Ash and fire type pokemon = horrific back story
Cyndaquil, Torkoal, and Fletchling really didn't have bad back stories for Ash. Cyndaquil and Fletchling were caught as wild Pokemon and Torkoal was getting owned by Steel type Pokemon that he was strong against.

You kind of left out their reunion with Stoutland's ghost, but I suppose it wasn't the most important since all that really happened was Stouland showed Torracat how to use fire blast.

Thank you for posting this memories came back i had seen these seasons 4 times but still enjoyed it. Thank to you i can still see ash even after they removed him from the anime. Pokemon isnt the same without ash and pikachu and his new tricks and Pokemons

Pokémon Moon was my first Pokémon game when I was little and my starter was Litten. To this day Incineroar is my number one favorite Pokémon

If Litten actually joined Team Rocket that would've been mad interesting, handing a starter, usually a primary pokemon to prepare for trouble would've been a very interesting dynamic.

Ah yes, they kept to the typical ash behavior of whenever he gains a fire type Pokémon with a tragic backstory. We just never really see it again, or never see it do anything again. Or he just lets it free more or less, erasing all the time spent with them throughout that time as we never see them ever again.
