I've read that in Japanese cities, to buy a car you have to prove that you've got space to park it on your own (or rented) terrain - no parking on public roads and sidewalks when at home. I'd guess that the concrete patches in front of the low density housing are their own parking spots.
The smaller ones aren't regulated. At least in rural areas. But in general Japan sees parking as something the car owner should take care of and not the general public. A very good stance IMHO.
@@Hinkel84 It was brought up to CO by the content creators during their visit in Finland and i think CO themselves confirmed it in a steam post after that event happened. Phil (City Planner Plays) talks about it often.
The fun part about housing in Japan is that the building codes don't really limit your design. You can see a lot of wacky houses built right next to a conserved traditional home, and it's a nice contrast of how Japan constantly straddles the line between tradition and modernity.
love the fact most of them can fit in any city, we need more packs with only low and high commercials buildings and parks, they mostly focus on service buildings
The sign on the hospital reads 原戸公園クリニックHarato (surname) + kouen (public park) + kurinikku (clinic). Couldn't find a place with that name. The extension reads 人間ドック健診センター Ningendokku (medical check-up) + kenshin ((abbr) physical examination probably for 健康 kenkou (health, sound, wholesome) and 診察 shinsatsu (medical examination) or 診療 shinryou medical examination and treatment, diagnosis,)) + sentaa (centre, center) The writing on the second hospital was a bit difficult to see but I think it reads 原戸記念病院 Harato (surname) + kinen (commemoration; celebration; remembrance; memory; honoring the memory of) + byouin (hospital) The sign on the "kiosk" reads 計量揀 keiryou (measuring, weighing) + kan/ken/erabu? (select). That one looks a bit strange. That elementary school should have a name plaque at the entrance. Could see the plaque but no chance reading it. Same with the high school. The hall looks a lot like a gymnasium if I had to take a guess. The red sign on the fire house reads 火の用心 hi (fire) no youjin (care, precaution, guarding, caution). The no means of but A no B is B of A. So guarding of fire. The stuff to the left is a bit much and quite small anyways. The slogans on the police station are pretty fun and read みんなで交通安全 犯罪なくして明るい街に minnade (all together) + koutsuuanzen (traffic safety) and 犯罪なくして明るい街に hanzai (crime) + nakushite (without) + akarui (bright, light) + gai (street; quarter; district; area) + ni (particle. in this context it means towards/for the sake of) The backside reads 原戸警察署 Harato (surname) + keisatsusho (police station). The latter was a case of knowing the solution instead of reading to be honest. The red sign on the post office reads (surprise) 郵便局 yuubinkyoku (post office). Shimbun or Shinbun 新聞 means newspaper. Shiranui 不知火 is a surname. A character from King of Fighters comes to mind. Also 2 sumou grand champions. (At least according to my dictionary.) The last of the low-density houses had a classic Japanese 倉 kura (warehouse; storehouse; cellar; magazine; granary; godown; depository; treasury; elevator). Love the look of those. The sign in front of the OE reads 大島電器 oojima (surname, big island) + denki (electric (goods)). So OE stands for Oojima Electrics? Hope this was useful or interesting. Not sure if I could have formatted things better. I was really hoping the pack would have some shrines, temples and castles. Can't really do a Japanese city without at least the first two.
You'd think the university addons would have been the other way around; a library extension on the main pad and expandable facilities off it. Bit weird that you can add infinite libraries but can't scale your enrollment. "We can only have twelve thousand students but we have nineteen libraries." Still looks nice, but a bit odd.
This is not what I was expecting from this pack at all. I was thinking high density offices, mass transit, high commercial. Decent assets, and I'm thankful for more commercial buildings.
I have been in Japan for 3 years. The architecture is spot on, but there is way too much parking and yard space for it to be realistic. These would be very expensive houses and not commonly found in urban areas. But these are nice buildings to blend into a regular city design.
At 21:57 you note that they're not meant to be wall-to-wall buildings like Europe, which is true - but the density of Japanese urban areas is such that they actually come pretty close to it... buildings aren't touching, but there's not _much_ separation between them. Along with the narrow roads / alleys, it's a real signature of Japanese cities...
Great video as ever! Downloaded the pack yesterday (not helped by my Wi-Fi cutting out halfway through!) but haven't found a space for it in my British (inspired) build as yet.
Everything has a low income vibe, which I think is necessary in the game for certain areas of the city. Now, the office building look like office building and I love them.
would've thought that the japanese pack would grace us with a baseball field, if not exclusive, then at least integrated into the schools or something.
If you could use the vegetable garden assets you could make a small field of allotments in Kettlewick, I know they’re not as popular now but I still see them filling up small green areas around my town.
Wow I think thats the best looking Pack so far....and everything from the german and british pack was beautiful aswell. But all those Balconies and details...I can see that in so many cities around the globe...Miami, New Orleans...and compared to the Japan pack in CS 1.....killa
It's good but I Mis the shinhkansen train station or the Japanese busses, do you think this is the last regio pack or will there be Italian, Scandinavian Africa or biffonian regional packs😊?
Nuce job on the assets thou they puts too much parking spaces on the buildings imo since most have parking built in nor none at all at least in the big dense areas
Slightly underwhelmed from the point of view of creating a Japanese city, but a lot of these assets will work anywhere. We really need more rail assets!
They should've explored the industrial zoning and just make it different, give me variety. It's okay the region packs, but we need more, we don't need just Japan and Germany, we need complex ideas to make CIties 2 a great game and not just another game. They could have done waaaay better and give MORE vierty, they're just giving a glimpse of what they could have really done. We have soooo much variety, in USA they're gonna be making east and west, and also de vanila ones... But for europe, we have europe, uk and germany. I hope more it's ccoming and not just this vague ideas
You need to click the pdx mods button, add it to a playlet and then use that playset. You can add any other mods you want to use to that playset as well 👍
This may sound stupid but I wonder what they would do for a US region pack or do they base the game already on US because some of these region packs have better assets than the original game
What are your thoughts on trusting Paradox Mods after the hack drama? I just got a new PC and am trying to decide if I want to try using these mods myself.
They did everything they could reasonably do to prevent it and to deal with it when it happened. Take any precautions you would be with anything from the Internet and you'll be fine
@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines yeah, I'd just like to see more midrise offices. I'm sure more are on the way, though. In the mean time, my japanese cities will have very stylish, posh, Paris inspired office areas! LOL
I have idea for Thailand Region pack for CSII if dev open for new region pack program. I'm not modder but i can be your art and design for Thailand pack if anyone want to made it happen.
not a big fan of this pack personally. The assets look great, but its just not my style. I do like the healthcare and the post office. However i notice in every pack the same thing.... New service buildings, but no service vehicles that go with it. (police, fire, trains etc) Lack of region specific monuments. Lack of public transit. (japan has a very recognisable train/metro network) Never no new industrial buildings (Does none of the region have its own style of factories?) And i could continue alot. Its always houses, service buildings and (Some) signature buildings... Again, the pack looks and plays awesome and i will deff use some of its assets. But just this pack is not the one for me.

