I met Ernie at a convention once, he was sitting by himself at a table, with no line. I got to talk to him for about ten minutes. Absolutely the nicest guy. This interview makes me love him all the more. God bless!
@@vg4life yeah, definitely. That's how I got to meet John Schneider and Lou Ferigno at the same convention. Sitting there with no one at their tables... I guess the young kids don't know a legend when they see one.
I love Ernie Hudson, the crow, air heads, the hand that rocks the cradle, Oz. I know he's known for Ghostbusters and I'm a huge fan of that movie but his career is just so much more than that.
I'm glad someone brought up The Crow, that is my favorite film of all time. It was nice to hear him talk so kindly about Brandon Lee. It really is sad that he's gone. Other than that, was hoping someone would ask Ernie about his role on Oz.. absolutely LOVED that show!
This was truly fascinating. I greatly admire Ernie for always being his authentic self. He didn't do it in defiance or angrily, he did it because it didn't seem logical to be any one else or play characters in inauthentic ways. It's simple, just be you, just be real.
Big fan of Mr Hudson, it always makes me happy when I come across something he's in. Also, DAMN. 75? He looks at *least* 15 years younger, that's insane. :D
I listen to this off RUclips and am often doing work with this in the background...I could have listened to Ernie for a few more hours..the way he words things. He seems like he has thousands more stories to tell.
Ernie was so great to listen to. What an awesome man! I really enjoyed getting to know him more. And no way does he look anywhere near 75!!!! I want what ever he has!
I kind of latched on to persons of color in popular predominantly white cinema growing up so that I could see myself represented. Ernie Hudson did that for me a lot. I hope I get a chance to meet him if we ever get conventions going again. But if not, I’m so glad I got this opportunity to meet him through you. And also, I honestly can’t believe he’s 75 years old! Thanks again!
I loved this. What’s so amazing is that we had the same parenting style. Sometimes all it takes is a look. Lol. Thanks for this interview. By the way, he looks amazing for 75.
I'm 25. I did not grow up watching Ghostbusters. I'm going to IMDB him after this but Ghostbusters is the only thing I can think of that I know I've seen him in. What I'm saying Is I did not know a thing about Ernie Hudson before this video but now I want to know even more! Such a genuine, chill and honest guy. I get the sense that he can get along with pretty much anyone and everybody. I just might go out of my way to see some more of his work now 😊
"Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!" I'm so freaking excited for this episode!!! Love Ernie Hudson and Ghostbusters!! This is a part of my childhood. I would watch those movies over and over again. I also played the video game on the Wii. Can't wait to hear what stories he is going to share. Thank you so much for getting him on the podcast Michael. I know I have said this many times and you probably get sick and tired of hearing it. THANK YOU for always getting the best guests and for all the you do. I'm so truly grateful for you and this amazing podcast 💙 Thank you so much! Happy Tuesday ^_^
Man this was amazing! This man is my ALL TIME favorite actor! My first memory of Ernie Hudson was in a film called “Everything’s Jake” that I saw in class when I was about 9 or 10 years old and he plays this homeless guy named Jake and I had never been more moved by a film than I was while watching “Everything’s Jake”. Then I was watching TV Land one day in the lobby of my mom’s friend’s hair salon and I was watching “The Incredible Hulk” series with Bill Bixby from the 70s and he was in this blaxploitation type episode where he plays the strong arm guy in a gang and he beats up Bill Bixby. I saw him and I was like “OH That’s the guy from ‘Jake’!”, I couldn’t believe it. Then I saw him in “Fakin’ Da Funk when I was about 10. When I was about 13 (I’m 24 now) I really got into HBO’s “Oz”. I’m watching and there he was as Warden Glynn and I couldn’t believe it then I just said “screw it” and I got a list of his filmography and went out and looked for as many of his movies as I could. I found “Basketball Diaries”, “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle”, “The Crow”, “Butter”, etc. I didn’t really see “Ghostbusters” until I was 19 even though I was very familiar with it. So I finally watched it one Friday night and I was disappointed because I had known for years that he was in it and this was supposed to be his most famous role and he’s barely in the film. I was watching the movie specifically for Ernie. The 2nd one was much of the same thing. But I like “Ghostbusters” nonetheless but Ernie is THE MAN! He is criminally underrated and deserves so much more recognition and respect for his true talent as an actor.🖤👍🏾
It shouldn't be so much work to find Ernie Hudson in movies. I mean, he's working all the time, but I never seem to know about it until I'm watching the movie. I remember seeing THE CROW, when it came out, and thinking "Oh, hey - Ernie Hudson! Cool!" And he's one of those actors I'm always glad to see in a movie or show, whether I'm expecting it or not. Thanks for having him on and sharing it with us!
