Thanks so much, this video helped me to change a dead battery!!! My S&G D-lock is an older model dating back 2015 and there a slight difference in how you access the battery. The little black tab is in fact a cap which comes off to expose a gray tab underneath. The gray tab needs to be pulled out ( I found it easiest to use a pair of needle nosed pliers to gently grip the tab) and then one may turn the outer black ring counter-clockwise to expose the battery.
Thank you for the video, which is very helpful. I have a Chubb safe with a Sargent & Greenleaf Direct Drive Electronic Lock which looks exactly like this. The safe is around 20 years old, and until around 8 months ago, the batteries used to last for many years. But, in the past few months, I have had to change the alkaline batteries every month. Would you know why that is so? Oh, by the way, I gain access to the battery compartment by removing a Philips head screw which is mounted under the SG sign.
6 years later. Still useful. Thanks!
Thanks! I was nervous about doing this without a video. Great job.
Thank you! This was way more helpful than Gardall’s customer service - they gave me incorrect information.
This video was THE BEST one I found to help me replace my Liberty Safe S&G lock battery. Thank you!!!
I am glad it was useful NorthwoodsShooter

You are welcome.
How do you know when to replace the battery or when is it getting low?
When the lock won’t beep or won’t lock.
Thanks!
Will it remember the code or do I need to reinstall the code? Great video. Thank you!!
Good question Tim. It will remember the code.
