“function” is a strong word. as was said in the video, they’re very unbalanced. this essentially makes them either not worth using as they skew to a low number or a way to intentionally cheat because they tend to land on higher numbers.

If I remember correctly, they already announced that they are going to be working on a Mimic one that can close its mouth, basically making it a d20, a chest, and a Mimic.
I’m thinking maybe the weird weight distribution in the d20 form could be integrated in the core game by making them part of some special effect like a cursed blade that lets you use them instead of a normal dice in exchange of hp or something. Also nat20 wouldn’t count as critical rolls. Kinda like how in Mario party different characters have different chances on their dice

Continuing the comparison to Bakugan, they could do larger, more complex monsters like Tiamat using a combiner set the same way Bakugan does (or ... did - I haven't paid much attention to Bakugan since my nephews grew out of it and I stopped working at Toys R Us 13 years ago... I have no idea if that's still a thing) and considering they've already got two chromatically themed dragons with at least one more on the way, I don't see why they couldn't design a larger figure that incorporates the existing dragons into a Tiamat combiner. On a different note, if these Dicelings really take off, it would be fun to see the company do a limited run of Stranger Things themed Dicelings, specifically focusing on the Upside Down monsters. Given how integral D&D branding is to the show's characters and plot points, it would be a perfect cross promotion to hype up Season 5. Heck, considering the toys, they already have a perfect built-in tag line, "Stranger Things, Season 5, rolls out [insert date] on Netflix!"
Or maybe the Tiamat diceling could be a combiner set made up of an entire dice set D20 d12 d10 d8 d6 d4 The smaller die being the heads while the d20 is the main body perhaps

If you ever play D&D, you should play a Battle Smith Artificer and have your steel defender companion be a Bakugan that you can throw onto the battlefield to summon.
The beholder while simple i enjoy the most due to its simplicity, also something that could make some good customs from. This displacer looks good and a mimic while probaly having a complex transforma.... conversion to become a chest would be cool heck maybe ditch the chest and have a mimic be the dice itself. also also bakugan melee i might have away to have geogan fit. how they would work is each player has 1 geogan and to use it drop it on a card. if the geogan lands and opens acting as a obstacle and the atributte the geogan has lets say darkus the darkus number on the gate card would get the extra BP from the geogan so if its gate card of 100 darkus but a geogan of 300 BP the total bonus would be 400 for darkus only. once a battle is over the geogan win or lose goes is discarded. theres probably details that need to be worked out but i liked the idea of having away to put obstacles in the game to maybe encourage different roll styles

I feel like the best idea they missed out on was the idea of teasing a functional giant D20 that happened to be in this line on april 1st, and then the day after reveal that it's actually a mimic specifically shaped into a D20 rather than just a d20 that could be converted into the basic treasure chest mimic.
I got a Rakor diceling a few months ago. It was a bit confusing for me to fold it back up so I just keep it in the dice form to fidget with. May pick up that blue Beholder from wave 2 if I see it on store shelves.
Give me a bugbear, bugbears would look super goofy in this style. And a golem, like an iron golem! A perfect fit, you could even sorta use it as a miniature, have it be inactive and then whip out the transformed state when it starts to lay down the hurt.
These are pretty cool to see since I'm a huge transformers fan, and since both are made by Hasbro it's neat to see other series sort of kind of get the Transformers treatment
I have the orange beholder, and based on how the 20 has a raised bubble, it makes it almost impossible to roll a 1. The diceling just wont settle on that domed surface if it has anu kind of momentum. But it is still a great little fidger toy. Not to mention being a perfect melting pot of my love of tranafirmers, d&d, and my favourite colour (orange)

when i first saw these my head went into a campain where you can encounter these in a cave and if you wake them they try to kill you but i you wait for them to wake up you can make them your pets and use the dice form for not only defensive but also offensive menovers
Uh... So it turns out wave three of this line is gonna have three re-releases (completely clear-blue tentacle panther, green dragon, and brown owl bear) and... Well... And a Mimic that looks like it can completely shut its mouth... Dope
They should have mimic dicelings with a coupon sticker in it’s mouth for another free diceling packed inside a box for other creatures, so people expect to get a dragon and instead were the 1 out of 1000 to get a mimic but don’t feel bad about the unexpected different toy and get a free replacement
It'd be cool if they made a massive Terrasque diceling. I think intellect devourer, pit fiend, orc, minotaur, and kobold dicelings would also be cool. It'd also be nice if they made some metallic dragon dicelings.
It's probably a good idea that they didn't implement a self opening mechanic as that would make them wanted for in person games so much that they would be out of stock frequently
I think the target demographic for these toys is "Anyone who will buy them" Hasbro knows that *toys* are generally marketed to and sell best with children, at least traditionally, but now that generations of children who grew up with toys are becoming adults interested in collecting things for nostalgic reasons, that sort of shifts the "overton window" of target demographics for toys, especially when it's attached to a slightly-mature TTRPG franchise like Dungeons and Dragons.
Man, Hasbro really do be designing and painting these like it was the last thing they did, and on the other side my boy Beybalde Burst got those aberrations they called Quaddrive
These are closer to Transformers (a brand Hasbro _also_ owns) than to Bakugan. Speaking as someone who has loosely followed Bakugan since shortly after it started back in G1, pre-2010. These aren't spring-loaded, set off by magnets attaching to metal plates secreted away inside special playing cards. They have to be manually transformed by hand, and they have more articulation and poseablility than Bakugan ever did, or ever _will_ have.
G Amplay wise they just seem like be fun ti use as enemy minis have it in its dice form on the map in the boss room then reveal its true form when they finly attack it
Absolutely love these things! Have gone completionist on the two waves that have come out so far and have yet to be disappointed by them (though the Beholder isn't as fun as the others, in my opinion). Favorites so far are the dragons and the Displacer Beast, looking forward to the Mimic they're doing in Wave 3. 👀 Also, excited to see you branching out a bit and getting some sweet, sweet merch from ol' Hasbro.
Would the dicelings work well as miniatures in a D&D session? Personally, I see the dice aspect as a package to unwrap, similar to those sandstone blocks that have a little treasure chest or a fossil hidden inside. The main difference being that you can rewrap the toy again afterwards.
The only dnd creature I actually know about is the mimic m- so if they do that as a diceling I will be impressed that they somehow turned a dodecahedron into a rectangle Mimic mother mimic mother mimic mother mimic mother
They’re transformers that turn into dice. The only way to confuse them for Bakugan is to squint really hard while not having any information about them.

Beastbox is a pretty recent Chinese toy line that transforms into a cube, not much histroy but still interesting designs.

There is a third wave that includes a Brown Owlbear, Illusion Displacer Beast, Green Dragon, and a Mimic
