Thank you so much for this one. Updating the bios is one of the things I don't feel very confident on doing, no matter how simple it may be for most people and i have already built a couple of PC's successfully. You have made this a lot easier for me, Mike. 😊
Funnily enough, I updated the bios on my old MSI X570 Tomahawk the other day. Flashed it straight from my ssd game drive no problem. Having to set the fan curves up once again was the only nuisance. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Mike and Lady Kath. That bios screen looks a lot like my current B75 motherboard from 2013. That's how I normally flashed my bios. Or I'd do it through Windows. Thanks for the how-to. Take care as always. Cheers
Great explanatory video Mike.l have never attempted a bios update, simply because l’m wary of botching it up.For what l do on my pcs,-video editing,l’ve had no problems so far.Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us Mike and Kath 👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for the video. Very well explained and detailed. Only thing, my windows didn't ask me to reset my password after flashing the BIOS. I have the MSI B650 Gaming plus wifi motherboard. Many thanks again.
Thanks Mike, I have this board on one of my systems and highly recommend it for value and connectivity and its looks awesome when gaming with ARGB.. Although I would says the 7E10v16 bios should be avoided as latest bios 7E10v171(Beta version) is far better and fixes many issues for stability and for XMP and EXPO. The other issue I faced on AM5 is Windows 11 can not keep up with a fast system and uses efficiency mode to deliberately slow down loading of windows explorer and the task manager processes, even google chrome and that is extremely annoying , especially when you need to do many things in a hurry. I guess the green eco friendly efficiency and energy save is probably one if the causes which is fine for low tdp and laptops but creators and gamers should adjust power options via control panel Windows 11 has many development issues and poor testing prior to release, lets hope Windows 12 can deliver a better platform for the end user.
This is July 2024 and yes you should upgrade your MSI B650 Tomahawk BIOS. I used the M-Flash software in the BIOS but it's 99% the same as this video. If you use the M-Flash then you can use any USB port. Otherwise you must use the dedicated USB port in the back with the hardware button. In any case it was quick and easy. My AMD 7800X3D was running hot right out of the box, around 62c at idle. After the BIOS update it is now around 45c at idle which is what I expected. I run dual monitors off the CPU Radeon graphics that the board supports. I assigned 4GB of my 32GB DDR5 system memory to each video output (total 8 GB), up from the default 512 MB. Running in this configuration with mostly RUclips videos and 4 tabs open the power usage is right at 20 wpc, just what I wanted. As I write this I am at 47c and 15 watts.
I have a b650 tomahawk and 7800x3d, even on latest beta bios it sets vsoc to 1.3v when expo 1 is enabled. I'll wait for new amd bios next month I don't feel comfortable manually messing with settings. The 1.3v seems to be common for msi boards with expo enabled, it's still safe but a little too high for my liking

insert the USB with the BIOS on it first, then turn on PC and keep tapping the delete key to enter the BIOS then the mflash section. the pc should reboot after and then you are given the option to re do all the BIOS settings on the first boot. The USB drive can be removed after this

Starting having trouble then turning pc on would boot sometimes then other times just cpu debug light on. Then not booting at all red debug light on all fans and rgb working but no display. Changed cmos battery and reset cmos with jumpers. Litterly tried everything changed to diffrent ram. Changed gpu reseated cpu. Still same. Woke up this morning had another go on it thought I would try with 1 stick ram and it seems to be working sweet with 1 in slot 4. Soon as I put stick in slot 2 or try slot 2 on its own won't boot🙃
I need to upgrade my cpu but flashing the bios scares me because of power interruption in my country. If i lose power mid flashing will it really damage my motherboard?
I went to do a bios update on my msi mpg b650 edge wifi out of the box with a usb and bios flashback. When I held the button it started to flash but then stayed flashing for an hour.
