HI Mike. Just a bit of an update on my experience with the B550 GP and the Bios Update I did , 7C56v16. As I discussed previously I changed from the X570 GP with the 7/3700X and installed the B550 GP with a new 5/5600X (hence doing the Bios Update). Anyway, all went well until it came to Booting Up - it posted fine, but that is all it would do, stumblingly only go into the Bios Settings with the "BOOT" Light remaining lit on the Board. Not seeing The Windows Boot. It saw the SSD ok but not Windows on it. I thought that maybe along the way the SSD had done a funny so swapped it out for another one I have with Windows on that I know is working from the HAFX 5/3600. Still nothing - Strange...????? Me and my S-in-L eventually sussed it. With the latest Bios Update it had made "csm/uefi" available now and enabled it by default! Not too sure what that does but turning it "OFF" within the Bios Settings made it all better! Booted straight away! Thank Goodness!!! Anyway, I just wanted to give this "Heads-Up" in case others have the same issue...... Ciao.
Thx, bro! You're the best! Im buying this mobo and other expensive scrap for my pc (as the old one died yesterday:/) I will surely use the discount code for win10 thanks again, you have a new fan in Poland ;)
Thanks mike for informative and confidence boosting video. Yes you answered my question about what you should have connected to motherboard lol stay safe 👍
I have the same exact motherboard and flashed it(most recent non-beta bios xxx.16)and it did everything your motherboard did. I inserted my r5 5600x cpu and rx 6800xt gpu. I plugged up everything and I am getting no visual on monitor. The motherboard shows the CPU light debug on. I cleared cmos and even exchanged cpu, nothing still. I installed a different bios version that the website said to use for this processor(xxx.10) and it did the flashing for 5 minutes and tried again. No visual still. LED for cpu on debugg still on. I have no idea what is the problem.

