Kevin Smith joins us this week to discuss his roller coaster experience in this industry from surprised early fame with Clerks, to battling a sophomore slump with Mallrats, and eventually maturing to a level of creating without worrying about peer or critic approval.
Kevin gets deep into the idea of attaining early success and the feeling of always having to produce from that point forward to prevent getting kicked out of the club.
We also get into his graduation moment with Stan Lee, his thoughts on the new CW Universe, and his take on freedom in expression.
KEVIN SMITH (2020) | Inside of You Podcast w/ Michael Rosenbaum #insideofyou - Развлечения
Great episode with the one and only Kevin Smith. Complete open book. Support the pod 💙
I tweeted to you two a couple years ago saying you should do a podcast together. Cool it finally happened, now you should go on Fatman Beyond 👍
Favourite all time episode with 2 of the best humans. Thanks for this Michael 👍
Yea man love that dude love u too man thank u for all the great free content I've been having a shot time the last couple of months I'm from nyc n it's tough living here n for the hour or so that u upload a show u help me cope n escape for a bit u inspire give insight n help give perception on things keep up the good work mike 💯💪🏿💯🙌🏿💯 I awesome find it cool that your a cancer as well #giftncurse 🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️✌🏿😵🤣😵
Man... you get downright Wellesian in your tone and delivery. Hope you never quit your pod. Your already good and are only gonna grow and branch like a Sequoia in the annals of time.
Your rant at the start about people subscribing actually worked. I've watched a bunch since I seen the Jim Jefferies episode and you got me to subscribe lol.
Anyone who actually watched Smallvile KNOWS Michael is the best Lex.
Without a doubt! In my opinion everyone who's played Lex has done a good job but Rosenbaum is on a whole different level!
He’s the second best, Jon Cryer took Michael’s spot as the best Lex
@@robertjackson6056 I haven't seen all of Cryer's performance yet (just a bit from Crisis). So far he didn't do it for me?
@@robertjackson6056 He's Really Good but I feel like his viscousness isn't as strong as Michaels. Loved the casting choice though cause Jon Cryer played Lex nephew Lenny in Superman lV: The Quest for Peace.
For me Michael is my prototype on screen Lex. He's portrayal is wonderfully subtle and not manic like Cryer or Hackman (not to say they are bad, they are just not how I see Lex)
I work as a background extra, and I have to say, Kevin Smith was one of the most enjoyable pros I've ever been on set with. He never talked to me directly or anything (which is 100% normal; directors rarely talk to BG) but his whole energy and attitude and way of communicating on set was just so upbeat and relaxed. He made everyone feel included and hyped to do the job. He was just one of those people who you see what they're like for a single day, and you think, I like, respect, and trust this person.
Who is the worst person you’ve seen??
Ha! I did some too. I was on Nuremberg with Alec Baldwin and Christopher Plummer. Plummer came over and hung out with the extras, he was just so down to earth and nice!
@@pab1381 Easy. I was sitting with the other extras, the understudy for the female lead was this stunning Italian looking woman. She was sitting quietly near us. Baldwin comes over and starts hitting on her. He was married to Kim Basinger at the time. I remember hearing the things he was saying and CRINGING. He was saying things like "Oh there's a party at the producers place this weekend, you should come, could be great for your career..." we all knew what he meant. Her reply was the best tho: "Sorry, I'm spending the weekend with my mom." Basically saying "f__K off you degenerate.."
Us extras all started laughing hahahahaha Baldwin walked away all pissed and she didn't GAF!
I'm sure he's a great guy but he hasn't made a good movie since Dogma.
@@robzilla730 Maybe. But I'd rather be a great guy who makes bad movies than a bad guy who makes great movies. Honestly, I'd be cool with being a good guy who makes _any_ movies. Cooler job than mine.
As much as I loved Clerks, for me, the movie that gave Kevin a lifetime pass is Dogma. Such a great movie.
I fucking loved that movie when I was a teen. Nothing better than getting really high and eating your way through the home pantry whilst watching dogma.
I have t agree Dogma was his best and Alan Rickman was so fricken great🎭
I love Dogma!! Agreed!
