What an episode this week. Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Bad Blood) joins us to talk about how he’s had to learn to slow down and get back to being himself during points in his life when his career was on the rise and he was focused on pleasing others. Coatesy shares fond memories working with Bruce Willis and Kevin Costner, but also remembers other times on set where he had to stick up for people against difficult, rude talent. We also talk about his special relationship with William Fichtner, how doing a Sons of Anarchy rewatch has made him realize the impact of the show, and what it’s like to work alongside his daughter in the new Neon Lights.

Kim Coates is such a class act! Loved the hell out of this interview. Such a cool dude that has had such a great career all these years. Would be pretty epic to see you both together in a big feature! I hope you have him on again in the future!!
Been a fan of Kim since The Last Boyscout. Never knew it was his first movie, that's crazy. He was brilliant.
He was incredible in Goon. The scene where he's in the bar drunk after a big victory and he's talking to doug (Sean William scott) is comedy gold
"Get your shit together, because your shit stinks Pepe Le Pew"
Have you seen Officer Downe? It's a wild action movie starring Kim Coates. Think Troma with a better budget. Or Maniac Cop if the character was a good guy. Coates gives a gutsy scene chewing performance in an 80s inspired hard R gorefest. I recommend it if that's your kind of movie.
@@rdp16rulez Yeah that movie was so bad it was actually good.
Haha, I still p*ss myself when those two Russians bros tag team their goaltenders hockey mask 😂
KIM IS 64 YEARS OLD??? Damn, would've guessed 50, dude looks great. Been a fan of his since the disney channel original movie classic "Scream Team", but he killed it on SOA.
What a GREAT vibe this entire interview had! Amazing! I still maintain Sons was the greatest drama tv show ever. Smallville and Sons are def two of my all time fav shows ever. Great job Michael 👍👍
Kim Coates is my favourite actor in SOA. What a phenomenal talent!
Kim’s awesome. I had the opportunity to meet him last week at a horror convention and brought up Smallville. He instantly got excited that he did the podcast. Hopefully you can get him on Talkville when that day comes!
I'm really a fan of Kim Coates. I watched Sons from pretty much day 1 and Tig was my favorite. This interview was great and he seems like a really cool guy. I liked how supportive he seemed of his friends and he was interested in Michael's story too.
I haven't been able to watch this on a consistent basis for a bit cause of life and everything. However this is still one of my favorite podcasts to watch when I do get a chance. You're excellent and uplifting as always Rosey! I suffer from severe depression but you always find a way to bring me back up. Also great guest with Kim Coates! Loved him in SOA. Definitely one of my all time favorite actors hands down!
Kim Coates! He is a phenomenal character actor with a great sense of humor. Two great actors sitting down for a lovely little chat. Can't wait!! 💙🎧 Thanks, Rosey!
You are in for a treat. 😊❤️
“Lethal Tender” Kim gave Jeff Fahey a dressing down. I love this actor. High-five Kim!
Lot of podcasts out there and I’ve checked out many of them. This is one of the best.
Rosy, thank you for being. You are not alone. Sorry about your anxiety, we are all here for you and support you. Keep at it. You rule
Man I love this talks . Michael you have a way with people
I didn't realize that was him on Smallville! Absolutely loved him in Sons of Anarchy! Great episode!
Such a fun and candid interview so far. Been a huge fan of this amazingly talented fellow Canadian ever since he first appeared as agent Carter on Smallville. ❤️🇨🇦This is definitely making my long commute a lot more tolerable. Thank you Rosey 🙏🏻❤️. Have a great week everyone!
1000% agree'
@@michelleking8302 I literally can not stop smiling. This is pure joy ❤️❤️❤️
I'm five minutes in and dying 😂😂😂 this is just what the Dr ordered
@@michelleking8302 5000%❤️❤️❤️🤣
I am excited to watch this interview and to learn more about him. Inside of you Tuesday is the best day of the week.
What an absolutely treasure you are Kim Coates, I could listen to you for hours. Canada 🇨🇦 love you. Cheers from Newfoundland
Down with Trudeau too!
It’s great to see Tig Trager doing well after all these years.
I'm literally just jumping on the bandwagon here but I love this man and this interview was brilliant. I'm ashamed to say I never knew his name, but I won't forget it now. He's just made me want to become an actor!
Hi Michael. Just recently found your channel and its an amazing take of what was really happening in that era of television. One thing I never knew at the time and only found out a few years back is that you’ve done a good chunk of voice acting. Is this something you would be willing to share later at some point or share your experiences of this line of work to viewers who want to get into voice acting or just know more? Again, great channel and content, wish I could sub & like multiple times….
Holy crap 19 years ago, 9 days ago woah are you from the past?
This guy is in everything. I don't even remember how many things I saw him.
