  • Exploring ProRes Log on the iPhone 15 Pro Max: Native Camera vs Black Magic Camera App
Are you eager to shoot in Apple ProRes Log but unsure which app/ProRes option to choose? 📸 Whether it's the Native Camera with 10-bit HDR or the hefty 4K ProRes Log 422 HQ or the powerful Black Magic Camera, we've got you covered!
In this vlog, I dive deep into the world of ProRes Log, starting with a comparison between 1080p Apple ProRes Log and 4K Apple ProRes Log. Then, I put the Black Magic Camera app to the test, exploring all its ProRes HDR options side by side: 422 HQ vs 422 vs 422 LT vs 422 Proxy vs H265 vs H264.
    Key Highlights:
    - Filmed mostly handheld on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with just an SSD for extra storage.
    - Used default color correction from Final Cut Pro for a straightforward approach (luma fusion is actually way more complex to color correct).
    - Minimal gear and settings to emulate a simple point-and-shoot experience (no NDs, no tripods or gimbals) .
Which ProRes Log to chose for your shoots?
Depends on the shoot but as a rule for me ProRes Log is fantastic for events or scenic shots where you plan to invest time in color grading. Otherwise, its large file size and complexity might not be worth your hassle.

    🤫 POCKET 3 VS iPHONE 15 Pro Max ruclips.net/video/pWKkkou6dTw/видео.htmlsi=DEUgYLpCC4sXTME2
    #buildInPublic & ProRes choices 👇👇👇
    *Time invested in this video*
Shooting: roughly half a working day (3-5 hours) - 👍
Edit time per minute of video: roughly 2 hours - 🤦‍♂
Time from shoot to uploaded video: 4-5 days - 😒
Conclusion after video: I need to edit better & faster.
    *My ProRes choices*
    Most popular choice:
4k HDR - Native camera if I shoot my vlog or vacation
if I shoot something important and I have more time to color grade (events or products):
4k 24 ProRes Log on Native Camera
Less impact on storage & setup:
ProRes 1080p Native Camera or ProRes 422 LT BlackMagic is just right

I like the stabilisation on the native app (Final Cut Camera), so, I'd use 4K HDR for daily stuff.
For something worthwhile, I'd opt for BlackMagic Cam, HEVC + Apple Log.
For something important, I'll put the phone down and get my a7 IV.

Hey, one question thou, so I used the native camera not the final cut camera this time but agreed daily stuff 4kHDR is the way to go and black magic for/apple log if it feels special.
I played with the a7 IV and the fx30 for me, unless it is an important shoot or an interview I am just too tired to carry more stuff in the heat of summer (we have around 102F or 42Celsius around here) I just can't do it anymore.

@@VictorReviewsGarage you mean "one comment"? 🙂
I am not sure if there is any difference between the native app and FCC in terms of "post-processing", but I'd like to be on the safe side and prefer to have less over-processed HDR videos.
Luckily summer in Denmark is cancelled this year, so, not too hot... I use a sling bag by Peak Design. I can fit all my gears inside.

Black Magic Camera - ProRes 422 LT . Native camera 1080p ProRes Log looks decent. 4k HDR Native camera is as always great, most common choice

still, unless I do a lot of editing I would not go for the big prores at all :D

ProRes is ProRes. H265 is H265. There is nothing call ProRes H265.

Did you mean you chose prores over h265?
otherwise absolutely, it is literally a different choice in the Black Magic app menu :D ProRes is one and H265 is another :D