I'm further than I was at the start of the video. Thanks! I renamed the file and unplugged the ram and GPU but left mt CPU in. I finally got the flashing though! I had done a flash on another mobo, but I was able to use my ryzen 9 3900x to flash it, so all was well with the MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI, but the MPG B550 Gaming Plus was a no go, so you saved me here. Mine just rebooted, so no red light. I'm gonna plug it all back in and see if it finally posts. If so, you're a life saver.
@@mikesunboxing le sigh, I don't have keyboards lighting up. Fans light up and spin. I tried putting in the ryzen 5 5600x despite not even getting it to post on the ryzen 9 5900x, but still no post, still no keyboard lights. Idk with this one. I feel like this was a dud...
@@mikesunboxing my nephew had put the ram in backwards, so it may have been broken when that happened. I had put it back the right way, but I had a feeling it may have been damaged. I swapped the ram out for a different set and it booted just now and I'm installing windows. After this, I'll check if both or 1 doesn't work. Hopefully at least 1 is salvageable. But still, he did a really good job putting it together. I'm not even gonna knock him for doing that one part wrong so he doesn't get discouraged. Ram can be replaced and I'm really happy it's not the CPU or Mobo not working because I am tired of going to best buy because today was my first day having to flash a bios and they have really slim pickings when it comes to parts, Haha. I may take 1 RAM out of his that I built and put it in this one that he built. I feel like with this ram I'm working with now, a different PC had randomly restarted while playing games before, so I don't want that to be an issue with this one. I'm super happy I found this video to flash the bios. It worked out for me. I'm installing windows right now, so I'm happy it's finally working. You rock!
''Make sure that you don't have power on before attempting to flash install" That is vital on MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk Wi-Fi START THE BIOS UPDATE BY PRESSING THE FLASH BUTTON, THE BOARD WILL THEN ACTIVATE THE BIOS UPDATE. I spent over 4 hours with many usb pen drives with the power applied and failing every time!
So is THIS how you recommend STARTING with this (or any MB) before attaching or doing anything else? Also do you install the BETA or non-BETA BIOS? The MSI guide videos and instructions don't show you to install things like this, which for a novice builder is VERY confusing. They make out as if you should attach everything THEN do the BIOS and all drivers.
Cheers Mike. You are a legend ! You helped me with fan speed control too. Just one question, for a new B550 Gaming Plus, with a Ryzen 7 5700X, should I always flash with the latest Bios version, or an earlier version?
@@mgloc1 put in the usb stick on the designated spot and pressed flash bios, when ez debug light turned off i took out the stick and turned off the system, although it seems my motherboard is broken since it doesnt register my gpu, even the fans aren't spinning when i turn it on, and ez debug led shows no gpu
Hi Mike, how are you? I'm building a computer with a Ryzen 5600G, I'm going to use only the processor's integrated video. I have a question about which motherboard to pick, the one in the video or a B550 Aorus Elite. What's your opinion?
I've just built my PC over the past two days and before I started it I did the bios flashback on my MSI b550 gaming edge wifi but I forgot to plug in the cpu connector when doing so and only plugged in the 24 pin. After it was finished everything lights up and fans and gpu spin but no signal to monitor, is the issue a failed bios update? (Was for ryzen 7 5800x) And if so can I bios flashback with my PC components installed? Or do I have to remove everything completely? If you could help that would be greatly appreciated and would save me more time and frustration, cheers.
i am pretty sure you can do it without the extra CPU connection attached for flashing but you will need to attach it for using the system normally afterwards. Join the discord chat if you want to go through the steps and possible recovery in more detail
Mike, thank you for this guide, saved my bacon. Product reviews were saying their hardware was supported right out of the box, but certainly not mine. Saved me a ton of heartache.
I know you said 8gb preferred but I have a spare 2gb 2.0 one. Will that be sufficient? If not I don’t mind going and getting an 8gb but just thought to ask. Edit: I ended up just buying a 16GB sandisk 2.0 for $5 from my local Walmart. Also I couldn’t find a clear answer when I searched but it does indeed work on MacBooks. First attempt doing the bios update via Mac PC and was successful. Ended up getting the same results as you with the red lights flashing while board was lit up and then after about 5 min powered off, came back on and red light was no longer flashing. FYI this was on a B550 gaming carbon wifi and it’s the same process.
check for the ryzen 5000 ready sticker on the box, if it has it then you don't need a flash, if it says 3000 series ready then you will need to flash the bios
Thank you for your help. In my case, My pc is already built and the cpu is already in there with my aio cooling. Is it still okay to do the same process? My mobo is z490 with lga 1200 socket originally for 10th gen intel. But i bought an 11th gen cpu so I have to do this in order to completely boot my pc up onto a monitor
Definitely had to dig up my smallest oldest thumb drive for the board to read it. Every other time it either flashed slow and didn’t light up the board, or it’d flash for a second and then go solid.
@@mikesunboxing YES! I can’t thank you enough for demonstrating how long it takes, btw. Most people would just skip it to make the video more “engaging” lol
Hey great video. But was wondering if it is possible to boot to bios to check what version is installed without a cpu in? The build I'm making needs newer than x version for the cpu I wish to install. Or would it be safe to attempt a boot when the bios version does not support the cpu installed?
Slight issue here, when I plugged in the power supply and connected both the 24pin and Cpu or 8pin connecter then plugged in the USB drive in along with a pencil to press on the flash bios. It all worked excepted it flashed for like 5-8 seconds the USB light up for a bit also and then I hear a click in the power supply and nothing else happened afterwards.

Thank you for the video. My BIOS has been updating for two hours, and I recently realized that I left only my M2 drive in (even after you said to take it out 🤦♂️). Best to just wait it out?
When you say use the newest bios I'm assuming you mean the newest stable bios and not the beta? Usually id only get the beta if i needed it for something specific
When I tried this, I made sure to use a non-beta BIOS version, and one of my issues was that the motherboard wouldn't upload the file marked MSI.ROM, so I tried it but I didn't rename it, and it seemed to work, only until the red light stopped flashing and just held a red light for around 7 minutes. What does this mean?
Hey Mike, thanks for the video and being so proactive in answering comments till this day. I just got my MSI mobo and assembled it with my Ryzen 7 5800x3d. The box says AMD 5000 ready but when I turn it on the EzDebug light comes up for BIOS. I did the flash update and now the CPU ezdebug light comes on instead. Any idea why this happens? Thanks for the help!
not sure what is going on there, there isn't a ezdebug led for bios as far as i know just cpu ram vga and boot, but flashing the latest bios in theory should allow that board to see the processor. maybe gve it a go with a slightly older compatible bios verison?
@@mikesunboxing Oh I read the label wrong. It appears to be labelled "BOOT" for the led and not "BIOS". Also, after the flash update, my mobo turns back on with the CPU Ezdebug light on (it was on during the flash too). Does that mean a successful flash or failed flash?

