My gut is thinking was he offered the part of Walter White? Its around that time 2006 - 2008 (Brotherhood). BB started 2008...guess we'll never know ;)
My favorite are Harry Potter and Peter Pan oh my god he was incredible good as the villain I give him 2 thumbs good work
When Jason Isaacs talks about Sweet November and Harry Potter. I enjoyed hearing him talk about reading the Harry Potter books. I love Sweet November and Harry Potter films.
I particularly enjoyed when he talked about the guy who seemed terrible at "acting" angry and then finding out the guy wasn't acting at all but was in a real argument, and the two polar opposite reviews of the stage play, and coming to the realization that no matter what you do there will often be opposing opinions and it really doesn't mean anything, bad or good. Just be present, do your best work, and move on.
I often struggle with this, and use perfectionism as an excuse to shield myself from committing to completing things (music, album releases in particular) and the potential of failure in others eyes and in my own mind. I put a lot of stuff on my RUclips channel but I "get away with it" because I think, I did this quick and with relatively low effort so if people think it sucks well . . . sure, what did they (or I) expect? It's not like I'm saying it's my best effort! And then if I get 40 thumbs up and one thumbs down, instead of focusing mainly on those 40 "successes" I'll focus more on the single "failure" and wonder what that one person didn't like! 🙄😢
Perfect casting for Lucius Malfoy. And he was amazing as Captain Hook as well.

For me, Jason Isaacs's Hook is one of the all-time great film performances. He brought so much real pathos and complexity and humor to the role.

I've never seen the Harry Potter films but Jason is fantastic in Awake. Such a great show and his performance was so good. Shame it got cancelled after 1 season.

I had the good fortune to be Jason's Stand-in the very recent past, and can without a doubt say that he is one the nicest and most easy going actors I have ever met. He had time for everyone, was a total professional on set, and just an absolute pleasure to work with.
Jason Issacs is a chameleon when it comes to playing different characters. He was great in The Patriot, Star Trek: Discovery season 1, The Green Zone to name a few. When it comes to animation he is brings a certain type of coolness, style with Red Son Superman, The Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels, Sinestro in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

I will never forget the first time I saw Col. Tavington….I am thrilled that he is now in the Star Trek Universe. This was a great interview with a true master.
Finding a partner in life is one of the greatest challenges we face. As a Single person myself I have my hobbies and things I enjoy, work and run a business can be somewhat set in my ways too. But I feel and think that any relationship is worth compromise. I'd love to have someone join me in my hobbies, see what it's like and vice versa. As I would with them too. And maybe together find a hobby to both do and like, make it something. Any relationship is work and both have to be willing.

I have watched many interviews with Jason Isaacs, if not all of them, and everyone of them is like a wonderful MASTERCLASS. He's very generous about sharing his experiences in his career that makes me feel like I should be paying some sort of tuition for every word he utters that sounds like advice without feeling like you're being lectured.

Whenever around and before @44:11 when Jason talks about the value of doing “sh*t” roles along side good roles(those of personal preference), for the pay-- it makes me reflect on one thing: the same way farmers use manure and compost, along with minerals and water(among other nutrients for the soil and plants) to help nurture and cultivate crops, in hopes of a harvest, is in the same vein where we can both use the sh*t jobs as well as the better jobs to cultivate a successful life. It may not be a guarantee, but at least we put things more in our favor when we learn how to use the “sh*t” and seeds(potential/promise/hopes) that we get in life, to always give ourselves a better chance at claiming or rather “harvesting” a successful and satisfying life.

I loved this episode. It could have been much longer. One of my all time favourite films is Sweet November. Every time I see it I laugh and cry so hard as if it was the first time I’ve seen it. I loved both of your roles and especially the scenes with Charlize and Jason. I always wanted to have a friend like him. So cute.
I despised his character in the Patriot which shows how awesome he played him. All in all a wonderful episode. Thanks for that!

I did some sleuthing and Breaking Bad aired right around the time Brotherhood had it's last season. Solid chance that's the role he's talking about missing out on. Also, this interview was fantastic! I meant to watch half then finish the rest later but couldn't stop listening.

@@pipwill74 "The Mentalist" doesn't have shelves full of awards, nor is it acknowledged as one of the best shows of all time, which was how Jason described whatever the show was. So it's unlike to be "The Mentalist" (no shade on "The Mentalist").

