  • In this auto experience installment, we review a very rare Hemi...the 2006 Magnum SRT8. In the mid-2000s the SRT8s were a big deal in the muscle car horsepower wars. But is the once lofty 425 hp output enough to still make this mean wagon a badass? Tune in to find out. #dodgemagnum #srt8 #carreview

      That's what I have 2005 RT Magnum, looks like new , no issues, never has had issues. Might have to sell it though as it sucks on snow lol. All that power with RWD yeah , but thats where I live now. I'm hesitant because I feel the value will go up. I havent seen one in my area as in good condition as mine. Mine is also customized. Paint, rims etc

      Junkyard Dave did just that, took a wrecked ScatPack drivetrain and interior, basically took a red Magnum to the shell, and installed every single thing from the Scat Pack he could. The build itself is very interesting.

    My dad bought almost this exact magnum new back then. When I got my learners permit he taught me how to drive in this SRT8. I felt like a badass and king of the road behind the wheel xD. Years later it had to be sold to pay for unexpected medical costs. Thus it was sold at a used car place, then bought then shipped to the lower 48. I am now 28 and hearing this exhaust note again made me tear up just a bit. If I could ever find my dad's old SRT8 Magnum again I will buy it and give it back to its original owner.

    I currently own a silver 2006 Magnum SRT8 that’s mildly modified as a daily driver, only thing left to do is 426 stroker, heads, cam and headers. Just installed a Southern Hotrod trans with modified valve body and 3200 converter, 1 piece DSS driveshaft, cars immaculate with 143k on ODO, and there’s no amount of money I’d take for it. Whole suspension is polyurethane down to body mounts. I even installed paddle shifters and a CarPlay stereo, love my baby lol

    Magnum seems like a great daily, maybe throw in a mild cam and you got a big comfortable cruiser, that can still keep up with v8 stang/camaro yet is still pretty practical with the hatch, man such an interesting car. I bet that thing has way more space then most small SUVs and way more comfortable plus its got a hemi.

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  2 года назад +2

      Yes sir, all of this is true. It’s pretty competitive right out of the box. Modded ones get fast real quick. It’s actually pretty comfy as a daily and can haul a ton of gear.

      @@autoobsessivegarage do you think it would make more sense to go an R/T Mag and mod it or just go for the SRT out of the box beside the engine what else does the SRT have? Im assuming better suspension and breaks etc ?

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  2 года назад +1

      @@timtresch4848 That's a tough one. The SRT8 does come with a different suspension and sway bar setup, Brembo brakes, maybe diff and gearbox as well. That being said, they are somewhat hard to find and command a premium price. I'd say go for the SRT8, but a modded R/T can get pretty fast as well.

    I love my Magnum. I "only" have the AWD SXT with the 3.5l v6, but its a sweet cruiser. Kind of a boat. Actually not even kind of, it is a real land yacht in the tradition of old 70s and 80s boats. Not taking any hairpins in this baby that's for sure, and I even have SRT8 sway bars, brakes and more on mine. I bought a wrecked/totaled SRT8 a few years ago and cannibalized everything I could from it. Sold the engine and made a profit. The AWD is nice, it's surprisingly competent in poor road conditions, especially if you're used to driving a RWD Charger RT or SRT8 which are notoriously squirrely. The Magnum is very practical and not too bad on gas mileage considering how much it weighs ( gets 17/24). Honestly it feels like a low slung SUV without the ground clearance of an SUV. Good aftermarket too considering how many parts it shares with the Charger and other Chrysler products of the era.

    I have a 2007 in Bright Silver, fully loaded, 1 of 23 built that year, only 46k miles on it. Owner experience has been great until the evaporator starting leaking last month then you discover the dark side of Chrysler engineering. A complete tear down and removal of the instrument panel and dash pad is required, and removing the seats and steering column is also recommended to make things easier. Not a job for the faint of heart, you need a few days and lots of patience or very deep pockets and a trusted mechanic. The usual fight with stuck heater hoses, plastic retainers that break and one retainer nut that requires removal of the cabin filter box, wipers and cowl panel! By comparison my Acura RL was half a day from start to finish.

    Chrysler make poor quality cars. With that said, I still must say that I can't help but love the design of the Dodge brand. And the Dodge Magnum is one of those cars that even if you know it is not a wice choise of a evrey day car, it is still a darn GREAT looking car and the power it has is so tempting.

    Dodge hit on a winner with the Magnum, built on the Mercedes platform with short front and rear overhang and aggressive styling, it was perfect for a hubby still trying to look cool, but needing space and 4 doors for momma's shopping and soccer practice. The Magnum was a casualty of the Mercedes-Chrysler divorce and was cancelled in 2008. Probably due to the propriety use of the Mercedes platform and other planning issues, as SUV's and trucks are the big profit makers for Chrysler. There are a bunch of guys out there modifying Magnums with Charger front ends etc., dreaming that Dodge will re-introduce it, but that will never happen, so if you can find one of those SRT AWD models, grab it and hang on, it will be a collector item in a few decades.

    I'm glad you think it looks cool bud, but let's all be real. The car's style is a cacophony of backwards boomer stereotypes of masculinity. It desperately grasps at performance in the way some 54 year old slob asks for the poor college girl behind the bar at Twin Peaks for her number. Dodge, like him, doesn't really care if it lands; it only takes one to say yes. The only reason I could drive one of these now is that its so comical as to be ironic.

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  2 года назад +5

      My man, let’s get really real. You laugh mockingly at Mr. Gropey McGroperson as he lays down a sweet rubber patch while leaving the car show as you stroke your ironic hipster beard too enthusiastically…causing a few errant drops from your soy mocha latte to stain the upholstery of your JDM van.
      The Magnun SRT-8 is cool because it’s a wagon with a big ole slab of murican thunder under the hood.
      PS: Loved the Twin Peaks inclusion.