I remember Kim Coates first when he appeared in season 7 of Smallville. That was a memorable role. He also appeared in Prison Break season 2 where he played Fichtner's character's boss or something and it was great.
"I think we all had a bit of crank in us." has some heavy implications especially for a show about biker gangs lol.
This week’s episode is delightful. Kim definitely opens up and he has so many great stories. He has played so many great roles. Y’all definitely need to do a project together.
The was awesome! Loved it. Great job Michael.
What a raconteur Kim is! Loved his "Last Boy Scout" story. Great guest!
This was by far the best one yet. Loved listening to this.
He is one of my all time favourite actors. This is a great interview he seems like a really nice guy. It's funny when he talks about Stratford I'm from there. It would have been cool to see him here back then.
I smiled through this whole episode really made my day Thanks
...Michael... Michael... ...Michael. Lol. Kim seems like a cool, chill dude. Great interview
I miss reaper reviews. That shit helped get me through boring ass covid. I remember the day I found it when I was dove hunting in alabama. All by myself out in the woods sitting on an open field with their podcast playing. Good times
They really missed an opportunity to have Kim Coates play Jack Sparrows older brother hahahah
Kim was born to play Tig! He’s my favorite character in Sons! Such an amazing and most of all unique actor!
So cool he mentioned Poughkeepsie!
Oh The Last Boy Scout with Coates getting punched by Willis' character was hilarious.
Great episode!!!
Shame he didn't mention one of his best performances: The Client (1994).
Another good interview which I enjoyed. Kim has lots of good stories and I liked how he took an interest in you also and was very complimentary. He comes across as a kind and conscientious man.
It was also nice to see you more brighter, Michael. Hopefully you will be fully out of that fog soon 🙂
I love his Irish slimy guy character in Waterworld
Justified was better than Sons...just my opinion.
How in the hell is Kim in his 60s?! He looks amazing and he's so sweet!
Another great Canadian lad!
I remember kim was 1 of the guys who tried to car jack smith and lawerance in the 1st bad boys movie.
First saw him in the “Last Boy Scout”. He was amazing in that film. Small role, but he nailed it. Great actor.
In Black Hawk Down, he played a great Delta Fotce operator.
Great interview, loved the Clint Eastwood impersonation
Oh my gosh Michael you didn’t Coates!! He not only gorgeous He Is a Phenomenal actor. I have seen almost all his films and Tv shows that he’s been in. Love his work🥰 Another awesome episode you Rock!!!
This was a fun one.
the great part about this is, Kim was not just the guest.. he was just as invested in Michael. Bouncing back the questions to him.
Love Kim Coates..1 of my favorite actors..he was my favorite character on Sons Of Anarchy..great talent
This guy has been in so many films I love and he was great in them all.
He was awesome as “Chet” in The Last Boyscout.
Kim's talkng about Jeff Fahey
42:23
Kim Coates s the man! Oh, also Michael, Brick was an amazing movie btw ;)
Jeff Fahey was the lead actor I believe Kim threatened to knockout. 🥊 🥊
Movie Title: Lethal Tender.
Carrie Anne Moss, Gary Busey
God I miss sons…..and I just saw The Last Boy Scout it’s great
So excited for the SOA podcast!!
Grew up with waterworld, but looked up his name after SOA. One of the best characters ever
pay purrrrr
Thanks for another wonderful Tuesday, Rosey! 🌹 Appreciate and love you and your podcast. Helps me each week. Can’t wait to dive into this one.. Kim
Coates is amazing! Loved Tig so much in SoA!
🤣 Loved your Clint Eastwood interpretation 😆
Michael - you are a fantastic interviewer! Big fan of your podcast.
Great stuff 🤛
They SHOULD have pick THIS guy to be the Joker instead of Jared
Rosie! Dear Rosie! I was listening to Sunspin and thought of the album Steve Burns (of Blue's Clues) put out called "Songs for Dustmites." Have you heard it?
It got me to thinking, if he's game, Steve would be an amazing guest on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. Careers, music, outlooks... Please have your people call his people. 🙂
1:05:40 - Kim Coates laughing out loud and saying "F**k Skinwalkers" was the best part of the whole pod.
It sounds like that trash movie actually had potential and I wish that the R rated version existed to see what could've been done.
Kim Coates...another Canadian gem...this is awesome..thanks Micheal for this..💯..you to Kim thanks for been one of my favs of all time...and I bet he's talking bout Gary Busey when he speaks of the actor he was going punch out..🤣or could be jeef Farley..loved Kim in goon!
Dang it was over too soon at the end I just kept going c'mon man give me another half an hour half an hour half an hour
I guess he's talking about Lethal Tender (1996) at 42:42? Was Jeff Fahey the jerk?
42:22 I think he's talking about Jeff Fahey which is new to me. I always loved his acting. Never heard much about his real personality.