@@mikesunboxing an option to save setting to usb should be used. I know that some settings may not be restored, but it is still better than redoing everything. Especially if you fine tune memory with about 30 settings... 🤔

When I put the file on a brand new flash drive the file is there but so is a bunch of other folders, it okay to have those on the flash drive with bios file or should I delete everything other than that one file?
I am waiting for the edge wifi mobo to arrive. I am installing ryzen 5 5600x. Should I update to the latest bios v19, or do you recommend an earlier version?
i generally recommend going for the second newest, unless you really need the latest, that way it has had time to be tested and should prove to be stable, they may be bugs in a really new bios that have not yet come to light
What about if you are just putting the system together for the first time, like not updating the BIOS but just building your PC for the first time. Is it okay to have all your components (CPU, RAM and GPU) installed and then boot? Or should you do it your way and update the BIOS like this before you even put the system together?
Hello, i have motherboard like this but is has no “5000 series ready” should i update the bios? And if yes can you recommend what version my cpu is 5600x, thanks!
hi the latest bios version which is AMI BIOS 7C56v1E1 (beta version) 2023-06-09 this version supports older version example (AMI BIOS 7C56v1C 2023-03-15) thank you for the answer and nice video thank you
I tried to update my bios with msi center and it like broke or didn’t work or something now when I turn my computer on I get no display and the keyboard and mouse don’t work, will I be able to flash the bios like this if the pc is fully built?
When I turn the pc on all the motherboard lights turn on and gpu lights and the fans, and the cpu debug light is on, but I get no display or keyboard and mouse
So for example, I update my bios when I first got my motherboard to use my 5700x3d cpu, when another bios update is introduced in the future do I update to that bios as well???
hello i have a question, i have (bootable usb) can i reformat the (usb) and use in update bios like this and once im done can i make the usb to bootable again?
I've admittedly already put the computer together and I'm not getting the BIOS screen. I realize now that this mbo needs the update to use my Ryzen 7 5800x I've followed your steps on multiple sticks and I get different reactions. Some read for a second then power on, one reads it and the red light stays solid, and another does the fast and slow blinks but only for a second or two instead of 5 mins then the light goes off and it doesn't power on.

Ciao.
yeah the CSM / UEFI toggle catches a lot of us out. thanks for sharing your experiences wit it 😀
Tnx man ❤️ for full bios details video. 🔥
Our pleasure 😊
Thx, bro! You're the best! Im buying this mobo and other expensive scrap for my pc (as the old one died yesterday:/) I will surely use the discount code for win10 thanks again, you have a new fan in Poland ;)
Thanks benq994, glad we could help :-)
Thanks man, great video. Big help! Just got new main components upgrade and this is a wonderful video.
Glad it helped :-)
Thanks for this. I just got my new Motherboard and 7800x3d and had to flash the bios first. This was very helpful.
Glad it helped and enjoy your cpu
Thanks mike for informative and confidence boosting video. Yes you answered my question about what you should have connected to motherboard lol stay safe 👍
Glad it was helpful!
This is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/gaeeDPw
Same thing here did you ever fix?
I'm further than I was at the start of the video. Thanks! I renamed the file and unplugged the ram and GPU but left mt CPU in. I finally got the flashing though! I had done a flash on another mobo, but I was able to use my ryzen 9 3900x to flash it, so all was well with the MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI, but the MPG B550 Gaming Plus was a no go, so you saved me here. Mine just rebooted, so no red light. I'm gonna plug it all back in and see if it finally posts. If so, you're a life saver.
Hope it works
@@mikesunboxing le sigh, I don't have keyboards lighting up. Fans light up and spin. I tried putting in the ryzen 5 5600x despite not even getting it to post on the ryzen 9 5900x, but still no post, still no keyboard lights. Idk with this one. I feel like this was a dud...
I think you might be right
@@mikesunboxing with the other one, I had fans going and keyboard and mouse lighting up. This is an odd one I can't seem to figure out.
You rock!
Hi, just got this Motherboard and updated the BIOS, all gone correctly I hope, updated for the Ryzen 7 5800x

@@mikesunboxing all went smooth, now i just have to buy a new cooler, because i have the stock one, and a new grapichs card for the bottleneck

