@GRAITOM same here. Just did it this morning and it was so easy because of the easy step by step video. I'm glad Intel thinks we're all familiar how to do this..
First time noob here, a word of advice - pay attention to MSI description post - bios update. It says change default boot setting, I thought that was a repair as part of the update. Nope! After getting BSOD, I had to disable secure boot, now PC operates properly. Hope this saves someone time and the hassle of trying to re-image their machine!
back in the day we didn't have images. we would boot from floppys-which would give us a command prompt and HOPEFULLY had the proper cd-rom driver. if it did, we'd be able to run the windows setup from here. this is how you clean install. these days its easier. can boot from USB flash drives and it just goes directly to a GUI installer. anyway: Windows media creation tool. or rufus if you want to make your own-use only trusted isos
just to note, updating your bios may enable secure boot, so if you're having problems booting up or think you are stuck in a no signal loop, first try ctrl+alt+del and enter bios to disable it
Good tip, got stuck on that myself. For anyone else, make sure that you have a USB drive of max size 32gb and then format it to FAT32 (not exFAT) otherwise it will not show up in M-flash.
Thanks so much for this easy-to-follow tutorial. My PC had been restarting unexpectedly for a while now and I couldn't figure out why. After some monitoring I realized it usually did so after watching RUclips for extended periods of time. I dug further and learned an outdated BIOS might be the issue so I downloaded the latest update and followed your video. So far no more issues. Thanks.

My computer was freezing periodically while playing games. After trying different things to no avail I decided to try updating my BIOS. I followed this tutorial carefully and updated my BIOS successfully. It fixed my freezing issue. Thanks
@@janoliver7436 My computer was doing the same thing, but I found that it was the RAM that was the issue. The xmp profile was essentially overclocking my ram over the potential it was rated for, which was causing stability issues. I upgraded to DDR5 6000MHz ram and configured it myself and it stopped the freezing.
I just saw that my MSI B350M Mortar Arctic (from 2017) got a BIOS update for the latest CPUs from 2022! Thank you MSI for still delivering updates. Now i can go form my first generation Ryzen _AMD R5 1600_ to the _AMD R7 5800X3D, R7 5700G, R9 5900X_ or even _R9 5950X!_ Imaging buying an _Intel i7 7600K_ in 2017 instead of a Ryzen. @@Yusta19 The first generation Ryzen CPU's were way more power hungry, which led to high temperatures (The OS's also didn't had good drivers for the then new Ryzen CPU's). The current ones, even the Ryzen 9 models are way better in this subject. With a low & steady airflow in the tower you won't see any throttle with top end CPU's. The early "reviews" in 2017 (especially by some RUclips Overclockers), where garbage.
Loved the fact that M-FLASH on my Z690 allowed me to find the update file in the computer folder of my main drive where I downloaded it rather than having to use a flash drive
@@katakuri8258 yes it is safe as long you don't have power issues during the BIOS flashing (like an outage), no, you don't need to download everything again, it does not affect your system and storages drives
For my MSI X570 Creation, 2 things of note; 1st: I had to see the M-Flash screen only through an HDMI output. Wouldn't let me see it ever on Displayport. 2nd: contrary to manufacturer instructions of having my USB formatted to Fat32/ exFat, I could only read the file through NTFS. Just updated my B550 tomahawk from version 7C91vA5 to 7C91vAF(latest), because I'm planning to upgrade to 5800x3d soon. The update went fine, but I couldn't boot to windows after, even after disabling secure boot and TPM. Luckily, everything was backed up, so I reinstalled windows. Update your bios only if you encounter issues or for a specific reason and don't forget to do a full backup of your files!
1. Unzip the downloaded bios file 2. Open the folder from the unzipped file 3. Copy the file with a .A10 extension onto a FAT32 flash drive. 4. Reboot while holding Del key to enter BIOS 5. Select M-Flash 6. Select that .A10 file from before. Why can't this be in text on your website? I get that some people need a video guide. But it would take so little work to have a text version for people who know how to move a file.
If you are having the problem whereby M-Flash is not detecting your USB then make sure your USB is in fat32 format and not Xfat or anything else. You might need a third party programme to do this. It fixed the issue for me
@@yeastydynasty you need the specific USB 2.o Version, you can check your usb version by checking the plastic pin inside, blue means 3.0, black means 2.0