What are you going to do? Hit me with that fffffish?
Alan Rickman and Chris Rock are FUCKING phenomenal in Dogma.
Kevin Smith has the most immaculate memory I've ever seen. It's unreal how much that dude can just recall at a moment's notice.
To be fair he didn't start smoking weed until like 10 years ago lol
Plus he's told most of the stories many, many times that it's like a rehearsed speech at this point...
Until you see him on a live podcast and he can't remember the name of someone he was supposed to remember from 6 minutes ago...
I grew up about 15 minutes from where Kevin did. Met him many times and even did background in a few movies he was involved in. Let me just say that he is the most humble and down to Earth guy there is. He gave me a tour of his office on Broad Street and I didn't leave empty handed (signed books and posters). Such a good dude!! It was sad when he left NJ. But I will always support every project he does.
"The moment you create something, you won...everything after is just an asterisk and statistics."
Damn, i knew this would be entertaining. Didn't expect it to be so inspiring.
I’ve been a fan of Kevin Smith since Mallrats. His podcasts are hilarious and insightful, especially Fatman Beyond. He and Marc Bernardin really work well together. I’d really like to see Kevin and Michael work together on a movie or host a podcast together or something. This was a great conversation.
Same. In fact, I so prefer MALLRATS over Clerks. I look elsewhere for my artsy fartsy stuff
But he must burn in hell because of He Man.
More of Mallrats fan than Clerks fan . He's a fanboy that's a great storyteller . Still don't know why he wasn't Oscar nominated for DOGMA .
I absolutely love and adore Kevin Smith. I’ve been a fan since Clerks was released. I admire everything about that man and had the pleasure of meeting him last year as well. Total bucket list item for me. Can’t wait to hear the whole interview! ❤️
You'll dig it! 💙
What I love about Michael Rosenbaum and Kevin Smith is that they're fans first, actors second.
Good 'ole Kev, usually someone asks him a question and then he talks for the next hour, this time he asked Michael a question ....... and then talked for the next hour 😂
That’s why we love him tho.
Sure, but after hearing about filmmaking from Kevin for 30 minutes or so, Michael soft pitches a horror movie. He never said help me with money, he never said what it was about, he just said how he didn't know what to do with that script. Pitching the script hasn't born fruit. So Kevin sells Michael on making it himself, and stop worrying about the reviews and stress. What we won't see is the inside baseball of them talking horror movies and how he could ACTUALLY make the movie. At least, that's what I hope.
I immediately loved Mallrats when I saw it in the theater. I went to see it two more times. I had never even seen Clerks or heard of Kevin Smith before Mallrats.
Kevin Smith is a living Legend. Clerks is timeless and Mike and Tom should do their own show inspired by Clerks.
I've met Jay in person. Now I've got to meet Silent Bob himself, the legend, Kevin Smith. And Mr. Rosenbaum too! Love the podcast.
I love it when you put a quarter in the Kevin Smith machine. It's great value for money, you can just drop that quarter in and sit back for 15 minutes.
Simply adore this kind and talented man.Truly inspirational❤️
one of a kind
With Kevin life now focused on mental health, a second visit to "In Side of You" would be a standout episode.
Kevin Smith is always fun to listen to for a few hours. He always puts things in perspective.
Dogma and Zac n Mira r in my top fave comedies of all time.😍😍😍 I can watch every year and find more 2 love. (Never got Clerks, but glad so many did)
I found this very Interesting, as I just got a job at a Home Depot I worked with a guy who we were both actors and he talked about some guy named Kevin Smith and some movie called "Clerks" while I retorted about some guy named Robert Rodriguez and a movie called "El Mariachi" . The year was 1995 and both of us had done some low budget movies and I was a stunt man on a television show in Florida
Had to grab some chocolate covered pretzels, because I knew that with Rosenbaum AND Kevin Smith talking it was going to be a long one. Loved it!
🤢
Don't stink palm yourself bro lol
I remember walking through the Eden Prairie Mall in MN while they were shooting Mallrats. Ever since then, I’ve been a Kevin Smith fan and a comic book geek!