it is true. The police will come to your house with a tape measure to see if you've got enough space.
The smaller ones aren't regulated. At least in rural areas. But in general Japan sees parking as something the car owner should take care of and not the general public.

I'm disappointed none of the Japanese commercial zones have big rows of vending machines... ☹
there is a line tool coming in the next detailer's patch. You already have access to vending machines in the prop menu. Be creative!

Appreciate how you went right to left for the Japanese pack. That was a nice touch!
😉
6:08 "But mooooommmm, everyone will laugh at me if I'm seen getting dropped off from the small helicopter!" 😂
😅
The helipad on the university is very likely because it is a medical university hospital, there are a few in Japan :)
I guess it's more for emergency evacuation
@@maximeoyamada-perrin7252 You can't really evacuate a whole university with a helipad though. And in an emergency any flat surface will do anyways.

Was expecting some japanese public transits
same but you can make do with what's in the base game. I also think the Modern Architecture pack's train stations fit really well.
I'm visiting friends in Japan right now and have been wanting to recreate Japanese cities in CS2, this is just what I need!
love the fact most of them can fit in any city, we need more packs with only low and high commercials buildings and parks, they mostly focus on service buildings

Biffa, this would be the perfect time to make a dense, Japan-inspired metropolis with winding elevated expressways, multi-level roads, and much more!

Bit weird that you can add infinite libraries but can't scale your enrollment. "We can only have twelve thousand students but we have nineteen libraries." Still looks nice, but a bit odd.
I don't like that the schools have so much dead space, it really forces you to put the upgrades in, but overall looking good.
This is not what I was expecting from this pack at all. I was thinking high density offices, mass transit, high commercial. Decent assets, and I'm thankful for more commercial buildings.
Some of those residential buildings would make a great "high-end" modern housing area in Kettlewick.
14:52 those houses would fit in the USA too, like the Art Deco Miami houses.
Not a bad pack, but nowhere near as good as the UK pack!
Very cool pack also!! I love that they all can be used together and mingle quite well! Thanks for showing them to us🤩
この地域パックは素晴らしいです。日本語で書かなければなりませんでした:)
FINALLY - some new commercial buildings!!!

The wellbeing upgrades for the elementary and high schools were the gyms

I do too 👍
so 80% of the buildings look like parking garages in japan :'D
am i missing the public transport?? japan is famous for it's railway :O
I love all the schools ❤ in particular elementary school, which reminds me of several anime series I'm very fond of 😅