Just had a question, how come you did not download the 16 version which was the latest but instead the 2nd newest one?
betas of new bios could be unstable
''Make sure that you don't have power on before attempting to flash install" That is vital on MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk Wi-Fi START THE BIOS UPDATE BY PRESSING THE FLASH BUTTON, THE BOARD WILL THEN ACTIVATE THE BIOS UPDATE. I spent over 4 hours with many usb pen drives with the power applied and failing every time!
It does not make sense, without power, how you gonna get the board running? Once you plugged usb, you turn power on as the video indicates.
Think he is saying not to boot pc or press the power button maybe ?
Thanks. Nice, calm and informative instruction video. :)
Glad it was helpful!
So is THIS how you recommend STARTING with this (or any MB) before attaching or doing anything else? Also do you install the BETA or non-BETA BIOS?
The MSI guide videos and instructions don't show you to install things like this, which for a novice builder is VERY confusing. They make out as if you should attach everything THEN do the BIOS and all drivers.
i normally do the bios first and preferably a non beta one if possible
Thank you for this, really helped.
Glad to hear it!
Cheers Mike. You are a legend ! You helped me with fan speed control too. Just one question, for a new B550 Gaming Plus, with a Ryzen 7 5700X, should I always flash with the latest Bios version, or an earlier version?
get the newest one, unless it is a beta and only a few days old, that might be buggy and hasn't had enough time for widespread testing
Legend ! And do you recommend staying up to date with "non beta" releases?
Thank you a lot, you are the champion of the champions !

You're welcome! bonjour!
Thank you very much! It seemed so scary, but turned out to be easy. ❤
You're welcome 😊
When you did it you powered on ur pc or you just press flash bios and let it do its job?
@@mgloc1 put in the usb stick on the designated spot and pressed flash bios, when ez debug light turned off i took out the stick and turned off the system, although it seems my motherboard is broken since it doesnt register my gpu, even the fans aren't spinning when i turn it on, and ez debug led shows no gpu
Thanks, this worked perfectly for me.
Great to hear!
Hey Mike,
why do you connected the CPU supply cable? I thought I don't need the CPU?
Greetings from germany!
you need the power and not the cpu for some reason
Hope it'll fix my motherboard problems. Thanks for this
Hi Mike, how are you? I'm building a computer with a Ryzen 5600G, I'm going to use only the processor's integrated video. I have a question about which motherboard to pick, the one in the video or a B550 Aorus Elite. What's your opinion?
yes that is a good choice and not too bad a price at the moment

I have a question about PSU can i use corsair vs450 while doing this for temporary? I have the same board, tia!
yes sure
Mike, thank you for this guide, saved my bacon. Product reviews were saying their hardware was supported right out of the box, but certainly not mine. Saved me a ton of heartache.
Glad I could help!
FYI this was on a B550 gaming carbon wifi and it’s the same process.
thanks for the info, very helpful cheers
Do I need to flash the bios when I buy the board now, or is it good to go without flashing? I would be mounting a Ryzen 7 5800X.
check for the ryzen 5000 ready sticker on the box, if it has it then you don't need a flash, if it says 3000 series ready then you will need to flash the bios
@@mikesunboxing Thanks
@@iLeProds No problem :-)
@ducanhle did you have to flash the bios ? I just bought the same motherboard and cpu ?
Thank you for your help. In my case, My pc is already built and the cpu is already in there with my aio cooling. Is it still okay to do the same process? My mobo is z490 with lga 1200 socket originally for 10th gen intel. But i bought an 11th gen cpu so I have to do this in order to completely boot my pc up onto a monitor
yes that should be fine if the board has usb flashback
Why exactly do you recommend using a USB 2.0? Is it just personal preference, or is there a deeper thought behind it?
more compatibility really but most drives are okay
@@mikesunboxing Thanks, have a great day :)
@@danielmuller1015 You too 🙂
Definitely had to dig up my smallest oldest thumb drive for the board to read it.
Every other time it either flashed slow and didn’t light up the board, or it’d flash for a second and then go solid.
all working now?
@@mikesunboxing YES! I can’t thank you enough for demonstrating how long it takes, btw. Most people would just skip it to make the video more “engaging” lol
@@DaringDomino3s Glad you got it working 🙂
Hey great video. But was wondering if it is possible to boot to bios to check what version is installed without a cpu in? The build I'm making needs newer than x version for the cpu I wish to install. Or would it be safe to attempt a boot when the bios version does not support the cpu installed?
it is safe to attempt it but if not supported it won't boot, and won't harm it either

Ive been trying to flash my bios on this board but when I press the flash bios button the red light goes solid instead of blinking, what should I do?
try another USB drive and make double sure the file name and format is correct
Thanks so much I got it to flash
awesome! nice one, please leave a like if the video helped and share if you think it might help others
Thank you for the video. My BIOS has been updating for two hours, and I recently realized that I left only my M2 drive in (even after you said to take it out 🤦♂️). Best to just wait it out?
turn it off and retry
When you say use the newest bios I'm assuming you mean the newest stable bios and not the beta? Usually id only get the beta if i needed it for something specific
if the beta contains a very important security patch i would use it otherwise the next newest non beta
What does this mean?
not sure, try booting it and see what happens
thanks to that comment i found my problem quick
@@Wollnox great 🙂
