I love your comment ‘High mileage = experienced’. I must remember that. I also have a silver 2006 Cayman S, and love the way it makes me feel every time I drive it. Great video.
Hahahaha it’s a more positive vibe for the older mileage cars out there. It really is a hell of a great driver’s car.
Not budget for much longer, the 987.1 is creeping up behind the vast appreciation of the 911 models in the current market. Nice examples of 987.1 models with lower mileage (20-40k miles) are starting to sell for 40-45k. The .2 with good mileage is creeping up around 52-60k. Great cars when sorted with proper aftermarket oiling upgrades and taken care of. The smaller size, timeless classic lines, and analog nature of these 987 models, is very appealing in a modern, sterile and overly digitized modern car market.
Agreed on all points. I love that these are not appreciating in value to be in lockstep with all other used car prices rising, but rather due to getting the recognition they deserve.
I would target a higher mileage .1 S that's been taken care of.. Low miles on the .1's could lead to IMS issues if the car wasn't really driven.. If it's been a garage queen and then you get it and track it, the IMS could let go.. I got a PCA member owned 07 CS with 78k miles on it and 8 years of service history for $30k in June.. Car has been fantastic.. i've done one oil change and a track day (completely stock) and it was a blast..
These, and any other desirable enthusiast car, will only go up in value the closer the 'all new cars must be EV' mandate comes out..
Yep-just bought a 2008 in October with 44k miles on it. Well maintained but low to mid $40's is where price is currently, and seems to be rising due in part to videos like this one. Very glad i bought it!!!
Had one for 4 years now, I love it!
It never stops being fun!
I have a low millage one and it's fantastic! No issues at all. Love it. Best decision I ever made. Driven religiously about once a week. IF....IF the engine grenades, I'll park it up and spec out a 997 Turbo engine swap ;)
Yup they love getting some exercise. And that is one positive way of looking at engine failure haha.
Watching from the UK, so eager to buy a Cayman S... they’re just something else
Right on, cheers man. Some day you will certainly make it happen. Get the options you want for sure.
I have this same car, same color, everyone admires it and I love it! It really responds and looks beautiful.
This design will endure forever. Modern yet classic Porsche at the same time.
Thanks for making me feel good about my purchase. Mine is a cocoa-interior+sports_seats+sport_chrono spec too, haven't seen another one like it until your video.
Seriously one of my favorite interior options in any vehicle…and you should feel very good about that purchase.
Now go hit some fun roads with it.
Great review! - Lots of info, but entertaining, too. And you convey what I most love about mine - It's just so much fun to drive!
Thank you very much. It’s such an incredibly fun car to drive.
Bought mine eight years ago and it has been flawless...👍
Without a doubt will be for many years to come as well.
Love the Caymans, they are a drivers car, not for posers
You know when you meet a cayman driver that they appreciate handling physics over everything else
Absolutely true. Cayman owners aren’t there for the badge recognition, they are there because it’s an exceptionally great driver’s car.
I have that same car! It's truly amazing
It truly is fantastic and never disappoints.
Same car too! However soul exhaust and headers, pcs intake and tuned. Fantastic car
@@joek1302 mine is pretty much stock, added side and front vent guards.
Love mine! I want your cocoa interior and sport chrono though haha
Heck yeah! The cocoa interior is one of my favorite options. These things are so fantastic.
I love my 2006 S Dark Grey/Red interior
Such a beauty & always fun to drive 😎
I love the contrast of a more subtle exterior and exciting interior. Honestly one if the more fun cars to drive out there.
Once I got to drive my brother's pristine 89 Taurus SHO and my buddy's 06 Cayman S back-to-back in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. Both have very special engines, the Cayman has a buttery smooth shifter, and the Taurus is really easy to enjoy at speed since the powerful seat bolsters allow you to concentrate on what you're doing. Both cars are a hell of a lot of fun.
Such very different machines, but both are so enjoyable. I love how every car can deliver such a unique experience. These two are especially fantastic.
Nice content. The Boxter and cayman with 3.4 engine is the same engine used in 996 911 platform but in a true sports car ie 2 seat mid engine configuration. The 911 is more a GT grand tourer.
Agreed on that.
And thank you.
Inciteful as always Chad, thumbs up
Thank you sir.
I didn't know Ryan Gosling reviews cars.
Desperate times call for desperate measures haha.
Great looking car! Looks fun to drive.
Thank you and I can certainly confirm that it is quite fun to drive.
Idk why folks are so scared of some extra miles on a car..... im 38 I have owned a ton a vehicles and I have never had anything with less than a 100k on it. Heck 2 of my trucks in my driveway right now both have over 200k and the f150 is knocking on the 300k mark. I also have 2 bmws one with 150k and the n54 I own has bout 125k. You can get a great deal and experience some really cool cars at an affordable price going that route. Like the video bro! 💯💯💯
Thanks man and I'm in the same camp. I'd take a "well seasoned" example vs. a garage queen any day of the week. Plus...cars are for driving. Right?
@@autoobsessivegarage a car is a car...its a mean of transportation...point a to point b. But a true luxury or sports car...well thats an experience....its a thrill its meant to ignite the senses ....it should be fun and engaging..... and you can always tell when you find that particular car....because it is the one you stare at as you walk away from it........that...... thats the ultimate driving experience! 💯
That was my first car. I was the cool guy in high school.
Absolutely epic first car. Talk about setting the bar high.
Mines is the perfect road for the Cayman!
Everything about this statement is very true.
drop it one inch add a techart arrow kit 2 and your good to go it will look better oh yeah don't mess with the spoiler. i bought mine in 06 and have it still
if interested you can have a tpc turbo installed that will produce 600hp as for me im leaving mine stock
I’m sure that setup is a blast, but keeping it stock or near stock is the plan.
The IMS is really not an issue with M97 engine. Bore scoring is a different story...
Agreed that the IMS issue is not a frequent concern, but rather a severe one if it does occur.
Isso não é um carro, é um brinquedo de adulto.
A pilotagem é fantástica, ainda mais, com um câmbio manual.
Fantástico!
Good review. Have you experienced any Porsche brake squeal?
Thank you sir and no I have not.
the full natural leather interior option is unfortunately not often specified. it's a pity in that the option makes the cayman's "OK" interior something special.
Agreed that the Cayman interior is not exactly opulent, but I do find that it accurately reflect the more focused less frilly nature of the Cayman as a sports car. The full leather just notches the interior up that a fair amount more.
I would like to drive one
You absolutely should if you get the choice, they are fantastic machines.
Would you consider putting an LSD in this? Nice car I am hopefully getting mine tomorrow. 1 owner 160k miles
For street use, I personally wouldn’t, as the handling is solid enough even when pushed. For track duty, I’m sure it would payoff.
IMS bearing? Probably not on a 987 (not impossible, but doesn't seem to happen much). Bore scoring, on the other hand...
Definitely not impossible. IMS bearing is a more immediate pain…while bore scoring (though more common) is often a slower burn.
@@autoobsessivegarage Fair enough. And yes, mine is currently slowly burning. I'd still buy it again and I thought it was a great video.
What's maintainance like? Is it bad?
Not that bad at all. The engine is fairly accessible. I’d rather do spark plus on this flat six than a Subaru flat four.
0-60 ahould be around 5
For sure…with perfect environmental conditions, a prepped surface, and 100k fewer miles…and a better driver haha.
32k now 💀
Great car. Shifty video with bad info. Base model is more fun to wring out on public roads.
