will
Click bait would get a million hits
I am going to assume that the tin foil was because the previous owner was getting a "whine" in the aftermarket stereo components. Sometimes (most times not) this can help to insulate if you are having a ground loop issue.
Check your Air Oil Seperator / Crankcase ventilation system system on the Lambo... I've had a similar strange noise and turned out to be a bad oil separator causing the motor to pull a vacuum through the rear main seal, which creates a moaning/whistling sound~ Replaced the separator and put in a new rear main seal just to be sure and boom - noise was gone.
Good luck!
Annual service and rear tray should definitely be a must. Please take care of this 😭

Hmm...no.
Should get the trunk pan crack fixed, and the fin fixed. Not that much more to basically get it totally squared away.
Nice story.
The brake system is no longer stock.
@@CrashRacknShoot incorrect, the rotors, calipers and pads are no longer stock, all of the internal lines, valves and electronics are still there, and the issue lies with a Bosch electronic valve.
Do the rear tray ya doofus, I'd skip loads of it too but do that. It protects so much and ties in with the whole underside aero.

After dumping tens of thousands of dollars into beater cars I can't believe the decision's been made to cheap out on a 458. It deserves better. And it definitely needs a bellypan, annual maintenance, and fiberglass repair at the bare minimum. Disappointed.

I think that's why they were trying to shield the electronics with tinfoil. RF interference.
@@timdavis6088 wrong car
Drive it with the dipstick removed. I have experienced strange whining sounds under acceleration due to failures in a PCV system. The next thing would be to check the intake system for a poor sealing gasket or similar.
At this point, I have to assume that Hoovie keeps buying shit "sight unseen" with no inspection because he makes more money off getting screwed and complaining about it than by actually buying decent vehicles and flipping them when he's done with them.
Yes, that is the whole point of this channel. If he bought decent cars that needed moderate repairs then no one would watch.

I’m always curious on the history of a car like this. It’s not everyday people rice out a Ferrari with JC Whitney parts like a Honda Civic.
I’d guess one of those exotic rental places had it for a while before it went to someone else.
The car was from Vegas - they do all sorts of stupid stuff with vehicles out there
Well it's a salvaged car.

Would be cool if changing the cabin air filter would be an engine-out job 🙂

Since I've done this on my car, I can tell you EXACTLY what that bolt/washer combo is that's holding on the rear diffuser. Home Depot sells washer kits for holding lawnmower blades on. The bolt is probably from elsewhere on the car, and the washer is from one of those kits.
Tyler! Your drone is actually a intake noise. Replace the accordion tube with solid silicone and it should help. Mind you, it’s never going away fully.