Literally best video for updating msi mobo's. No need to go anywhere else. Note that after the bios update go back into your bios and reconfigure setting e.g. your ram will go back to default settings, so you need to change that
@Tom Smith so what happened when you removed the battery and put it back in? Did it fix it? Takes 10 seconds to do. And i bit hard to blame msi in general as bios updates come with a risk that they will break software. The warning are everywhere and in most videos about it.
Yes, It's very important what you say. Check the booting sequence after bios upgrade. I sucked 2 hours when figured out, cause I was thinking on: wrong BIOS, Wrong BIOS Update, and I kill my motherboard, what mistake did I, need to reinstal windows etc...
Once you flashed the bios if you have 'no signal' loop What fixed it for me was tapping on my keyboard multiple times such as cntrl + alt + delete. 'delete' button, numpad, multiple times, you'll go into bios then boot from UEFI to CSM that worked for me. Edit: Worst case scenario you fried your Mobo, and have to replace it. However there is more than one way to fix the no signal issue. Although this solution was my last desperate attempt and it worked.
that helped me a little bit, but it still didnt help me to update my bios. I managed to get into the part, where i have to select the bios, but the bios file wont show up. Instead, there are just 3 dots (" ... ") and not the bios file. When i click on that, it goes back one step (another infinity loop). HELP
Make sure you have exact motherboard selected on the website before download. I spent hours trying to run bios for the Z-790 Pro, when in fact I needed the Pro Z-790-P.

It's the first time ever I had to update BIOS as I've never done it before and these steps really helped me, was indeed easy to follow and I was able to download and update my PRO Z790-P WIFI to the latest version using these steps even though they are for different MB, but the steps were identical. Side note for someone doing it. Make sure to check the back of your desktop or the front to see if you have a special BIOS Flash USP port. In my case my MSI Aegis RS 13NUF-439US / Intel Core i7 13th Gen 13700KF PC had a special USB Port called BIOS Flash, it also had a BIOS Flash button, but I did not use it, I followed this video guide and used a USB Flash, formatted it, make sure to format it in case you had anything on it before, just plug it in into you usual non BIOS usb ports, once it loads, mouse right click on the drive and click Format, this will proactively wipe out thievery you had on it, so make sure if you had some files stored on there you wanted to keep to transfer them elsewhere. Once formatted just follow this guide, copy your downloaded BIOS file over onto it like shows in the video, then mouse right click and Eject it as shows in video, take it out of regular USB port and like it was in my case I plugged my USB Flash into the BIOS Flash USB port in the back of my desktop tower and then the rest was exactly as shown on the video, access BIOS, select the folder/file and proceed with the update. Thanks.
"then mouse right click and Eject it as shows in video, take it out of regular USB port and like it was in my case I plugged my USB Flash into the BIOS Flash USB port in the back of my desktop tower and then the rest was exactly as shown on the video" This part is nowhere in the video. All it says/shows is to hit "eject" from taskbar, and then "restart" computer. Maybe one of the worst tutorials for any task in any industry I've ever seen XD
Bio usb port? If you have a red port on the back of your Mobo it just means it's 3.2 or newer lol I just used the standard USB port right on the front of my PC.
Thanks for this. Question - in the past it was good practice after a BIOS update to select 'Load Optimised Defaults and Reboot', then configure the BIOS to your requirements. A bit of a pain in the ass if you had a bit of tweaking to do. Do we not need to do this now?
IF YOU ARE GETTING A SOLID RED LIGHT. Make sure you have the correct bios for your mobo. I have the DDR4 version of a an MSI mobo, and I had to SPECIFICALLY search for it. Worked first time!
Solid red light on what - DRAM? Cuz that's what I am getting. I flashed Bios to the newest update... Same shit.. Solid Red light and no Signal on Display.. I have a B550 and Ryzen 7 5800x3D... Flashed it with CPU and GPU installed... same thing. Removed the CPU and GPU, flashed it. Same thing. Put the GPU, CPU on and Flashed it with the specific 5800x3D update.. Same thing, red DRAM on, no signal on display.. Removed GPU/CPU, flashed it... same thing... I dont know what to do at this point.
About to upgrade from a tomahawk b450 with amd ryzen 3 3200G to a B550 G plus with Ryzen 5 5600 and it showed on pc part picker flashing is needed before running the cpu. glad to see it’s an easy straightforward peaceful process, never flashed a desktop motherboard before 😅
For 2 years I was wondering why my Ryzen 7 5800X3D never boosted past 3.4ghz... turns out my drivers were a year older than the ones supporting my CPU. I didn't really notice the performance hit because I also have an RTX 4090, so for gaming I was still fine... but damn did updating my BIOS make a difference for other stuff. That extra 1GHz on my 5800X3D really made my whole system more snappy, and gained me like 10-20 FPS in Cyberpunk! :D
Its all well and done ...but how can I do it without physically installing the new CPU first? OR can I do it after I put the not-supported CPU on the motherboard in order to support it after BIOS update ???
Tried finding my earlier reply. Wasn't able to. So, an update. The reason the driver wasn't turning up on my usb drive was because it was the wrong BIOS for this motherboard. It turns out that m-flash has a built in identifier to differentiate between what is the appropriate driver for the motherboard and what is not. I found the correct driver (through fumbling around on msi website) and it works just fine. Everything updated and now running latest BIOS for my motherboard (z490 Plus, not "Z490 Gaming Plus").
There are a lot of comments here saying you need to use NTFS. This is not always true - It may be related to your motherboard. I have the B450m mortar titanium and it worked perfectly on FAT32 with a 4GB USB
in the same boat but I have the meg x570 ace had a 4gig usb fat32 worked like a charm the first time around no issue, I had also read the comments and started with ntfs and that does not work at all so I guess they need to streamline a bit going forward or perhaps people are lieng who knows.

