    We are older and we were told about the Alltrails app by a high schooler hiking with his mother - when we asked her the way back to the car when we we got a bit lost. He was looking at his phone while giving us directions so we asked him what app he was using! We have used it almost daily, especially since COVID for our daily short, socially-distanced hikes on Massachusetts trails.

    Thanks! This was very useful; I learned a lot about this app from your video. (Why the hell doesn't the app come with instructions??) HOWEVER, you didn't answer the main question that I had, which is how to record and SAVE a trail that does not correspond to any previously established trail. Today I skied some miles on a frozen lake and I know I recorded my track because I saw it on the phone. However, it seems to have vanished, much to my chagrin. Is there a point at which I should have somehow saved the recording?

AllTrails does not have a voice capability with off-route notifications. However, you will hear a sound or a buzz when you go off trail depending on your cell phone settings.

    Can record a route from point A to B so that I can use the same route to return from B to A?

    • @TrekkingPals
      @TrekkingPals  4 года назад +2

      What you want to do is download the map through the app and then just make sure your GPS is turned on during the hike (downloading the map will require the Pro version of AllTrails). You don't have to do a recording in order to have the location services provided to you from the App. If you're recording, the app will give you a red line that indicates where you've come from and you should be able to navigate back to 'B' just fine with that line.

      At this point, the app does not have a voice capability to tell you when to turn right and when to turn left. When you get to the trailhead, you want to keep an eye on your phone to make sure you are on the right path. If you go off-route, a notification will show up on your screen and you will hear a sound or a buzz (depending on your cell phone settings) you might not hear this buzz if the phone is muted. Will All Trails show your location on the map when out of cell phone range (Satellite). Will it drop breadcrumbs?

    • @TrekkingPals
      @TrekkingPals  4 года назад

      Harvey Freed It will show up if you have your location on and the pro version of the app. If the area you are hiking in is not mapped out on the GPS (meaning that no satellite ever collected data about this location) then it will not. Most of wilderness designated areas, National forests and national parks in the USA at least are mapped out.

      I am not very well informed about fishing but I read about Fishbrain. We are going for a fishing charter in the next few days. I will ask our guide and get some information for you.

      @@TrekkingPals thanks ill try that one out,im trying out fishangler atm,just grabbed my licence yesterday (ik alittle late in the year though unfortunately,i live in MA and dont care for ice fishing much haha) But i love bass fishing and mostly use spinner baits, I have my hot spots and such over the years but trying to venture out abit more from my comfort zone so i figured some of these apps they make now would help out in finding more places.again thanks for response.

    I paid 29.99 for this app thinking I was going to be able to download a map and then I would be pointed in the wrong direction. I got to the trail and the little green dot (me) didn't move anywhere as I walked. I was so confused. Can someone please tell me what I did wrong? I downloaded the map before getting to the trail and losing signal

      Celula Boom Did you check if your location was enabled for this specific App? That can be the cause of your issue. If your location was enabled for the app, I suggest you reach out to support@alltrails.com with a description of your issue and they’ll have someone reach out to you.

    How I can remove the download maps?

    • @TrekkingPals
      @TrekkingPals  4 года назад

      Derby Winner from your mobile phone, go to Plan (The ❤️ icon) click there, choose the map you want to delete, click it then go to the three dots (top right of the screen) click there then choose “Delete” and you should be good.