Going to watch in a few minutes and I’m very excited to! Loved him in Ghostbusters and also The Crow! Excited to learn more about him! I’m sure it will be a great interview as usual, Rosey! 😘💙
I met Ernie at a convention in Dallas, way back in 2008. He was very gracious, signing an 8x10 from The Crow for me - I still have it. I never had the chance to meet him again, mainly because cons have become so ridiculously expensive in recent years. But if prices settle back down, maybe I'll go back someday...time will tell.
Michael, I have listened to 3 of the interviews you have done and I must say, I am impressed. You are doing an excellent job. Also, in my humble opinion, you are the Gold Standard for the way to play Lex Luther. In this interview at about 56 minutes in, Ernie Hudson was talking about the missing back story on his character in Ghostbusters. I just wanted to say, when I saw the movie, the backstory that my mind automatically filled in about his character was that he was a person who appeared to have been out of work and was just trying to hustle to get a job. That the character was not the type of person who wanted a handout but had actual self-worth and would do a job to make ends meet and to be able to pay his bills. That may just be my own bias based on the way I was raised but that is how the character came across to me. Also, I agree with the kids that asked him the question about where he went when he was not working with the ghostbusters. I think they should have done a short sequence on that. Keep up the excellent interviews Michael, I am recommending you channel to everyone I know.
Great interview!!!💯💯💯I love this guy. I’m 42 yrs old now and I meet him when I was kid on the opening day for universal studio Florida. Nice guy then and I still get excited to see that he is still Relevant now. I’m always rooting for him. Just like You guys from Smallville. You guys got me through 4 combat tours and I own all the 10 seasons. Thx MR for this awesome choice of an interview. 💯🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯❤️❤️
75?!?!?!!?! Omg!!! He DOES look incredible for his age! Holy crap! Always loved Ernie Hudson. He's my favorite Ghostbuster. Glad I got a chance to meet him at DragonCon a few years back :)
I could listen to Ernie talk for hours. Such an insightful and thoughtful individual. His appearance is of a 50 year old, voice of a 40 year old, and energy of a 30 year old. Keep going strong, Ernie. Edit: Don't worry too much about how people see you man. Just do your thing and people appreciate your genuine nature so of course the guest will like you.
About 10 years ago I went to a comic convention in Houston called Comicpalooza. Ernie Hudson was one of the guests. However, money was tight, so I didn’t go through any of the autograph lines and I feel a little weird about that kind of thing. One morning I was having breakfast at the adjacent hotel and noticed Ernie Hudson was having breakfast a couple tables over. Anyway, I didn’t bother him, but I thought it was pretty cool that I was having breakfast a couple tables over from such a legend.
I bought 4 Winston's just for the proton stream he comes with, but I love having 4 Winstons and he was always my favorite. He's the everyman, such as myself. I can't keep up with the nerds. Love you Ernie, if I ever have the chance to attend a con I'm gonna stalk you ( not really, just love the guy, love his acting). In a lot of my favorite movies.
Wow. Ernie Hudson. Never expected you to get inside of him or anyone from Ghostbusters. Hopefully there's a nugget about the new movie that should have been out last June.
