This arrangement is by Nicolas Economou (1953-1993). I think it should be mentioned in the title.
Absoulutely right!
Definitely
that turning sheet job is probably the best job on this planet ffs
+predvcecerom It would be so scary...what if you zone out and miss a page hahaha, or you lose your spot in trying to follow the music!
page turning for that length of time IS so hard! you have to stay fovuse and follow the music at the speed they are playing it- you can't afford to daydream!
If you know the music and sheet by heart, yes you sure can. Just gotta wait for the exact moment :p
I remember turning pages for a church organist at a local choral society concert. I accidentally turned 2 pages at once and he nearly had a coronary
Was thinking about the dangers of doing the same smith did... I would die if I ever did that
These 2 pianists are awesome. They are beautifully synchronized.
Tchaikovsky was genius. I think that every time I hear the Nutcracker, regardless of the form of performance (or tempo!).
They should've given flowers to both.
martha's the soloist. the 2nd pianist might have received flowers off stage but i believe it is tradition to hand flowers on stage to the soloist only
The speed they play some of this is almost unbelievable! What great artists both are!
I played the Ouverture Miniature with my friend before. This brings back so many memories.
A real joy! Doesn't it make it all the more remarkable, though, that Tchaikovsky's invention survives intact without the orchestral textures? A master of melody, harmony as well as setting perfect little miniatures to music. I've heard a lot of people say that Tchaikovsky uses orchestration to hide his (alleged) deficiencies in other areas. Not here!
Deficiencies like sacrificing musical form to emotion, melody or not to have the abilty of building complex, organic, intermingled symphonies like Beethoven? They are not deficiencies. It is his style. His style was making an highly emotional music just the way it is and not bothering with building mighty structures or developing it. He even said 'I hate musical ideas that needs development'. Even though he said that he has a couple of fugues which are great. For his orchestration, his orchestration was not colorful just to be colorful but his expression and intensity demanded it to be colorful. He best expressed his emotions using ingenious orchestral combinations, textures so on. If he used an oboe in some random swan lake piece he used it because only an oboe there would give the most emotional result.
+Gezgin Paksoy "He even said 'I hate musical ideas that needs development'. " --- Wow, did he say that? He was a different sort of genius from Beethoven for sure. I admire both. But, La valse des fleurs is overwhelmingly beautiful.
Melodies was what Tchaikovsky excelled at. What he usually struggled with was transitions. Nevertheless, his Nutcracker Ballet (and Suite) are amazing!
Спасибо за возможность насладиться гениальной музыкой П. И. Чайковского в исполнении талантливейших пианисток !!
What a fine duo those two ladies make! It is always such a joy to listen to them and watch them together.
un gran honor para mi escuchar una de las mas grandes pianistas del mundo actual como es m. argurich y su acompañante Zilberstein con ese muy buen arreglo para dos pianos del cascanueces de Tchakoski
My favourite part of song is after the dance of the sugar plum fairy...... I really love that!!!!....
Such masterfully playing and a wonderful transcription full of color. Thank you maestros for this beautiful performance!
Great play! To those complaining about recording quality etc.: sometimes it depends on your hardware. Try use good headphones - this MAY help.
One of my favorite selections to play and perform at the holidays. Martha and Lilya are absolutely superb . Favorite rendition. Bravissima Always so enjoyable to revisit this.
This is my favorite version of course!!!!! The beauty of the harmony between the two pianists is incredible!!!!
Perfeito... O arranjo ficou excelente, a execução extremamente harmoniosa. Ouvirei sempre, obrigada por postar esse vídeo.
Completely astounding!! Perfect, beautiful, divine... two piano goddesses!!
What an awesome feast of music. Two of the greatest women pianists in history, elevating the wellbeing of mankind in such a beautiful way. May God bless them both.
They both are wonderful and have so much fun while playing!
9:27 my favorite variation when I danced. Dark, moody, brooding. I love "Arabian" to this day.
Saw it danced at the Joffrey last year. VERY sensual.
Sublime!! Thank you so much for this wonderful performance!!
Nicholas Economu made this arrangement for Argerich's two young (then) girls (who must be very good pianists!). There is an excellent version of this arrangement played by Argerich and Economu.
Brava! I loved it, and really appreciate the post!
13:32 POOR GIRL oh goshhhh the page turner for Zilberstein got confused,id rather dieeeeeeee
She grabbed two pages at once, but realized and corrected it very quickly. Zilberstein was not thrilled!
Yess and the way Zilberstein looked at her at the end...... Ouch.....
Eh, it was a sympathetic look, like "We've all been there". I'm sure Zilberstein turned plenty of pages for people when she was younger.
Hermoso! Gracias por compartir este video .Que descortesía entregar un solo ramo de flores.
You can hear the orchestra playing... Amazing!
The arrangement is by Nicolas Economou, and is easily available from a number of sellers on the internet. What's not always so easy to find is a performance like this one. I don't know what these ladies were on. I doubt it was anything from Starbucks.
Absolutely stunning!
Two greats together - how wonderful
Beautiful!
me quede sin palabras...de verdad que es fascinante
大変貴重な動画をありがとうございます!!
アルゲリッチさん、いろんな方と共演を楽しんでいて素晴らしいです。好きですよ〜
Really enjoyed watching your performance of this wonderful piece!
I love the dance of the mirlitons so much!
That's always been my favorite :)
Beautiful 'Valse Des Fleurs'!!
יופי של עיבוד וביצוע
Virtuosas del piano...EXCELENTES
Thanks for uploading!
Whenever I watch too many mindless videos on RUclips, I can come here and watch the miraculous playing of Argerich /Zilberstien.