Yay!! So excited for this one! Always knew of him and his work but excited to learn so much more!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!
Kevin is someone I would LOVE to get stoned and talk Movies with! Great Job Michael!
This was such a great interview. My favourite one so far!

Two legends. So greatful for these interviews. Cheers from NZ Michael.
Catching up on some of the older podcasts. This was delightful af to watch. Beautiful conversation between you two. I loved this 😊🖤.
Another great episode. Thank you guys. Have a fantastic week.
So much love for Kevin and Michael! Great show!
So glad this came out right now. I've been struggling with this online school crap and now I finally have a bad excuse to slack off. Thank you Michael bro I love these!
This was an awesome surprise. Love both of you guys!
Such a great episode. The insights that Kevin has about directing was so informative. Bouncing back after failure is so important.
Great one. What is special about your podcast is that I always learn something new about your guests.
I love everything Kevin Smith has put out, Clerks II is my favorite film of his and “Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms!”
been wanting you two to pair up for ever! my two of my three favourite podcasters.
Really loved this episode, Kevin Smith is one of my favorite people on Earth. Thank you for the amazing content
Loved this interview so much really felt like two people getting to know one another and just chatting I felt like I was just sat at a table with a drink and listening so relaxing and so fun I loved it xx
Another amazing and fantastic episode!
this was such a pleasure to watch
How can someone dislike this video?
This is an amazing podcast.
Another great interview. Thanks Michael.
Absolutely Awesome 👍 I have always been a Kevin Smith fan. Glad you had him on your show. Always love your podcasts.
This is the Absolute Best episode to date !
Thanks Kevin and Michael !
😁👍🌴☀️
Man I have been looking forward to this! You rock Michael🎵 💙👍
Mallrats was the first Kevin Smith movie I ever saw, and it immediately hooked me. I became an instant lifelong fan because of that film alone.
Absolutely great episode
ALWAYS more Kevin Smith, Rosenbaum!!! Love your guests, love your podcast!
I'm lovin' your podcast man.
Lovely interview guys thank you
I'm so excited for this episode!! Love Kevin Smith!!! Thank you so much for getting him on the podcast Rosey! Keep up the awesome work and thank you for always getting the best guests. Happy Tuesday ^_^ 💙
Happy Tues 💙💙
This the crossover I didnt expect. My 2 favorite podcasters
One of my favorite directors/podcasters ever. Loved see'ing him on here with Michael and the crew. Hope to you see you guys work together on a project somehow with the great chemistry you guys have.
Kevin Smith is a national treasure and a real king of the geeks!!!
I'm an Entertainment Business student right now at Full Sail University, ten months into my degree program. I have been a really big fan of Kevin Smith since after I saw "Chasing Amy" and I cannot tell you why that is one of my favorite Kevin Smith movies but it spoke to me. The advice that he has is so valuable to anyone entering the Entertainment Business.
Some day, I'm hopeful that I will be standing on the set of a movie or a tv show that I have not only written but created outright. I would also like to meet Kevin Smith one day as for me, he seems like the only genuine creator out there these days.
Kevin Smith is my boy, I love Kevin Smith.
Kevin is such a great interview, he really makes it easy haha!!
I love your podcast and i really love this one with kevin i'm a big fan of yours and his
oh hell yes two of my favorite people i never thought Id see together!!!
What I love about your show is you show the human side to celebrities or whatever guest you have. I take the train to work and listen on the way. It's a great way to normalize my life. I struggle with anxiety and have learnt how to cope through the years, but listening to you and your guests is REFRESHING.
All these podcasts are getting me threw lockdown. God bless you Michael 🙏
Honestly, Kevin Smith is greatly underrated, the dude made Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma was fucking awesome
He isn't underrated, he just sucks now and constantly lies to his fans
Great episode. I've never heard Kevin speak before. Very interesting person with lots of great stories.
Thanks Michael. Stay well and be safe.