Great episode and really happy to hear his quick thoughts on Winston in the new movie! Also, I may have picked up a couple fathering tips in this one, including Rosenbaum's "Mall Arm" maneuver and the Ernie Hudson "Don't make me go there" look.
One additional tip lol, since watching Cesar Milan' s dog training show my dad has started using the "Psssst!" Technique... not just on the dog lol. It works on the 14 year old dog, it does not work on his adult children
That was great! I loved listening to Ernie! I also can't believe he's 75!?!? My mouth literally dropped. I hope he comes back to the podcast. I really enjoyed it this week.
I'm almost done re-watching OZ on HBO currently for the millionth time - awesome guest, I can't wait! 😀 OZ had the one of the best casts of all time, imo 🥰
So excited for this one! Ghostbusters is definitely a film that holds a lot of memories for me growing up and carrying into my adult life. Thanks for asking my question which has been in my head since I first saw the movie. 😂 Also. Fun fact. I actually received the Ghostbusters DVD as a wedding present because I scanned it on my registry. I’m weird and you know this. 🤣Looking forward to hearing more about Ernie and his life.
Gotta admit. Don’t know much about Ernie(except that I loved him in Ghost Busters). Looking forward to learning more about him and his upcoming projects ( maybe even the new Ghost Busters movie?) 😉😀
First words coming to mind to describe Ernie, after hearing this interview are wise...and strong. He has a lot of good advice and it seemed to come almost naturally to him. And all his stories showed such strength of will and character. Growing up without parents too...I mean, this man. Inspiring life and not just to actors. An amazing interview. Makes me want to watch Ghostbusters again too. Thanks Inside of You for bringing him on.
I can count the number of times I've ever commented on two fingers. Here's the third time. Great actor, fine human being, great insights and stories. Pleasure to see him. What's his secret for looking so young still?
Ernie Hudson is one of those actors who you don't put in the "super" category, but always enjoy his performances and then realize how many great films he's in. The guy's IMDB page is like 6 pages long....
Great interview. What an absolutely amazing guy Ernie is. I always love him in everything I see him in, and am so excited to see some new story for Winston! Nice work Michael!
I can't believe that I just found out that Rosenbaum has a podcast. I've watched one episode each day this week, and will continue until I'm caught up. I watched all 10 seasons of Smallville in real time, bought the DVDs as soon as they came out. Keep up the great work!!
Great, great interview. It’s only been within the last decade or so that when I’ve watched the Ghostbusters movies I realized how underused Ernie was. Aside from Ghostbusters, I always think of Ernie as the principal in The Substitute and, more so, as Captain Monroe Kelly in The Congo. His “I’m your great white hunter...though I’m black” made me chuckle when I first heard it. I recall leaving the theatre with my buddies talking about how cool the character was.
Ernie was fantastic this week, hope you folks dig it 💙 Make sure to subscribe!
Please get Dan aykroyd and bill Murray to be on the podcast then you can do a Ghostbusters reunion.
Also once this whole covid thing is over are you gonna get back into acting or are you gonna do this full time?
Congrats on the new band, and website. 👌 Looks great! Can't wait to hear the new album.
This episode had me in tears from laughing. Ernie is absolutely great.
Hey Lex,I've been subbed to you for years, since you were friends with Clark Kent
I want to send you a card!!! But idk how to send it to you 🥺
I do not believe for a second Ernie is 75 here. He looks great.
Yeah he keeps his health in good condition & aged well. Just like Winona Ryder - Who aged well too. I'm impressed about him.
Some once said a certain color of skin doesn't break or something like that
He will live past 120! and then come back as a ghost for ghostbusters 2060 remake. :)
No one does

@@InsideOfYouPodcast your replies mean a lot, thanks s Michael.
This is an amazing interview and I've learned so much from it. Thank you!
I'm a big fan of Ernie Hudson.
Rosenbaum, I'd love to see you interview James Earl Jones.
Me too! - Rosey