Une des plus sublime interprétation que j'ai pu voir !!!
O'zbekistondan ko'ryapman! Juda Go'zal! Salomat bo'ling!
Lovely music.
Entrambe eccezionali! Molto bella la trascrizione.
Excellent. BRAVO
They're a beast. Gee.
how refreshing and delightful
an antidote to the french sisters........
волшебно, про переворачивание страниц - супер
This is soooo impressive!!
Incredible!
That's a normal reaction when playing two pianos. It's called catch-up. They try to maintain strict time but that's hard to do so you have this back and forth speed up and slow down.
I thought this was my first viewing. 4 years ago seems like ages.
Superb music
As much as i prefer The Legendary Economou recording, (paired with "Cinderella"), this performance is a Stunner. Ms. Argerich works well with ANYONE, and this is why i Love watching Her perform 2 Piano Works, because, as usual, She is NOT Focussed on Argerich, or Zilberstein or Kissin or Lang-Lang, Her focus is The Composer. If you want to Hear The True Voice of ANY Composer, listen to Ms. Argerich playing it. Period. A wonderful Performance sadly marred badly by a terrible recording.
Argerich is a legend, but having heard her go through Schubert's D951 Rondo with Lang Lang, I must sadly disagree.
Bravo!!!
Mindblowing
Mystery solved. One has to enlarge the screen multi-fold. The tempo for the Trepak is marked "molto prestissimo con cocaine. Figures.
docc1 4
as long as it's ''ma non troppo'' of course
ambitious!
OMG! awesome :)
Wonderful , they choose the prettiest part in the nutcracker !!!
Wonderful
Magique .
No adds here thank you
BRAVEEEE, mi sono divertita molto mi ha ricordato la mia infanzia e il film Disney Fantasia
I like it fast, but the concert hall is too big, its almost an only blur, too much reverb.. dont know how to describe it in english..
Da-me arrepios nos tímpanos, de programa no canal (início da década de 60) show da Kibon, eu tinha 8 anos.
Nicolas economou's arrangements are very excellent!♡
I miss martha argerich and nicolas economou's performance..
It is available: Look here: ruclips.net/video/xA0ivU2we5M/видео.html
Feine Sound from A to Z.
always my favorite pieces of Tchaikovsky.
In fact, I love the piano arrangement more than the original orchestral ones.
8:37 incredible!!!!
I very like Marta
Professional beauty
Beautiful performance, but how odd that flowers were only presented at the end to Argerich, not to them both...I realize that Argerich is the bigger "star", but still...
I thought exactly the same.. it was such an uncomfortable scene to watch and they both played brilliantly
Agreed. Zilberstein should have got her due.
Nicolas Economou made this two piano arrangement of the whole Nutcracker Suite (which includes the Waltz of the Flowers) for Martha Argerich's two young (teenagers then) daughters.
一緒に合わせることが凄いです

Martha said somewhere that the transcription is by Nicolas Economou.
Love
I think they have too much hurry
MARTA ARGERICH GENIAL CONCERTISTA--
Pity the sound is a bit distant and echoey.
ye :c it's a great prestation tho .
Strabilianti!
the sheet turners didn't get a thank you :((
They get big paychecks.
Neither did the people who polished the floor...
exceptionaly well played technically correct 100%. But ladies, WHAT train are you catching...
+Tamaris Auster really? train? don't hear it.... sorry. just right tempi.
+Bulbophile if anything, that sugar plums twice as slow
Tamaris Auster I agree. The Overture was way too fast.
Who cares about tempo listening to such an inspiring interpretation!!
The beginning was too fast, but the rest was fine and it's still a beautiful interpretation.
The most beautiful waltz (is it a non-musical statement?) was composed by Tchaikovsky, and not by the Strausses...
+Luca Rizzardi, the most beautiful was composed by the Strausses, the blue danube.
+abbyshotwell i hate this
+abbyshotwell Hugo Wolf, Gustav Mahler, Tschaikowsky, Richard Strauss...All theese are better
i feel that the both have different time one is faster i think is argerich althought that the sound is beautiful and the arreangement is amazing
what's more wondrous than the nutracker-suite performed on a steinway concert grand? the same performed on two. thanks!
Always amazing even if is piano solo. I am 16 and I damn LOVE this.
I have a book (Schirmer I believe) with almost this exact set of pieces as solos. Not really difficult though of course not as ornate as this version!
Argerich and Zilberstein must be really great pianists -- their page turners are Asians!
no they are not they should know what they are playing without the need of sheet music paper and a page turner in the actual piano concert
lol, this made my day
@Carl Friedrich, Argerich is my favorite pianist and she is very talented! Don't be mean (>~
You always use your sheet music when you're playing chamber music! It's not a matter of memory! ...You must be able to follow your partner(s)' part. As simple as that.
Carl Friedrich Loooollll shut the fuck up please.
1. Ouverture miniature 0:41

Martha must be thinking, i gotta get outta here and check out that new diner in 42nd street!
This is really, really good ( as usual) Too bad about the bench and the flowers - just goes with the territory, I suppose!!
Wow this is beautiful! Does anybody know who wrote these arrangements?
Nicolas Economou
Exactly. Flowers to both or not at all
Un peu beaucoup d admiration pour ces dames
She does play very quickly, but she does in such an intensely emotional way, I think that makes it quite acceptable. Some pieces are just wonderful when they're raced through; have you listened to her playing Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto?
Fist full of mistakes
Wibster ????
Scenes from the nutcracker by peter tchaikovsky
I have the same question, is this version the usual one for two pianos??
Does anyone know where I can purchase this particular arrangement? Thanks in advance for your help?