I'd put my money on Gary Busey
I think he's talking about Gary Busey
I really like Kim as the hockey 🏒 coach in Goon.
This was great 👌 Michael keep up the good work and hope you get better soon 💪😊❤️ Aaron Oakes from Newcastle upon Tyne United Kingdom
7:25 Does he realize what he just called himself?
I just watched this and have been scrolling for like three minutes to see if anyone was gonna say something. Funny Clint Eastwood comes up considering Gran Torino
I could not hang out with Kim Coates because he would have me laughing the whole time. This dude seems so awesome
I love Kim Coates, very nice and open minded to his fans❤
A wonderful man😘
we need tommy ,coates and boone together.....please
42:43 It's either Gary Busey or Jeff Fahey he is talking about, in Lethal Tender with Carrie Anne Moss.
I'd assume Its Gary, because he said he is better now, but back then he was a dick, and that would make sense because Gary was a big star then and fits the topic, and he has also cleaned up his act as of late. Tbh not to familiar with Jeff Fahey but maybe it could be him, who knows.
Gary also has a major head injury
I love Sons of Anarchy however we will not talk about the last episode which is the worst in TV history and yes I saw the final season of Games Of Thrones.
SOA the most popular show ever!
Kim Coates this guy is so sweet.I love im so much.A real actor and and the sweetes guys ever. What you want more :) .Thumbs up...
James gun. Said you were the best lex ever .... he also said you complained a lot about shaving your head . Context Mr. Gun ! Michael did twenty six episodes a year for years ! Not six months on a movie .!!! His patience and dedication brought the VERY BEST LEX .
Not some jessy lame ass . Kevin spacey both were an insult in those parts . Praise Michael Rosenbaum. 😊
Hey buddy, thanks for a great podcast, i found tis becaus of kim, and i have alot of respect for you on having great context. And for sticking up for people. I fckn love kim koates. He is such a great guy and a Great actor. Mad love and respect for him and you.
Thank you my friend. Good luck and be safe.👍✌️🤘☠️
"It just changed everything. It showed me that not being me is the way to go."
A quote for the ages. lol
I fucking love Kim in Last Boy Scout. What an absolutely amazing guy. Thank you for all of these interviews with my heroes and getting their real personalities. Amazing Michael !
I fckn love kim, he is the coolest guy i have ever saw and met at comicon , i have mad love and respect for him no one else could have played tigg, and the man he is. Thank you kim from my heart.
A real stand up Man!!! 👍✌️🤘. Also, thank you for a GREAT pod cast , much respect!! Great work!!
Another great interview, Kim Costes is awesome
The actor that Kim said acted like a total asshole- was it Gary Busey or Jeff Fahey? The film appears to be "Lethal Tender" from 1996.
I was so pissed off when Kim and Theo put the Reaper Review podcast behind a paywall. I lost all respect for both of them.
Charley: You the one killed our friend?
Butler: That's right. I shot the boy, too. And I enjoyed it.
Kim Coates at his most despicable!
Tig was a great character, i disliked tig up until he told Opie and going from hating and not respecting Jax to loving him and become so loyal yo him was awesome
I've never spoken to Mr. Coates or Mr. Fitchner, but I've seen them so many times at... I probably shouldn't say what bar, but it's been my favourite bar in Buffalo since Billy'O's Golden Swan closed (that was the Canisius HS bar, back when I was in highschool). It's on Virginia, and it's not fat bobs. Seeing the two of them be besties at my favourite bar, was really cool. But it also made me appreciate just how good the makeup department is. On screen, they lool like the mgm lion. In person, they look like real lions, and it ain't pretty, but it's real, and I would love to see that on the screen. Will Fitchner and Kim Coates just going out for a drink, make a movie out of that.
Seriously, the two of them having a night out on the town in Buffalo, could actually be a great movie.
Work in movies (almost 20 years now) there is fun on set? I always find it hilarious the different outlooks you get from actors and crew about set and industry.
Kim Coates is awesome. That Canadian charm.
Hey Michael, I think you look like the RUclipsr of Omar gosh tv channel - check out his channel - you guy look like twins
Sons got me hooked from the first episode to the very last. Amazing series and sad it ended but better to end at the high.
It was actually through Mayans MC that i discovered SOA. Id never seen it.
so the dude who was being an asshole was either jeff fahey or gary busey? if its jeff that'd be heartbreaking, cause i always thought he had like a renowned nice dude reputation?
Great Interview! Would Love to see Kim come back maybe if you he has a future project to promote.
This guy seems like a good dude but you could play a drinking game for how many times he refers to himself in the third person.
I'm gonna say it was Jeff Fahey that Kim had to have words with. lol
I did see couple of episodes of Sons of Anarchy and saw it as Shakespeare's retelling of Hamlet.
That's what the creator of the show was going for he also appears on the show
Love Kim. I’d love to have a drink and chat with him.
