XY and XYZ were the last generations geared even a little towards the original players. TPC had to reboot the franchise for the next generation of players. Early Pokémon wasn't particularly complex or deep, we just remember it that way because we were all young.

I get some people that say Alain is just built different, I know him and Charizard as simply stronger than Ash and Greninja, but come on. XYZ was so peak, maybe with other peoples opinion they could say the previous regions were also peak but XYZ was a good type of peak to finish it off, the story was great, the design was really nice, everything was so on point. But they really just couldn't give Ash the plot armor that he needed. I don't know what y'all think but personally I prefer Ash became champion during XYZ instead of Sun and Moon.
They did a good job with Greninja's history in the anime. Only have a little bit of pain and regret for what happened to Ash and Greninja near the end. Having Ash and Greninja, losing to a trainer who had no business being there in the first place. And dooming a forest due to evil roots because they can never go away.

I agree, especially the part about graphics vs gameplay, I'd choose gameplay over graphics too. And i buy games based how much value i can squeeze out of it, like if I can play it for longer until I feel like I got the value for the price I paid.. so yeah. Graphics is cool and all no doubt about it, but games are so expensive that you get the feeling that you need to make the most out of it