Love your podcast and impressions. Please male my day and give me a like! Been a rough six months and your podcasts keep me upbeat on the rough days. If you ever play a college professor, if you haven't already, I think of it as performance art with content material thrown in between narrative. Keeps the students interested. Wild guess on his “amazing offer around the time of the writers strike”. Either (1) Mad Men or (2) Breaking Bad.
Yeah, Walter White was the character that came to mind after he explained the whole thing.
Exactly the same two I immediately pictured lol I had already heard of some other names for BB over the years that were looked at during development, such as John Cusack and Matthew Broderick, but Isaacs wasn't one. Possibly until now.
Although the more I think about it, I'm more inclined to think it was Mad Men. just because, knowing Vince Gilligan's mindset, you know your basic arc is turning the friendly, everyday suburban man into a horrible villain, would you thus have your first idea to be to cast someone who's already primarily known for mostly playing bad guys. I don't know about that.

This has to be one of my favourite Inside of You episodes. Jason is such a brilliant guest, and absolutely lovely to listen to. I've already listened to the audio, but had to come watch the vid too. Ugh, just wonderful.

Jason Isaacs!! what a giant of an actor! wow. One of the best villains in Hollywood history. Remember him in "The Patriot", who could have played a better villain to Mel Gibson then Jason? nobody! People don't realize that strong heroes need equally strong villains to make a good movie. One hallmark of Jason Isaacs performances is that: "he stays in character the entire performance." Often times you catch all actors drop the ball during filming which takes months on end, so they don't always hold their character, and a few scenes here and there, they act out of character. Never happened with Jason, ever! every second of every scene of every movie he ever makes, he is 'on point' he IS that character from beginning to end! my hands off to him, what an underrated character. Funny he is talking to the other most underrated under used actor of Hollywood Michael Rosenbaum. Michael, you should shoot your agent, you gave him a perfect product, he was just mediocre and lousy at selling it.
Can't wait to hear what stories Jason Isaacs will share. Thank you so much for getting him on the podcast Michael. I know this episode will be wonderful as they always are ❤️

Sweet November was ahead of its time...one of my favorite movies, and the scenes with Rosenbaum and Isaacs were definitely some of the best. i would love to see the 20-min short of these two. that would be awesome!!
Admiral Zhao often gets looked over but he was a great antagonist and Jason did a great job with a smug menacing voice.

Again an amazing chat. This was wonderful. Liked Mr Isaacs work for a long time but this chat and all the insight was a new level.
Now that ST:Discovery is ending I reflected on my top reasons why I like the show. Jason Isaacs character and performance are up there for me. He wasn’t the lead character but he was the enigmatic captain and major villain, eventually. I was so devastated when the killed him off, both because we lost the Lorca character *and* Mr Isaacs presence. I would’ve loved to see Prime Lorca, too.
Also: This show is amazing. Michael is amazing. Please never stop doing this format.
This one is definitely in the top five. Jason’s perspective on life is refreshing to say the least.

One of Jason’s most underrated roles was Captain Hook on Peter Pan. I thought he played The part brilliantly. I like that he kind of broke off from Dustin Hoffman‘s comedic Hook to give us a more serious and sinister version of the character. Easily my favorite portrayal of the iconic villain. Amazing interview BTW as always Michael. Smallville is my favorite show and you absolutely KILLED the role of Lex. I hope you can return to it someday.
First of all... love Issaacs... second... he was talking about "What did they do?" and "What did I do?" There's always 2 sides of each arguement... 2 people at fault. So after everything calms down and you're able to see clearly "ok... what can I work on and how can I help my partner work on what they need to work on?" And have a conversation, make up and work together on yourselves to where that arguement doesn't happen again and you can use the fight to grow as a person and grow as a couple. And don't do it negatively, build each other up, don't tear each other down.
Two titan villians of media, gentlemen in real life...was a true pleasure to watch the both you guys..thanks for this

I could listen to the two of you talk for hours. I especially love the impressions and accents.
I didn't know much about this guy, but he had me rolling. Hard to pick just one favorite part of the show. I really liked his outlook on life. And I enjoyed the Sweet November parts. Also the being in the tent on rainy days on Harry Potter, etc.
6:00 - You can wake up you metabolism, even your brain metabolism by short explosive exercices, 5 minutes after you wake up : For exemple 30 or 40 secondes cycling at 100% then 4 minutes rest or more, 3 or 4 times in a row.
After one week on that your mind will be totally vigilante and motivated and you will feel super light a few minutes after you wake up, and without doing any thing, without the coffee, not 1 hour, not 3 hours, only a few minutes ... And this, despite taking medication (and their potential side effects).
You can replace the training bike by super fast push-ups or whatever.
It works for me when I was abulic, apathic and heavy in the morning, around 2005.

one thing about mel gibson is that in the patriot hes really handy with the tomahawk,against the british after his son got killed by tavington/jason in the movie,in the climatic battle thats near the end of the movie mel pins jasons horse with the US flag and comes at jason oure mine,can get a bit bloody but good drama,i think mels character is based on francis marion a guy in south carolina who yoused gurriella style warfare against the british ,he probaly learnt it in the french and indian war in the 1760s