As others have said before me, the bios resets to factory settings after an update. So if your system doesn't boot, check the following: Secure boot ON/OFF, Boot mode CSM/UEFI. (In my case I had to turn off secure boot and change the mode to csm) Also enable XMP and set the correct speed for your ram.
If your USB flash drive doesn’t show the BIOS file when you go to update, read this, because I found this online and it was the solution for me: “This suggests that your BIOS is a custom one. They do this sometimes when it's used in a complete PC, they put a special BIOS version on there, and then you can't update with the official BIOS that MSI offer for the mainboard. You have to look for specific BIOS updates for your complete PC. You can confirm this by entering the BIOS and looking carefully at the BIOS version name before the dot. Instead of "E7B61IMS" of the official BIOS for this board, you then might have a different number there, or the last letters will be different like ...IMT. You then have two options: Try to find the correct BIOS for your board. Often times, the custom BIOS will have less updates, or it's difficult to get a BIOS update. Renaming the BIOS update file is not enough, M-FLASH will still decline the update if it doesn't match your board's model”
@Tom Smith well that’s good you did it right. I just have seen other people who used MSI center to update bios and then it ruined their motherboard. I actually couldn’t even update my BIOS on my MSI because after their support sent me the wrong BIOS 2 times, they then said my PC is a custom “Canadian version” and therefore the BIOS from 2020 doesn’t have any updates. Needless to say I am not happy with MSI either.
Hi Mine doesn't show up but when I look into the Mobo info it says MSI But it also says American something with an I for the bios version I have a B450m bazooka So what do u mean by complete pc? Also I'm updating bios because idk if it's the reason my pc randomly restarts whenever I game recently

There is a big flaw in this video if it supposed to be a guide for every user! It says that after downloading the BIOS file, extracting it and putting on a flash drive, that then one should "eject the USB flash drive and restart the system". Then next comes rebooting, pressing DEL to go into the BIOS, enter M-Flash mode and restart again after which one is to select the BIOS file on the USB flash drive - which must then require some sort of magic since following the instructions the drive is not connected. I am sorry, but if the video is supposed to help people it needs to be accurate and not skip things. PS. While we are at it, the written instructions on the MSI webpage is flawed as well. In step 1 it says to check the current BIOS version, then in step 2 it says to "Download the new BIOS version that matches the current BIOS version number." which seems to suggest one should flash the current BIOS with a file of the identical version - only how is the supposed to be a upgrade??!!!!
I havent looked at the written instructions, but the video at least isn't misleading anyone. It says eject the drive, not to remove the drive from your USB port. very different things.
@@xTRTSCx Supposedly the video is meant for people that do not know how to go about the process, for it to be the most helpful it should not leave out things - even things that the use will also see on his screen while performing the steps involved. That people can get the full picture by combining the video and the pdf is a let down, they should both describe the whole process. If needed the PDF and the video could also come in "quick guide" versions, then both the experienced and the novice users would get great service.