That's why i love this show because they talk about their mental health and their feelings and it makes you realize that actors are people first. You have your larger than life eccentrics like Depp or Cruise and it's hard for normal people to relate to them but then you have people like Rosenbaum and Kevin Smith who just seen like normal dudes who act and direct for a living and they just seem more down to earth
YAYYYY two of my favorite people in a podcast together! Clerks and Mallrats are some of my favorite movies of all time and I had no idea that Mallrats bombed--crazy! I watched those over and over and over and I think Jay and Silent Bob Strike back was one of my first opening night midnight showings I ever went to (back when I could stay up that late!)
DUDE NO WAY! am so hyped rn
Great interview :)
Need to do a parody remake of The Thing with you, Smith, Ammell,Cavill, Welling, Gustin,,and i don't know who else..
My two favorite podcators, love this team up :)
Michel's easiest interview ever - say hello, bit of chit chat, ask a question, then let Kevin talk.
Love hearing him tell his stories and you can tell he's well liked by those who give him the chance.
Kevin Smith has such great dialogue in his movies, most comedies don’t really go for deep long drawn out dialogue but Kevin goes there and I love it
I love Kevin Smith and found this podcast. When I realized that it was your podcast I subscribed. I enjoy you as an actor.
Such a motivational and inspiring episode. Loved hearing Kevin's take on how to live life.
I remember the first time I had heard about Kevin Smith. A colleague of mine was telling me about this great director and I should see a movie called Mallrats. I took his advice and have been hooked ever since.
One of the greatest writer/directors. He doesn't need massive budgets, doesn't need to hide behind money because his dialogue is so damn good.
You and Kevin on a podcast together? Absolutely beautiful
Micheal, you have done such an incredible job with your show and I'm happy we get a chance to hear you do these fantastic interviews on the regular. Thanks man!
Just found this show recently, he's a good soft interview. Entertaining storytelling style.
As an artist and in particular as a creative creator, Kev steadily does what he loves as the primary. For this plus his modesty & humility cemented my fandom from Clerks and beyond. ✌🙏 Lunchbox!
1:27:40 I love when the dog starts barking. Made my puppy trip out for a bit. Lol
What's crazy is that Lex Luthor leaving Smallville on S7 kinda works SO WELL for both the show and all-that's when the original writers/showrunners, Gough & Miller, left then as well. It was a great transition because the last 3 seasons were also very, very post-Smallville, Metropolis Year One-esque and it just worked as this different shift in tone. BUT I am so glad he came back for the finale, that meant SO MUCH to all of us fans from S1. Smallville remains the best live-action adaptation of Superman to date.
So happy I listened to Michael and Kevin talk. Thankful to be alive. I am watching all these Rosenbaum podcasts by the time I go to the dentist to get abscessed teeth pulled. I am sobering up to bring down my blood pressure and get stronger. Thank you for the entertaining conversations.
Thank you aswell, Ryan.
Rosie, your podcast is golden brother. Keep it up, its amazing how you get the best interviews. Your Lex is still THE best.
ANYONE else watching this more than once. I am trying to make two web series. one based on my first job with friends in mc donalds in 1998, and the other as kids at 8 and 10 years old southpark esk. and this interview with michael and Kevin IS SO SO SO inspiring. it's amazing.
"once you make something you win"
I saw Mallrats first and LOVED IT! Didn’t see Clerks until a few years later and then I was Kevin Smith fan for life.
Love the pod and your humanity, so cool
Great interview, Kevin had a lot to say but kept it interesting. Love the pod Rosey and look forward to the next one.
Great show Michael! Thank you for the terrific and insightful content. Great to hear from another horror nerd like myself!
This is one of my favorites, you guys seemed so naturally in your talking.
Mallrats is a masterpiece!
I really, REALLY love how you just moved Kevin Smiths monologue and made it better. GOOD work, sir.
Just got the recent re-release of Mallrats. Such a fun movie. I'll always be a fan of this guy
thank God Kevin Smith keeps making kevin smith movies!!!!
I’m not sure how I got here, but I’m glad to have found ya, Michael! Thanks for trying to help me keep some of my old normal in the face of the new. Be well.
I started watching a few months ago and I started with the people I knew and liked but now I have subscribed and watch all of them.
This was soooo damn great! Please please do a part II. I could listen to you two shoot the shit for hours!
