    Great Info mate, Unfortunately For me, 97 Percent Of The Places I Hike I Have No Phone Signal At All. Freaks My Wife Out Because For # Hours She Has No Contact With Me While I Am Out Hiking, So I Always Tell Her Where I Will Be And How Long I Will Be Out There, So If I Don't Come Back In That Time Frame Than She Worries.

      Same for me Bat.... I've got no phone signal on my trails either, but my phone gps still works on those locations usually so I can see my trail at least.

    Queensland globe is awesome I've been using it for the last couple of years but not as in-depth as you've down. Peakery is very similar to Queensland Globe as well.

    Another good option is strava's heatmaps which can reveal paths others have made and I use osmand+ as my map app of choice. Lots of customisation options though not as user friendly as some of the others out there. Thanks for the lidar tip to both you and Matt!

    I was going to ask you how do you access the lidar imagery, so now I don't have to! You don't know gow to get lidar imagery for other states do you?

    • @jelbuilderfilms
      @jelbuilderfilms  Год назад +1

      I'd suggest that other states might have similar or equivalent geo platforms, but I can't confirm this. I've got enough terrain to explore in QLD😂

    We also had some trouble with the Gaia app.. for the most part it was good- my sis had maps that she uploaded into Gaia and it took us to the cliff dwellings we were hiking to. On one hike tho we just couldn’t find where we needed to go. Another time the app showed the destination and it showed the arrow that was us, but it just kept turning and changing and we never got any closer to our goal point. That was weird and frustrating.

    • @jelbuilderfilms
      @jelbuilderfilms  Год назад +1

      Hmm, that's a shame because Gaia works great for me and how I use it in this video. Hope you find another app the works well for you. Thanks for watching.

    I knew about QLD Globe but had no idea you could get LiDAR type imagery. I've been playing with it to hunt for an old track up in Far North Queensland. However, some areas don't have the detail that populated places have. Places like the Cooktown area are quite detailed, but once you get away from the towns, the detail drops.
    The track I'm hunting is the old walking trail from Cape Tribulation to Wujal Wujal/Bloomfield that ran from the North end of Cape Trib beach. The 'Bloomfield Track' follows some of the old trail, but the trail also covers some country where the road couldn't be dozed safely. Interestingly, the original trail was used by the locals to travel between tribal areas. Then, sometime in the 60s, a track was bulldozed through with a D6 dozer with the idea to push cattle through to Daintree where they could be loaded for shipment to Cairns.
    Anyway, I've downloaded all of these apps and will play with them. They'll be invaluable for when I get on the road again.

    Hmm my comment disappeared. John I use on the go maps, for planning and checking Vert and distances etc. I am mostly now using Avenza maps, Rob parsons got me onto it and he uses it on his Tassie treks. The maps are pretty much always free to download unless you want a special map etc like hema . I use this mostly at the moment in the four wheel drive as I’m injured. I’ve tried many mapping apps over the years, sometimes I use my watches app as well and use the heat maps. All trails is rubbish and I stopped uploading to them years ago

    • @jelbuilderfilms

      That's strange, Im not sure about any previous comment... unless a profanity was used as I've got this auto restricted for comments. Thanks for putting up what works for you, I'll check those out too. Yes, AllTrails is garbage.