Neither the manual nor this video state in which filesystem state the USB stick has to be. I suppose FAT32? Is NTFS also possible since they don't mention that it is not possible?
Clicking M-Flash just gives me a black screen and doesn’t reboot to anything. Hitting the reset button does seem to restart something based on the fan sounds stopping for a bit and the screen changing to gray, but the empty screen still continues. I have to literally unplug my computer then turn it on to get past this. I tried it twice, same shit. What do I do?
Instructions unclear- It appears this BIOS update takes place after the pc is set up and running, but I saw something online about flashing the BIOS before installing the CPU. Do I need to update the BIOS on the B650-P before the build or after?

This worked for me, eventually... formatted my USB to FAT32, extracted the file (not the downloaded folder, just the file in my case E7A33AMS.5L4) to the root of the USB. Followed the provided instructions in the video. However on reboot I was prompted with an MBR Error 1 - Press any key to boot from floppy... Message. Basically the boot sequence was incorrect. Even myself being a new beginner at the PC stuff, Can follow this video like as easy as watching and copying, The amazing thing about PC's is after watching someone put a PC together, I don't really like the phrase build, Coz to me it is just putting electronic parts on certain parts of the putting a PC together, lol, I always said since I started to learn the PC stuff if I was a company selling pre builds, I would sell a project PC that a Father or Son, Or Mother and Daughter, Project PC build, All the parts are sold as a bundle, Then use You Tube with the step by step instructional video on putting the PC together, More revenue, lol, See PC's will always be the future so knowing how to put a PC together is also learning how a PC works, And if you put it together yourself, You can fix it yourself, I have seen a few vids now where a pre build PC do not look like it is really honest, I mean it is honest, But when I am seeing review channels doing vids on 5 grand PC, That could get the same performance a lot cheaper, Another reason I love PC stuff so much, Is the sheer amount of Motherboard CPU and GPU's that can be put together, When I was looking for a Motherboard and before I decided to get the MSI Z690 Unify DDR5, The amount of different motherboards is crazy, lol, The MSI Z690 Unify is a huge upgrade for me, I had a Gigabyte H610i before I got the MSI Z690, Just for the extra M.2 slots the Z690 is a huge bonus, Even if I have not filled them up yet, No doubt I will, Someday, And I am hoping I will not have to upgrade the Motherboard for a while, I might get 13th gen, I am using an i5 12600k at the moment, I read the Z690 can do 13th gen, And even 14th gen, Is that true?? Also can anyone help me with an XMP issue, I did get 4x8gb sticks thinking filling up four dimms would make a platform more stable, Turns out you cannot run XMP using a four stick configuration, XMP is a two stick thing, Is that also true,?, lol, Either way I got 2x16gb sticks for a two stick config, Yes XMP works, But it keeps crashing, Even give me a blue screen the other week, Thankfully after a few restarts with the power button it come back, Windows, But I cannot run XMP without the PC crashing, Thankfully I got CL36 ram for the 2x16gb, The last 4x8gb sticks is CL40, But the CL36 have give me 4800MHz, The CL40 is 4000MHz, Can I mix the CL36 with the CL40 to make 48gb of ram, Would it create the 4000MHz though instead of 4800MHz, For sim racing I does the ram matters a lot see, But yeah the MSI Z690 is a fantastic Motherboard coming from a 610i, lol, Amazon sells MSI Motherboards cheaper than anywhere else by the way, For most things MSI, Amazon does prices I don't see anywhere else in the UK....

thank you for helping me with my first ever bios update. now i have rebar
If your USB flash drive doesn’t show the BIOS file when you go to update, read this, because I found this online and it was the solution for me:
“This suggests that your BIOS is a custom one.
@Tom Smith well did you install it while the OS was running or with mflash?
@Tom Smith yes they do allow it if you use MSI center
@Tom Smith well that’s good you did it right. I just have seen other people who used MSI center to update bios and then it ruined their motherboard. I actually couldn’t even update my BIOS on my MSI because after their support sent me the wrong BIOS 2 times, they then said my PC is a custom “Canadian version” and therefore the BIOS from 2020 doesn’t have any updates.
It says eject the drive, not to remove the drive from your USB port. very different things.
in the pdf file there's a screenshot showing you what numbers you're meant to look for, I don't consider this that big of a mistake

I have a PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 and i need to update for a i7 13700, i dont have a 12XXX. How can i update my board without the cpu?
I want to reiterate the previous posts for the people watching this video. USB drive must be NTFS ! Hope you see this before spending as much time troubleshooting as the rest of us.
Only for certain newer motherboard models from MSI. Still always refrain to the manual of your motherboard, where it will tell you if it requires FAT 32, NTFS or if either is fine.
OMG THANK YOU! Literally 2 hours trying to get my new 7800x3d to boot with the new bios. Looking back I should have updated bios prior to cpu swap. Thank you again!
"Send to USB Drive" is kinda scary back in the day. :D
Didn't work. The Bios didn't recognize the ejected usb. Had it in the Bios flash usb port. Using PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4.
Apparently you can't use the one that says 'BIOS' for a freaking bios update. Go figure. The standard ones worked.
@@sirjared21 have you figured this out?
@@joe-ox5rc plug usb dongle into standard usb port and it will work.

