I much more prefer this to an minifig, it feels more natural, and the additional interactivity makes it so much cooler to own. I think they nailed it here.
I hope We get lego Mario minifigures with a new Mario movie releasing soon but this starter course looks fantastic can't wait to get my hands on it. I hope they do something like this with Sonic

I must say, this has grown on me a lot with the full reveal and gameplay.
The strength of LEGO is the regular pieces that offer lot's of options. I wonder how well this tech will work in 10 years.

I'm more excited to get this than I thought I would be. Especially with the preorder bonus set, and anything else I decide to impulse buy, it could be surprisingly fun, even for an older fan like myself.

I find alot of the fun I'm getting from this atm is, creating your own little challenges.
Where for example I have to make mario jump on the goomba once, then has to tap on each platform running back and forth in order so he can get another chance at stomping the goomba again
Or where mario has to jump on a lava platform and you have to physically run from one part of the course to another part of the course in the room before he burns and gets injured.
Even a literal egg and spoon race as well with the cloud (preferably holding your hand underneath to make sure you don't drop him on the floor 🤣).
You could make it where he has to spin around the balance wheel 5 times before you can move on, if he falls you have to try again.
Needless to say, I'm kinda surprised how much it got my imagination going for such a simple little concept.
I feel this so much. I’m just letting my imagination go wild with this system!
Some people could make a lot of money by making bootlegs of characters that have not been made yet

I would hope that for the final release they add some kind of under layer for Mario's eyes and mouth, that way when the screens aren't on (which they probably won't be most of the time, all things considered), you aren't looking at empty blackness.
My brother and I went to Target today and we saw the starter set. They had two left in stock so we put them in our shopping cart. We were so excited until the checkout we were told we could not purchase these sets. It was so sad because we had been waiting for so long and we have been so excited. We are going back on August 1 to hopefully purchase it for real.

Yes, they had 2 starter sets at our local Target. But the sets would not scan. I have heard Walmart is a better place to search for them.

I'm in the process of making a brickbuilt replica of this figure (it's very hard because the facial features do not scale to real bricks) and this video examining it from head to toe is really helpful!

There aren’t blind bags, there are power-up packs, and the boxes show the suit.

The electronic stuff makes me think that this is good. But the omission of a playable character from the cheap sets is a shame. You can only really appreciate the line if you splash out the cash and I'm not a fan of that.
but then again how are they gonna implement the mario thing, anyways it is like a dlc pack and not pay to win, its more like pay to have more fun.
Well, if Mario was in all of the sets, they wouldn't be cheap. That thing's expensive to make.
@@davidmducc The issue with that is some kid is gonna get a set without Mario in it because the parents didn't realize and they won't have the money to buy a set that includes one. Selling sets without Mario in it is a bad idea. Not everyone is gonna get the Starter Pack so making the other sets DLC isn't a good idea.
They should make a minifig version of Mario with a pamphlet that explains a non-digital way to play. That should fix the issue. Cheap to make, and means that you don’t require Digi-Mario to play.

Lego have been making more and more 'adult' oriented sets, so I think it's fair to expect they'll make a normal minifig series of sets which are more for display/older fans.
You can't fault Lego for making a more interactive toy set; kids are less and less interested in traditional toys and more into digital games, so I think this is a good idea for them to try and bridge that gap.
As if. This is a kids toy. I was just wondering if kids would like Mario or if they'd be like "wtf is Mario!"

I love this design! I personally think that mini figures wouldn’t be an appropriate representation of the SUPER MARIO Series

Ok here's something I was wondering in a while: once you defeat an enemy / finish a minigame / hit a question mark block do the pieces just stop interacting with Mario or are you still able to collect coins reusing them anyway?
They will still work with the exception of the flagpole.