At what point do you put the flash drive back in usb port?
Thought the same Thing, very very amature video.
@@MetalMathiasTP you put it in before reboot
@@MetalMathiasTP true , i dont understand why they want to make the video as short as possible ..they are pretty much leaving some important step that make someone clueless
How to brick your z490!
Thank you msi! Why do you let the files to upload firmware ?
If your system is protected by TPM and Bitlocker, make sure to backup your recovery key also or you'll be unable to boot into Windows.
That's one big IF!
What does that mean I updated bios and it wouldn’t let me install windows so I downloaded it to my ssd on my old pc but when I put it in my new one it blank screens I have a msi mag b550 tomahawk max and a ryzen 9 5900x
Is it recommended to just use the latest bios available or to update it in steps using several bios updates?
Never mind I found another comment that answered this question.
The answer is just use the latest bio available. Thanks
Thanks
@@codym5551 a little late but how much newer was the new bios? I am 5 updates behind on my bios, I am afraid of bricking my pc if I suddenly jump to the newest stable one
NOTE: BIOS WILL RESET SO YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CONFIGURE BOOT ORDER AGAIN. My pc looked completely different and had no idea why at first
LOAD optimized defaults
Amazing, now how do I do it when its a new build and I can't get a screen to boot??
my usb flash memory not detected in m flash mod !!
what the solve for this problem ?
I am having this problem too, its not seeing the flash file. Have you fixed this problem?
I Ran into a boot loop/windows repair issue doing this.
I just ordered the 5600x to upgrade from my current R5 2600.
Flashing the Bios went fine.
But as soon as it was completed I couldn't get into windows and recover, resetting and also restoring didn't work.
I then found a way past this issue so I'm sharing here to help others.
You need to select, chose different operating system, (for me the default was Windows 10, but the second option was Windows 10 Home).
After switching to Windows 10 Home, it boots in fine! But you must select that as the defualt to avoid the same windows repair each time you boot the system!
Hope it helps someone
me too , I did flashback bios
same
Thank you so much. I had never updated BIOS before this and was so scared when I saw this error lol
Thanks for the guide just updated bios. Will there be a quad ddr5 xmp compatibility bios update?
This is desperately needed. The quad DDR5 issues are infuriating.
Then don’t use 4 sticks it’s not that much better
If I update should I download the newest file on the msi website?
Hello, when i goto flash settings in bios, it doesnt see the file i downloaded from the msi website. Can someone fix?

Should i download all the updates and apply all of em one by one or the latest bios update would be enough?
Im only getting the original folder with nothing in it to show up even though i copy pasted the file within it onto my flashdrive..i dont know if im doing something wrong or if i need something else
If your USB flash drive doesn’t show the BIOS file when you go to update, read this, because I found this online and it was the solution for me:
“This suggests that your BIOS is a custom one.
Thnx for help! Nice desktop how use this theme ?
Great Video, simple and easy!!!
When I rebooted nothing showed up on my display :(
is it supposes to do that?
My PC (after entering Flash mode) doesnt do anything anymore (my Monitor has no Signal) What do i do now?
It works until 1:08 after that, it just says "No Signal" and doesnt do anything else, even after 10 min
I have a b360m Bazooka
I ended up having the same problem about a year ago. I watched another video from a different content creator that explained how to use the bios flash button on the back of some motherboards. Here is a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/cU7ZMmSmu20/видео.html

Another comment on this video from user *Rivia Wolf Edits:*
"Once you flashed the bios if you have 'no signal' loop
What fixed it for me was tapping on my keyboard multiple times such as cntrl + alt + delete. 'delete' button, numpad, multiple times, you'll go into bios then boot from UEFI to CSM that worked for me."
Interesting. Nevermind all that. How would you make a fruit cake?
@@ehpansei Ask Google, Or put in You Tube and then you can learn, A bit like I would, lol....
Didn't you ever get taught that it is good to learn anyways....
